Personal Statement: I Want To Be In National Honor Society

I believe I should be inducted into the National Honor Society because I obtain admirable social and work skills, which include my strong ability to interact and understand others and my perseverance towards my goals. Opening yourself up to strangers or being open to getting on different levels of understanding with different types of people can be difficult for some, however, it has always been my forte. I began my high school academic career at Burrell. The transition from Mary Queen of Apostles School to Burrell High School was a traumatic adjustment to the quantity of my classmates. I may not be the best candidate for the next member of the National Junior Honor Society, but I certainly believe I could be a great addition! Overall, I am a great learner, leader and student. I have not had any major discipline problems since kindergarten! I have always had top grades and have been top of my class at some point or another. I have good grades that I always maintain and standards that I never lower. My character is not the best but it certainly isn’t the worst. I try to help out in my school or community when possible but regrettably I have not given much of my time to my school or community. At the end of the day, I am a good student, friend, son and brother.

I am very honored to be considered for the National Honor Society. I feel I would be a valuable member to the society, because I exceed the academic expectations. Also I give my best in everything I do, and I am very willing, and excited to volunteer more.

I believe i should be in National Junior honor society because i work hard to keep my grades up, I take responsibility for my actions, I join in on school events like the dances and make sure i'm polite to my peers. I show leadership when the teacher leaves the room and i decide not to mess around, listening to the teacher in class and showing up to school with a positive attitude. When i show up to school with a positive attitude i smile say good morning and i’m ready to learn.

I believe that I would be a good representative for the National Junior Honor Society because I represent the five qualities of a member of the organization: scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. I have leadership skills from programs like Girl Scouts, softball, and Student Council. I’ve volunteered in many service projects including Christmas bags for foster children, playing piano at a hospice center, volunteering at a food bank, teaching brownies (2nd to 3rd graders) how to camp at a Girl Scout camp, passing out flowers to rooms in a hospice center, and passing out care packages to the homeless. It is an honor to be considered for membership for the National Honor Society. The service that I have done throughout my high school career will benefit me later in life. If I get accepted I will do more service with the school, classmates, and community. So far, I have joined Band and am part of the News Crew.

As a freshman at the University of Maryland, I am pursuing a Masters degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Cyber Security. I formerly attended the Academy of Health Sciences at Prince George’s Community College, a dual enrollment program in which I graduated with my High school diploma and an Associates of Arts degree in General Studies. Having a unique experience by attending these different school has allowed me to become familiar with technical communication in a multitude of ways, whether it is in the work place or school related. Being vice president of the national honor society, being a barista at Peet’s coffee shop, and with being fluent in multiple languages I have used technical communication to encourage people to “take action” in a multitude of ways. Whether it was influencing people to join the national honors society or trying to get customers to buy a new coffee drink, I have consistently been able to encourage others to “take action” with whatever it may be. Over time I have learned the do’s and don’ts of being a technical communicator, and I now understand what must be done to accomplish a task through technical communication.

I feel greatly honored to be considered to be a part of National Honor Society. Being a part of NHS will help me grow as a leader and as an overall person. As H. Jackson Brown Jr. once said “The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today”. I try to live by this quote by doing everything in my power to shape my future to be successful, and joyous. This mean getting involved in my community, staying active, joining a handful of clubs, and striving for high academic achievements.

Overall, I am a devoted and well-rounded student, making me a perfect candidate for National Honor Society. Not only do I posses the four tenets, character, scholarship, leadership and service, but I am also constantly working harder and striving to be better in all four regions. National Honor Society will help me reach my goal in becoming a better student and person. In addition, being a member of National Honor Society will allow me to be an example for other students, just like the members had been for me. In conclusion, I should be a member of National Honor Society because I demonstrate excellence in all four tenets of National Honor Society.

National Honor Society is a huge honor to be on and there are many reasons why I think I should be picked. First off, I have always done my best in school and my grades are very important in my family. My mom is from a small town that has very low income and, my parents have always done their best to give me everything that they can. The National Honors Society allows students to be build and create traits that are essential in a successful adult. I truly believe that hold many of these traits and joining the National Honor Society will grant me the opportunity to expand on these traits and grow as a person. Thus far I have focus greatly on the scholarship aspect of NHS and have been dedicated to my academics. I have held my GPA above 4.0 and have always been devoted to maintaining that high level of academic success. I believe the most important requirement for gaining membership at National Honor Society would be a student’s personality and character. First of all, I learned to maintain a positive attitude even after my failures. I came to the United States as a freshman in 2010. At that time, I really had hard time learning English and I didn’t do well on my exams. But I didn’t give up easily. Instead, I put more efforts on my weakness and I overcame the difficulty I had. Secondly, I learned how to take care of myself and how to initiate new relationship with others, as well as how to adjust myself in new environments. That is why I make a lot of friends in my community. I am also an enthusiastic person who would like to help and motive other students. I think I can be a good role model for other younger students.

It is an honor to be chosen as a candidate for membership in the National Honor Society. Academics, leadership skills, service abilities, and character are four principal parts of a superior student. I believe that I am inclusive of all these aspects needed to become a part of this prestigious group. Becoming a member of this organization is important to me, because it will help me get into an excellent college and push me to work harder in school.
