I have not taken the ACTs yet, but I plan to take it later this fall. Last spring I meant to take it but tended to postpone registering for the exam. I plan to take it on October 23rd this year. Even though I have not taken the ACTs yet, I have taken the SAT. Though I don't remember my exact score in the reading department, I remember it was mediocre. I hope that I can train myself in the english and writing department so I am able to score well on the ACTs. While writing, I personally am inclined to show a superior style when I write. As I submerge myself into my writing I channel my flow of my inner thoughts into a style of writing appropriate for the piece. I can convey my sense of character as I compose my work. As a very opinionated person I also exceed in developing my position. I credit myself the trait of a very reflective mind. As I consider my position, I am able to filter my thoughts to construct a better understanding of my topic. Additionally, I also excel at applying word choice. I can use an array of vocabulary words that enhance the quality of my paper. When writing, I endeavor to keep my sentences full of variety and not exhaust my phrase and sentence structure. …show more content…
I strain to focus on my topic and typically one paragraph ceases to early to be considered sufficient. My mind wanders in scores of directions and hinders my level of ability. Because of my lack of focus, I distress over my organization skills. Since my mind wanders in so many directions, a thought for one section will maneuver its way to the forefront of my brain before I am to that section or after I have finished. Punctuation is confusing to me and I am never sure if I'm using it in the correct manner. Comma usage baffles me as I try to insert it between the correct lines. Frequently, I am inclined to reject it in positions it
How can I become a better writer? Throughout my writing experiences, I have learned I have many weaknesses along with strengths. My experiences with writing has not always been the best, but over time, with lots of practice and instructions from my instructors, I can proudly say that I have gained a better understanding on the layout of essays and papers. As well as understanding how to write correctly my goal as a writer is to learn how to overcome my weaknesses and use my strengths to my highest ability. I have many strengths, weaknesses and goals that I plan to achieve and overcome in my college career.
Al, Alde, de, shon, deshon, and Al’Deshon my name takes on many forms. Kind of like my writing in a sense. I have never been a strong writing also being the reason, I took this class first semester I think. If I get it out of the way maybe I’ll have an easier chance of reaching the finish line happening to be graduation.
Thinking about our first writing assignment, one of the suggestions focuses on the comparison of writing to running, it became apparent to me that this is something I would enjoy writing about. I am a long time running advocate, competing in marathons, and a neophyte writing student, and I find many similarities in both endeavors.
I learned a lot from this experience. I was familiar with all the kinds of writing, but I wasn't familiar with how to go about writing them. Through the assignments and tests I had to take, I know that it is important to know how to do different kinds of writing. As for grammar, I've become a lot careful with how I write. I've been checking every paragraph as write and this is something I'll continue to do. I've enjoyed writing since the eighth grade, but I've never felt like I've been improving. I've realized that I am much better than I thought I was. I'm glad I had this opportunity. I know it'll really help me in the long run.
While I've not be an academic tutor at SU, I was formerly an editor of the Austin-based music journal ATX On Record (now VinylList). As an editor, my duties included proofreading and editing article submissions, advising writers on how to strengthen their articles, and teaching them how to master the SEO.
First of all I would like to express my great heartfelt thanks for the time we had passed throughout the course and semester. It was interesting and nice because learning in funny way is among one of the best methodology teaching method to make students feel free rather than being annexed by professors.
From the beginning of the year, to now the end of first semester, I have learned and experienced a lot in the art of writing. If I could rate myself the level of skill I have accomplished this semester, I would give myself a 7 out of 10. I think I am at a 7 rating because of the type of writing I did this year, and how thoroughly I wrote my papers. I did have really detailed papers this year, and I loved some of the pieces I came up with, but I know I can always do better. I could always add more detail to my writings and come up with an amazing paper. From last year with my writings, I didn’t add so much detail or precision like I did this year with my pieces. I even now write out of school to expand more in my knowledge.
In this semester I have improved my writing skills. At the beginning, I didn’t know much about writing. Since English isn’t my first language, I had lots of errors in my essays. Writing in MLA format was one of the things I learned. Also, organizing my ideas, and then, write them in a draft, so my paper would end up worth of reading. Before turning the paper in, searching for errors was other thing I learned, because at the beginning, when I was done with an essay I would turned it in without looking twice, searching for mistakes. Now, I always double check to see if I made a mistake. Likewise, I used many common words to describe an idea or a person, I’m getting better on it, but I still need to work on finding new words to make my essays
I can still remember my heart pounding out of my chest. It was my first time in Writing 1, and my nerves were mostly the result of a friend’s advice. Winter quarter, my friend told me about her struggles in her writing class and she advised me not to take Professor Bernstein for Writing because as she said “he is really tough and a very hard grader.” However, I had no other option but to take writing with Professor Bernstein because all the other writing 1 classes conflicted with my schedule. Nevertheless, nine weeks have past since I first stepped foot in Writing 1, and I can certainly say that I have learned more than I ever expected. Yes, it is true, this class has been a challenge like no other, especially for me, being that English is
It was not surprising that I had made a few mistakes when it came to placing commas in the appropriate location in a sentence. I admittedly have a hard time with the use of punctuation. For example, I am not always sure where to place a comma in a sentence. Knowing where a comma should go in a sentence is very important. It can change the meaning of a sentence. An example I find humorous: “Let’s eat Grandma” & “Let’s eat, Grandma”. There is no doubt that one of those sentences does not make sense. I would hate to get an F on a future paper because of something as small as a
Module four was all about drafting my paper and writing down all the information I gathered form the sources I searched. The documents in the module were very beneficial, I learned how to write more efficient paragraphs, and to write in an academic style. And so in my paper I tried to avoid absolutes, be clear and brief in writing down my ideas and thoughts. Also, I learned how to write in a more logic manner. Some documents taught me how to be more integrated in my writings, how to avoid plagiarism, by applying quotes, or paraphrasing, and making sure to cite the source at the end. I believe I did well in writing my paper.
Throughout my writing this semester, I know where I struggle with writing and I have learned many skills to improve my writing . Also it will be all about all the activities we have done and how they have helped me with my writing. I will talk about the areas I struggle with and what I have learned in this semester.
My experience with writing has been one filled with . When I first began writing I actually enjoyed it quite a lot. I liked that I could express all of my opinions and feelings on a sheet of paper, but as I begin to grow older my interest in writing has significantly decreased. I do not like it as much because when writing there are so many rules and factors that I have to take into consideration. Presently, I have a love-hate relationship with writing. The only time I love writing is when it is an interesting topic. When I am given an interesting topic to write about I could write pages and pages about it. For instance, when I was told to choose a subject and write an essay about that topic I wrote a 5 paged essay about the murders of Nicole
What I consider to be one of the most important things that I have learned about myself as a writer is that I have the potential to be a proficient writer. Therefore, I must apply what I am learning and work dingenlety to accomplish the writing assignment that is before me. When it comes to research-based writing the skills that I have learned is how to use the library in a way that it is profitable to me. I also have learned how to observe and evaluate the finding of the material properly. What I learned about writing a research-based paper that is framed around a research question is that it involves critical thinking. At this time I have no big concerns about my writing or about the research paper. However, I would like to say that I wish
My struggle with clarity and conciseness is keeping my thoughts organized while focusing on the subject I have chosen to write about. Getting to “the point” takes longer for me than it should. My thoughts are conveyed as a “story” opposed to a brief explanation.
