MY PERSONAL MICHIGAN HERO When you think of someone who would be a hero from your state, you would probably come up with a person who was an astronaut, sports player, an actor or somebody who has saved many lives. It may come to you as a shock when I tell you my personal Michigan hero is my older brother Jacob. Jacob is only 2 years older than me, but has gone through so much. He was diagnosed with Autism when he was two years old. He didn’t talk until he was 5 years old and has struggled and worked so hard to get where he is at today. Kids with autism are all different, but my brother Jacob is definitely one of a kind. He has a hard time saying the words he wants to say and at the same time loves talking. He is a Special Olympics athlete …show more content…
Things that we take for granted are the things that Jacob struggles with the most. For example, when Jacob was little, it was extremely hard for him to be in a loud room and socialize with other kids. Now that he’s fifteen he’s able to play basketball in front of large crowds at the Special Olympics games. It may not sound like a lot, but it is a huge accomplishment for Jacob. My parents always told Jacob that he could do anything he wanted to, so Jacob has always set high goals for himself. He wants to be a pilot, a military officer and a McDonald’s worker when he grows up. He researches the jobs online and gets books and videos to learn everything he can about each thing he’s interested in. This is something that I really admire about Jacob. He doesn’t let anything stop him and he keeps working towards his goals. I picked Jacob as my hero mainly because I don’t know anyone else that works so hard just to be able to live in our world. Then, on top of that, he has to fight his own mind because he’s smart enough to know he’s different, but not able to fully understand his autism or change it. He’s also unbelievably happy even when people are mean to him or look at him like he’s weird. He is my hero because even with a disability, he is somebody people should look up to. He is amazing. He is my brother. He is my
Jacob’s father was an extremely talented carpenter whose skills allowed him many privileges similar to those of a white man. He was allowed to work at his own trade as well as manage his own affairs with the condition that he pay two hundred dollars a year to his mistress and supporting himself. He wished to pay for his children with his earnings and tried many times, however, he was never successful. She also had a brother that was two years younger than her that she adored. While she loved both her father and younger brother, she had a special bond with her mother and maternal grandmother. She had a loving, nurturing, and supportive relationship with the both of them. While she knew she was a slave, she was shielded from the reality that she and
Heroes come in many different shapes and sizes. Not all heroes wear capes or have huge logos on their chest but are the ones who go beyond the call of duty. Heroes step up in times of need when most will not. A hero can also be someone who uses their disability to make a difference rather than looking at their disability as a hindrance. I believe Steve Gleason qualifies as the perfect example of this type of hero. Steve Gleason, former New Orleans Saints player, became famous when he blocked a punt versus the Atlanta Falcons during the first game back in the Super Dome. The other reason Steve Gleason is famous is because of his battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and how he has used his disability to make a difference. Steve Gleason exemplifies heroic qualities through his courage, altruism, and selflessness.
After reading the novel it made me appreciate my grandparents a lot more. I rarely visit them and after reading how Jacob felt at the residential home I’m motivated to visit my grandparents more often.
My personal Michigan hero is a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and daughter. Her family is everything to her, and she has shown them to live life to the fullest, to follow God, and to be a role model. Moreover, hard work has never defeated her, and she has shown courage in all that she does. Not to mention, the love between us is like a sunny day, but shines even greater than the sun.
Some Michigan Heroes can be people that helped you in life or helped you succeed in life. My Michigan Hero is someone that raised me, taught me everything I know in life today. This person is my idol, that gave me a hand when I needed one, or told me to keep my head up and never look down. I wouldn’t know what to do in life if this person wasn’t in it.
He had made plenty of friends such as: Braeden Schoenherr, Emma Hannasch, and Katelyn Daily. Those were also the people he grew up with. That’s one of the many perks of growing up in a small town, you knew everyone. The people he went to Preschool with were the people he ended up graduating high school with. He was a good student, always brought home good grades, and he held a job while in high school. He started out at Fareway for about a year, but then decided to move jobs to the local Pizza Hut in Carroll. He was astounding at his job there. In less than a year he went from being a server there, to becoming a manager. As he went through high school, he progressively did great things. He graduated in the top five of his class, and got a scholarship to DMACC for the two years that he was going to attend college. He went to DMACC for business management and graduated at the top of his class. At the age of 25 he got married in the fall of 2025. Three years later on Christmas Eve, he was blessed with his first son, Leroy. Jacob was such a kind and great father. He always wanted the best for his son, even if it did make him upset with him. He made sure his son knew that he was loved, but not
My Michigan Hero is my one and only brother Tyler Shellenberger. He inspires me because he’s independent, hard working, and caring. He inspires me to be the best I can be everyday. Some superheroes have to get bit by spiders or get put in machines to get powers, but my brothers superpowers come naturally and that’s why my brothers my Michigan
A hero is someone you look up to. Who’s your hero? Who do you look up to? “I love my hero to Neptune and back!” My hero, Tasha Young, came from a poor family, works hard and survived cancer. My hero is the oldest of five kids, she didn’t graduate high school and she was a single parent. My mom, Tasha Young, is my hero.
My step dad Scott was my Michigan hero because he lifted my family up, played games with us and he was just nice, enjoyable, sometimes strict like dads should be, and of course a loving dad therefore a dad that cared and wanted to be in my family's lives. He helped us move on in our lives, to grow strong. I strongly know why your my Michigan hero and you should know too, because you are my Michigan hero and you always will be. I will never forget you will always be by my side. This is why my step dad Scott is my Michigan
My Michigan hero is not just a hero but is my grandma, she was always there for me through my ups and downs. Every day after school are used to go to her house, she would have Mack and cheese waiting for me on a little SpongeBob plate in front of the TV with SpongeBob on the TV. She was like my other half whenever I needed her the most she was there. She used to go shopping with me and my mom all the time and take us out for lunch. I alway imagined her being there with me all my life but that all changed. Just a couple years ago she had passed away and that was the hardest day of my life. I remember not wanting to go to her funeral because I couldn't stand seeing all the memories and pictures of us together. When I first walked into the room I just
Jacob Martin was a family man with a wife and two kids. His kids meant the world to him and he would do anything to keep them safe. With this being said Jacob did have some financial issues. Jacob worked for a sales company based in Boston called Levi’s Trades. Jacob was one of the top salesman for the company so he in turn had to do a lot of traveling. Jacob’s wife Crystal was the most beautiful girl in the world to him, but she was never able to hold down a job do to her lack of skills in pretty much anything. Because of this Jacob was the sole income source for his family. He was always a very happy go lucky man but do to the fact that he works on commission, and business has been slow, he hasn’t been able to meet his
Overall, Family was the most important to Jacob because even though she struggled through her life to have a family. Eventually she gets her family that she wanted and became a free slave. Even though her narrative story was inspirational to many African American women, also white women, she wanted to prove a point that slavery in the south was effecting the family from being sold to different slaveowners. She knew from the very first that her children were the most important people in her and wanted to run with them. However, Knowing the fact that she didn’t want to risk her whole life and her children to a person that brutally abused her. Therefore, In the end of the passage of Incident of the Life of a Slave Girl, Jacob describes about how
The first topic Jacob and I discussed was his family life. His is 16 years old and was born on May 1st, 2001 at Westmoreland Hospital. Jacob has been living in the same location his entire life. He is the oldest of two. His sister’s name is Taylor and she is 14. They don’t get along much as she annoys him. No one other than his immediate family lives with Jacob. An orange cat with white paws named Boots is his only pet. Out of everyone in his family, Jacob gets along with his mum the best. He told me that she takes care of him the most, that’s why they have the best relationship.
Anyone who influences anyone else by saving or helping save his or her lives can be a hero. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to minorities. Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest heroes, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country. Even a parent can be a hero to his or her child by leading them in the right direction. All teachers are heroes when they make it their job to teach a child anything that will help them in life. You don’t have to go to great lengths by risking your life to make a difference in someone else’s life.
The second time Jacob visits the children’s home, he encounters a group of small children that he recognizes from the pictures his grandfather used to show him. One child asks if he is Abraham, but when they see his face, they are disappointed that he is not, and run away. Jacob runs after them and follows them into a tunnel, but gives up and decides to go home. As he walks through the town
