Personal Narrative: My Honors Program At The University

My personal development has been molded by many people and things, yet the four pillars of National Honor Society have exceeded all other influences in their potency. Scholarship, service, leadership, and character— each pillar engenders its own unique form of impact upon me. Furthermore, the foundation of my future goals harmonizes seamlessly with the pillars; I shall strive toward success by applying them throughout my life.

Since the beginning of my high school career I have embodied the four pillars of National Honor Society. The past summer I spent over a hundred hours volunteering at Pocono Medical Center. At PMC I was entrusted to escort patients being discharged by wheelchair or walking,

East Carolina University is and has always been a dream school for many students including myself. I have grown up hearing about the University and it is nothing short of spectacular. Many family members of mine have attended East Carolina, and I have always pictured myself at this school. It would be an honor to be a pirate. Throughout high school I have struggled in Science and Math. I know I could have done better in high school but in life you can always do something better, im eager to push myself more and work harder than ever to succeed as an adult, if given the chance There are many times when I should I have put school in front of my extra curricular activities such as dancing, art, work, tennis, and swimming. The four pillars of National Honor Society have been instrumental throughout my entire life, whether I knew it or not. The first pillar, scholarship, or a commitment to learning, is what has made me who I am today. The beginning of my learning career, was molded by my parents. However, they instilled in me a belief that learning was vital and working hard at school was very important. Through this, I viewed my education as a challenge that I wanted to beat. I tried to learn everything I could and be as successful as possible. It was in learning that I found my work ethic, determination, and value of my future and success. The second pillar, service, is one of the most valuable ways I have spent my time. In high school, I have truly valued

When I was younger, I had a difficult time making new friends because I never started conversations and never stood up with what I believed in. I was told to join clubs and be open to make new friends, but I always seen myself fading into the background. I was tired of being known as “the shy girl” so I decided to make a difference in my life. I built up enough confidence and took the initiative to join clubs and open myself to new opportunities. Although it was difficult at first, I found myself getting comfortable and wanting to make a positive change to the community by becoming a leader. This was the most significant experience of my life because I conquered my shyness. This is why the fours pillars that best define my pillars is leadership, service, confidence, and dedication.

Due to my involvement in my school, I have a plethora of opportunities that affect my community. As a member of the National Honor Society, we stay involved in activities that benefit our chapter and Walkerton itself. For instance, we annually undergo a food drive at our school in order to supply food for the people in the community. Then we transport the food to the food pantry and once every month we take turns to distribute the food to the people who need it. This distribution we do for the community aids the people in need as most people receiving the food are unable to transport the food themselves. Alongside the food drives, I spend hours of volunteering for concessions, tutoring students after school, and aiding for the band teacher.

I like to be engaged in activities that contribute to the community. I was part of the Mile of Hope, event used to raise awareness for cancer and fundraise to support the families of those affected. Through my membership in National Honor Society I have contributed in activities such as the annual toy drive to provide children in need with a gift on the holiday of Christmas, I also participated in the annual can food drive to provide families food for a Thanksgiving meal. I volunteered at the Brownsville Public Library assisting the public and organizing books. For a period of time I also volunteered at an income tax company Jackson Hewitt cleaning and organizing the

To society I seem to be very talkative on the other hand I can be intelligent. For example was in National Honor Society, had above average grades, I was very outgoing and did a lot of sports and clubs throughout the years. People would also agree that I always have been very clumsy. In general people would say I am not an overall serious person.

National Honors Society is an amazing opportunity to be chosen for. By being accepted, it shows that the hard work that I have done in the classroom, and in the community have done well for not only the community but for myself as a person. Since I have started High-school, I have done many volunteer hours at my church. I have done many things such as help lead game-time for the little ones during a learning program called Awana. Awana is a program done by some churches to help raise children to love and serve God. I also help most Sundays in the sound room at church. I help to run the sound and the computer that displays the songs that we are doing that particular Sunday. I enjoy doing these things because seeing the children’s faces, enjoying

A true leader stands high on on the pillars of success: dedication, servitude, respectability, and honesty. The mark of a fulfilled life is not one who has collected many awards, not one who has an insurmountable amount of money and fame, it is one who has touched the most souls in his journey of life. A leader destined for greatness will touch many people along their journey to the top. In my short years on this Earth I have made it my mission from the start to leave a lasting impact on everyone I come in contact with and as a student of Howard University I will continue my mission without fault. My high school requires twenty-five service hours each year of high school in order to graduate, plus an additional fifteen to be involved in National Honor Society. While this may make all of the community services I have participated in sound like a mere school requirement, it is actually the complete opposite of that. Without those school requirements, I am not sure how involved I would be in my community. But due to them, I am always involved in some way.
