Although I’ve had quite a bit experience with writing classes because most Broward College classes are writing classes, I’ve never enjoyed them, writing isn’t really my thing. As soon as class is over I tend brain dump everything. My first writing class at Broward College was an English class that mainly helped with grammar and how to set up an essay. Some of the classes I took at Broward College were better than others. I took a geography class that was a writing class, but the writing consisted of was answering a few questions about videos I watched, in fact most of the classes taken that were not English classes consisted of this. English classes did actually help me in understanding how an essay should be written, but it did not actually
My earliest experience with writing was my learning period that formed not only my style of writing but how I studied and the ability to apply words and concepts into a structured format. The process at first was difficult because it was my first time being exposed to structured writing which caused me to put it off until the last minute or lose interest in the topic I was writing about. The rowdy classroom was eager to release near the end of the day, but we knew we had to face one of the more uninteresting subjects of the day: middle school English. The teacher thoroughly explained our assignment which made each one of us cringe. The class finally initiated work mode and I was clueless. I would start to make progress but would be constantly
What well in your classes? What did you need to do differently? What is your plan for success this semester? In this class, what will you need to do to be successful?
As technology evolves, the traditional style writing classrooms should do so as well. Students are used to the typical routine, in which an instructor lecture and hands out assignments. However, is that really the most effective way of teaching for all students? Teachers neglect the fact that not all students learn the same way. In learning this, I propose some changes that could be made in order to increase learning effectively such as; the choice of physical work verses online work, communications and feedback to students, and essays.
On the first day of class, having forgotten how to write over the blazing summer, I had high hopes I would gain some writing skill. Over the course of the last 10 weeks I learned not only that I am an extreme procrastinator, but that I had a lot to learn in the writing world. I learned many things about writing, including grammar, organization, and expression. Through late nights studying and practice in class, I can proudly say I'm a better writer than I was before.
I can still remember my heart pounding out of my chest. It was my first time in Writing 1, and my nerves were mostly the result of a friend’s advice. Winter quarter, my friend told me about her struggles in her writing class and she advised me not to take Professor Bernstein for Writing because as she said “he is really tough and a very hard grader.” However, I had no other option but to take writing with Professor Bernstein because all the other writing 1 classes conflicted with my schedule. Nevertheless, nine weeks have past since I first stepped foot in Writing 1, and I can certainly say that I have learned more than I ever expected. Yes, it is true, this class has been a challenge like no other, especially for me, being that English is
My relationship with writing has varied throughout my life. As a young child, I found that though the process of writing came easily once I started, I dreaded the preparation. However, whenever someone asked me if I enjoyed writing, my answer was always yes. I spent time in elementary school writing on my own; I found it to be a great creative outlet as well as a stress reliever. I know, you’re probably wondering how much stress could I have had at seven or eight years old. You’d be surprised. Anyway, that’s not the point of this letter.
I've loved writing since I was a young child, especially creative writing. It allows me to express myself, and it seems almost magical to be able to create things simply by writing down a few symbols and twenty-six letters in various ways. I've written many fictional stories of various genres over the years. Unfortunately, while I have done a lot of creative writing, I haven't done as much academic writing. I would like this class to help me become the kind of student who earns A's on her papers by assisting me in becoming more efficient in the overall writing process.
What I’ve experienced with writing so far is that I have limited skills. But the funny thing is that I am constantly writing something just about every day whether it be an email, or summarizing meeting minutes at work, or proposing an idea for a church program.
Within the past few months I have been in this class, I managed to improve in my writing, especially those that had to do with arguments. Before I entered this class, I rarely analyzed any forms of writing to find arguments or their ethical theme, though I still don’t, it became slightly easier to look for those then I was able to long before I came to this class.
To put it simply, College Prep Writing has helped me a lot. At the beginning of the semester, I wasn’t sure how much the class was going to affect my writing. Now at the end of the semester, I find myself writing better than I ever have. I have written some of the best work I have ever done in this class, all thanks to the lessons and exercises we did. Some of the lessons in class helped the exact problems I was facing in writing.
I read through it and overall this one is better than the first one. Good job.
OMG! Where does this comma go? Huh, what they she say? How do I make a compound and complex sentence? Someone help! Yup, that was me when the beginning of the semester started, but I’m not trying to say my writing skills are flawless because I know it’s not. What I can say is that my writing skills improved from the beginning to now. There are many reasons why someone’s writing skills can grow it could be by asking for help from a writing professor, going over the what was taught in class again, or online sources.
In order to succeed in this online writing class, I will need to persevere, have integrity, and a dedication to excellence. Fortunately, these morals have implicated in my life for over five years. My music teacher would accept nothing but our best effort. With these steep standards, learned to apply these traits to any work I attempted. Another attribute that will assist me is that I am one who knows how to motivate myself and others. This was attained through being a section leader in my band, and had to help my section learn their music and gain confidence in their performance. There will also be some practical steps that I will need to succeed. The first step in my preparing for this class would be to create a schedule. I would take a planner
In this semester my achievement of improving my writing skills has increased significantly. My sentence lengths vary in a positive manner along with my word choice improving, becoming more complex and of writing expectation. My main struggle this semester would be the peer editing. Although I have improved significantly I still find it difficult to edit others papers. Further more than the common spelling and grammatical errors. I believe my essays have improved drastically from the beginning of the semester towards the end.
One year can change everything and you can learn more than you can imagine. I spent my senior year as Mr. Bob Calderone’s apple tutor and there has been a lot of different things that can be taken away with that time. With that, I have learned a lot of useful things that I can apply to everyday life to help other people or even myself. Being in his classroom has shown me how to communicate better with students, or people in general, manage my time to work efficiently, and how to enjoy the little moments of working with my teacher and the students.
