I have never really went to a school that had activities and a lot to do on their campus… until I went to Penn State. I have never went to a cafeteria that had a live performance like I have on Thursday April 6th. My teammates and I went into the cafeteria, and it was my frist time ever being in there, and we ordered our food, sat down a listened to the popular songs sung by Caryn Dixon. She sounded exactly like Tori Kelly, who sings Should’ve Been Us, and Hollow which Caryn Dixon sung also. It was honestly like we were sitting in The Fillmore in Philadelphia – so surreal. Anyway, it was really nice to be shown and experience new things like I did that night with my teammates. I am a very anxious person, so if it were not for them taking, …show more content…
If I did not have severe social anxiety I probably would have went up to the stage after I was done being captivated and enchanted by her Tori Kelly-like voice for an hour and ask for a picture or autograph. Even though I left the cafeteria without an autograph, I felt like I was listening to Caryn Dixon the entire 25-minute drive on the way to my house because I was blasting Tori Kelly’s Unbreakable Smile, which is her new album. I admire performers who not only can sing but also can play an instrument, like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Caryn Dixon. It adds such flair to their music (and let’s face it the acoustic version is always the best version). I used to play guitar and strived to be an artist like the women I mentioned, I came up a little short, but I suppose being a softball player is close enough. Needless to say, I will definitely be attending any “open mic night,” or anything similar to it because, who knows maybe Taylor Swift will be the next performer, or maybe someone close enough. If it was not clear already I loved listening to Caryn Dixon, and the array of songs she sang, especially being with my favorite people – my team. The fact that her only talent was not just her voice, but her ability to play guitar made it even
I myself am very dedicated to music and I love to play the piano and learn and play all types of music. I remember when I was a little girl I would sneak out of classes and go to the music room where there was a piano and just play all of her music. For me, it was a way to get away from everything I was going through. Her music was deep and had meaning to every single word in the lyrics. To me, that was all I needed. I would do research on her and see what she would be doing and her interests and we were just interested in the same kinds of things. She was and always will be my biggest idols. When I was younger, I always longed to go to her concert and sit in the audience and just feel her music in me. By freshman year, I finally got tickets to see her and it was the most amazing experience ever. It meant so much to me that I was actually in tears while she was singing live and it felt so perfect. A few years later, my senior year, I went to go see her again. And this time it was an even better feeling. Her drive and determination to help anyone in her path is what touches me and makes me want to do the same things for my community and everyone around me.
Music is a passion of mine and has been for a long time (it's in my blood.) My dad played the bass guitar in a few groups, and he sings in our church's choir. His taste of music has been passed down and adopted by my brother and me.
The accapella group and the drum group was very interesting to watch. It was fun to learn the school cheers that could be used at sporting events. It was also fun to dance along to the song that was played. Sitting through the speeches was not a part that I particularly enjoyed but I know that they were very insightful and that the advice will help me later in life. Hearing from the Chancellors and the Deans of the school was very helpful. To be able to put a face to a person and realize that they are just that, a person, is extremely
She did not just sing song the whole time, she would also give a brief description about the song to the audience to make it more interesting and yes, she can speak really fast. There were two things I liked the best in the event, first, reading the poem “Little Boy Tamir” because I was explained this poem
The event was definitely needed on campus especially during Black History Month being. The students that attended enjoyed the performance and the
After reading further, I have noticed the use of onomatopoeia, which are words that sound like what they signify. As a five-year-old you often are learning a lot about the world still and he is using a lot of different noises like “I drum on the table and Ma goes knock knock on the leg of the bed, then flomf flomf on the pillows, we use a fork and spoon on door ding ding and our toes go bam on the stove, but my favorite is stomping on the pedal of trash because that pops his lid open with a bang.“ (pg.16) The author uses this I believe, to relate back to the boy's mind which uses his senses to create a new understanding of the world. I have also noticed the use of analogies. An analogy is an extended comparison between two things, typically
I always look forward to seeing Open Mic every year- it’s usually the only program I go to throughout the year. Each year has different talents, which is always fun to see, but there are also returning acts that keep people coming back. This year I think that the singers were definitely the stars of the show. Even though, in the period I saw it, three people sang the same song, each one was different and really cool to hear. This year in particular I think that the show was better put together than it has been for some of the other years: less talking in the audience, more respectful audience, and the transition between people was much quicker. While I love Open Mic, there are definitely improvements that can be made in order to make it more enjoyable for
I love music and it is a big part of my life. After all I’m currently majoring in music with a concentration in vocal performance at the unsinkable Albany State University. Music is a part of everything I do. It helps me do homework, express my feelings, and keep my sanity. I play several instruments such as the piano, trumpet, and mellophonium. I also sing and write songs. Analyzing and dissecting songs and lyrics helps me differentiate mediocre artists from exceptionally great artists. Jill Scott and Jazmine Sullivan are two of my favorite singers, but they have many different qualities.
I have always enjoyed listening to music as it truly gives me peace of mind. Many times, certain songs will bring back both good and bad memories that have helped shape my life as it is today. Even though I am not a talented musician and have never played an instrument, I still enjoy music and respect those who can play it at the highest level. My musical personality is influenced by a variety of factors including my parents, school experiences, social media, and mobile technology.
Tori Kelly’s concert was everything I wanted and more. There was a feeling of thrill from beginning to end, and I never wanted it to stop. As soon as she walked onto the stage, there was so much energy radiating off the stage that transferred to the crowd. Just seeing her on stage and so close felt unreal. It didn’t really hit me until she started singing that she was a real human. Tori sounded exactly the same when she she sang live compared to when she sang in studio versions. I don’t think I sat down once for the entire concert, and I was screaming and crying for most of it. I got particularly emotional when she started to sing “First Heartbreak” and everyone took out their phone flashlights to sway them to the music. Everybody was singing
For the remainder of the month we got together three times a week to write, rehearse and iron out details of the show. That was one of the most stress filled, exciting months of my life. On one hand the pressure of the show gave us motivation to make more progress in music that i feel like i ever had in my entire life, but on the other hand that creeping feeling that we weren't going to be prepared enough by the time the show rolled around was just as constant. After weeks of stress filled practices and promoting the show to our friends and family, and around town, the night was finally
For my third campus event, I chose to go to the Friday night viewing of the KISS Improv Show. I found out about this event from the campus events listed on the class calendar on d2l, but also when Professor Palazzo highly recommended this event at the beginning of the semester. I had never been to an improv show before, so I had no idea what to expect. I was very surprised to see a small room with no stage, and chairs very close to the performance area. I did not know that improv shows were so interactive with the audience. Saying this, the show was very interesting and engaged with the audience throughout the whole night. I learned what an improv show is and how they work, and that each performance is completely different. I think this event
I know this is kind of a drag, but its become a real problem and I just don't know what else to do besides send out a memo, so here goes. The refrigerators nasty. It really is. We all have to share that space, its common courtesy. I mean, come on guys, don't you think you could do a little better cleaning out your old food? Doesn't it kind of make sense, you know, if you don't eat something for two weeks to throw it out so it doesn't get all moldy?
I attended the concert that was held in the lower parking lot at IUS on August 23rd, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. The Louisville Crashers, a band that has been around for a couple of years now, played many hit songs ranging from pop to country to rock and roll. There were many students and clubs around the area along with the aroma of grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. The lead singer, Mark Maxwell, interacted with the students and professors and even got some of the professors to dance! Many clubs held gatherings, there was a tent for drinks and food, and many students and professors came out for the night to enjoy the Louisville Crashers.
This semester I have experience many live musical performances. Some of these performances have let me down but for the most part, these performances have been everything I ever expected. My two favorite performances this semester were Festival Vallenato and Ultra Music Festival. Although these two types of music are different in every way possible, the people and the performers are exactly where I feel I am in the right place.
