While roaming around a corner store with my grandmother, I saw some old fishing rods in the back corner of the store. After looking at them for a few minutes, one rod seemed to stand out more than the others. The price tag on it, was a bit of deal breaker though. On a student budget, three hundred dollars seemed a bit out of my price range. The more I thought about it, the more it didn't seem like the smartest purchase to make.
After finding my grandma again, it seemed that I wasn't going to leave without the rod and reel. I made a u-turn and headed for the fishing rods. I had made up my mind that I was going to buy it, even if it wasn't the most financially smart purchase.
Once I returned home, and looked over the rod and reel a bit more.

Right when I arrived at the lake, a storm came and the lightning became too dangerous. This ended the night early, without even getting a bite. "There will always be another day" I told myself, as we headed back to the truck. A call from my grandpa one afternoon, led to the news that there were Channel Catfish stacked on a rock pile in the local area, which was definitely good news to …show more content…
When the line hit the water, almost instantly my bobber had disappeared under the water. This was it, I lowered my pole as I reeled up the slack in my line. I kept thinking "Just catch this one and you'll feel better about all this." With a sudden jerk and some quick reels on the old rod the line went slack. I had missed the fish. What could of been the only bite of the day, I had messed up. Feeling quite ill after the miss, I reeled up my line and baited my hook and casted it back into the water.
Some time passed and the three of us were starting to get impatient, when my bobber started bouncing again and then finally disappeared. Remembering what happened last time, my grandpa spoke up this time saying "Let the damn thing gag on it, you don't wanna miss another one." and so that's what I did. I let this fish run with my line for nearly fifteen seconds, before lowering my shoulder and snapping the rod backwards to set the hook. This time I my pulled back so fast, my line made an audible snap across the water and my bobber stayed under the water. I had one
The year was 2010, I was fishing my first Bassmaster tournament on Onamia Lake. Onamia Lake was a special place the Smallmouth Bass were enormous and very abundant. It was the third and final day of the tournament, and I was in second place to Chase Polk. Chase Polk was the best angler on the series, and I was just a small hometown favorite that knew the lake. Every day in the tournament had been a spectacle of fishing never seen on Earth, which made it hard to get a lead. Polk had a 2-day weight of
We over around the lake a lot because how we weren't really hardly getting any bites on our fishing pools. And I had only gotten one bite and when I pulled it in the fish was only a little bit bigger than an orange. But it was
“It has been 20 minutes and I have not caught anything!”Fred screamed. He was about to give up because he didn't think he would catch anything. But just then his rod got stuck in the water, and he could not get it out. ‘’I am going
So I started filling up bags with the bait, which is sardines and pellets covered in fish oil. Later on in the day it started getting rough on the water and he told me to go up on the engine hatch to throw pots off. The rail only when up to my knees so I was kind of scared to step up there and throw them, but it had to be done. Remembering that my grandpa told me to “Not to fear the water, be confident, but always respect it” because the weather can turn in an instant. So I grabbed the buoy then tossed it over, grabbed the fifty pound anchor and as JJ says “let it fly” so I did just that.
My brother picked it up and held it in front of me so Jay could take a picture of it. I remember feeling so accomplished with myself, the adrenaline rush I got is something I have never experienced before in my life and I really enjoyed the feeling. I smiled, as my brother threw it back in the water. “Good job Kenz, that was amazing!” My brother said as he high fived me. “You’re right,” I began, “Maybe fishing isn’t so bad after all.” I laughed as I went over to my pole and started to re bait it and did so the rest of the night, but may I say, that shark wasn’t just the catch of the night, but the catch of my life; hooking me on
We wait inside the no wake zone for the horn to go off which gives us the signal to blast off and time has started. It was five o’clock and we had until nine o’clock to be back in to weigh our five best fish. We caught fish right at our first spot we stopped at and had three in the boat in about two hours. We knew we only had two more hours to come up with two more solid fish and the fishing was slowing down as the night went on. After thinking and planning we came up with one last spot to go hit. As we arrived to this sot my partner Blake caught a big fish on about the second cast. And from that time on we couldn’t get another bite and we only had twenty minutes left by this point. As the boat ramp was only five minutes away we still had fifteen more minutes to come up with this last fish. Just as I was about t reel my line in to put everything up to come back to the boat ramp, it happened. My line popped as a fish had bit my lure. I reared back and set the hook and there it was, the fifth fish we had been fishing for. My partner quickly netted the fish and we put him in the live well and raised off to the dock. We got to weigh in to find that we would be the last to weigh in. They said a total of fifteen pounds and seventy-five ounces was winning so far. I knew we had something close to that or more. My nerves began to grow as I knew I had the hot of winning my very first tournament. We put the fish in the weigh
Some would argue that fishing is expensive. Though true, cost is based on how much you are willing to budget. One could go spend their weekly earnings on every piece of high tech gear. Others can go to their local sporting goods store and cheaply outfit themselves with all the necessary equipment. To go the inexpensive way, all that is needed is a $30 rod and reel, $12 license (dependent on state fees), and $10 in tackle (hooks, bobbers, weights, and bait).
After that I kept thinking to myself that nothing will go right this day. After we had lunch we went back to the river and at that point I was so aggravated. I did not want to fish anymore. I kept catching these little fish and that was getting really annoying. Cherokee is supposed to be one of the best places to fish in North Carolina. They only stock fish fifteen inches or more in these rivers. Somehow I just kept catching these little fish. It was about 3:30 or so when all of a sudden I hooked into a massive fish. Right when I set the hook it came out. Most fish will not bite again if that happens so honestly at that point I wanted to be done. For some odd reason something told me I should throw there again. Right at the same spot it hit again. This time I made sure to not let it get off. I never knew this would be the biggest fish I have ever caught. Also never knew it would be a six minute fight. This fish was huge compared to any other fish I have ever caught. I finally got it in the net and I knew after this terrible day still something good could happen. It was the biggest rainbow trout I have ever laid my hands on. I learned a life lesson that
This fishing rod has helped me catch plenty of fish in my life but I had no idea that I was about to be able to catch as many fish as I did. I packed the fishing rod into my truck and went down to the lake. Once I got to the lake I unpacked and got set up for fishing. I got my rod and my worms and began to try to catch a few fish. I had no idea that I was about to catch a lot of fish on this particular day. After about 15 minutes I felt a tug on the rod. I pulled up a nice size fish. This was by far the quickest that I had ever caught a fish. I placed the fish in the bucket. I didn’t expect to catch another fish for the rest of my time out there but what happened next surprised me. About 30 minutes later I caught another fish. This one was even bigger than the last one that I had
Beep, Beep, I reached over and hit my alarm clock until it shut off. It was only 6 o’clock in the morning and I was already getting up. I was going fishing with my Dad, Pepe and one of his friends, Harold. We were going to Milford lake which is about 45 minutes away. My dad told me that they never have any luck at all when they go fishing, and something bad always happens, and we were wishing that nothing would happen this time either.
A hour or two later we kept strolling down Dierks Lake and started bass fishing. We were throwing out our six pound test line and it just
The excitement begins to rise as the first cast draws nearer. The motor is prepared for take-off and the key is placed in the ignition. The engine turns over and the huge motor roars. The sleek boat accelerates rapidly and speeds toward the first fishing spot of the day. In a matter of minutes, the powerful boat glides into the fishing spot. The anticipation of catching a fish becomes almost unbearable. The fishing poles are grabbed quickly out of the rod lockers, and lures are tied onto the end of the fishing line. Moments later, the sound of a lure splashing into the water can be heard from the boat. The real adventure has just begun.
The early morning breeze and feeling of nature that surround when I’m out on the water fishing is something I’m passionate for, and makes me who I am. It’s as though life around me stops and my only focus is trying to catch a fish. It’s something I could do all day and often do, and something I love to do with my friends, family, and even on my own. Fishing has affected me as a person. It requires patience because there are times when you might have to wait hours before your first bite. Along with patience comes determination, which is important because there are thousands of different ways to catch a fish. On one day a certain technique might work but on a different day I’ll have to look through my repertoire and figure out what is working
When I was younger, I believed fishing was all about having luck and I fished the same way every day, spending nearly seven hours a week hoping that eventually I’d hook into that big bass I dreamed of. As I grew older and gained experience, I learned that fishing wasn't based on luck at all and instead by skill and technique. I started focusing on how the fish behaved on
When you go fishing you need to fix up your pole. It does matter what kind of pole you use. If you are going fishing for something large like asian carp you'll need a pole that has about a 60lb weight limit rather than a crappie pole that has a 14-20lb weight limit. The reason im telling you this is because once you get out on the water with the wrong pole and hook a 40lb carp it'll snap your fishing pole clean
