You scared me!" I said I lowered my shotgun to my side; a 'Meow' came from the big, brown, hairy cat. I placed my shotgun on the kitchen table then walked over to the alarm panel and punch in the code which silenced it. I re-entered the code to arm my small apartment. My phone rang a minute later, I knew it would be the alarm company, I told them it was my cat and no need to call the police, after a few minutes of confirming some information I hung up. I grabbed a broom from the small cleaning closet and started to sweep up the broken vase on the floor, until I heard a creak outside from my apartment door. My head popped up, I placed my broom gently against a wall and stepped towards the front door. I peered out the peep hole and to my relief saw my neighbors walking down the hall. I returned to clean up the small mess; after I did I chose to start my day. I went over to the coffee maker and started the coffee. As the coffee was making I went off to my bathroom and took a shower, I listened to some music to help me get my day going. I stepped out of my bedroom half an hour later, dressed with my hair wrapped in a towel. I poured myself a cup of coffee and popped myself a pop tart and watched channel 4 local
Someone is in my house and they are trying to find me. Send help. He has a gun. Send help. He’s in my kitchen shooting and breaking plates. I’m scared. Send help. I’m locked in my office waiting for someone to help me. Send help. I hear knocks on my wall and gunshots. I can’t run and grab my hunting rifle from my room. Send help. I’m locked in my office. Send help. Their footsteps are coming closer. Send help. He’s shut off the light. I think it’s Sean coming for me. My computer is illuminating the room. Send help. A few months
It’s a quiet, Sunday afternoon. The rain is coming down outside, and the sound of it makes for a relaxing ambiance. You open a few windows and the front door to better enjoy the calming effect of the rainfall. Going into the kitchen, you decide to make a cup of coffee so you can sit down and read the Sunday paper. Suddenly, a man bursts into your home carrying a small pistol and comes running towards you. You manage to shut the kitchen door and go through the pantry into your hallway. Running up the stairs, you turn around and see the man coming up behind you. You make it to your bedroom, slamming the door shut behind you, running to get to your cell phone in your backpack. Much to your dismay, you realize it is downstairs in the living
I woke up at 7AM to continuous, banging on the front door. Next thing I know ten policemen have barged into my room. I’ve not been able to stop replaying the words that came out of my mom’s mouth. They were quivering but sharp, not like the normal sweet and soft sound of her voice in the morning.
Creek! Went my door as something entered my home. My heart thumped faster than it ever had before. I stood there frozen holding my breath. The only sound I heard was the plop of my tear as it hit the kitchen floor. All of a sudden I heard thumping as the thing that entered my house was walking up the stairs. Tip-toeing I went over to the counter grabbed the phone. My heart jumped as I heard clashing and clattering from upstairs. I flipped open my phone and dialed the numbers 9-1-1.

Corn is a food eaten throughout the world. It is easy to produce and cheap so that in the past it has composed a large part of the diet of the poor who could not afford other foods. The consumption of corn as ones main food source can cause health problems due to a deficiency of the B vitamin niacin that if not treated can lead to insanity and even death. This paper will attempt to present a brief history of pellagra, concentrating primarily on the twentieth century American south, and discussing the causes of the disease, its progression in the human body and treatment.
Ding dong the clock struck 12 o' clock. Many things never happened in my neighborhood but when things happened they were very drastic. There has been an elderly couple that has lived in an older two story house that has probably been here since the 17th century. I never was too spooked about the place not until the day one of my friends and I had the bright idea to pull some pranks on them... When we meant pull pranks on them, we meant to "roll their house". We were pretty stupid thinking that we would finally do it because we had been planning it everyday since the ending on winter, it is now the starting of Summer. As we kept inching our way from the house, we kept thinking all the wrong things that could happen, getting paranoid from
I ran straight to the door and locked every single lock using both my hands. Panicking and racing up and down in my office, not knowing where my husband was. Did they take him? Is he dead? No! I can’t think like this, everyone is safe. I grabbed my phone and called the police, hearing shots being fired, listening to the others screaming for help. Twist and turn, I hear someone trying to open the door. I quickly run to the cardboards and hide but I was too late. The glass of the windows were blown off “Money! Where’s the money”. A men jumped in, he was dressed like an ordinary person but was holding a gun. I screamed and tried to run. He pushed me back and held the gun to my face, “I said, where. Is. The. Money!” My mind froze. I had a flashback
While watching TV, I hear footsteps outside, a knock on the door, and the doorbell ring, then another knock. Naturally, I run upstairs and look out the window in order to see who is there. A truck with flashing yellow lights is parked in the road, and a stout man holding a flashlight is looking in the back of the truck. To be safe, I call my mom, and ask her if she is expecting someone. She replies with a curious no, and asks, “Why?” While I am in the midst of telling her the situation, the flashlight beams through my bedroom window, sending chills up my spine, and causing my heart to drop.
To begin with, I woke up to a beautiful morning with the sun shining bright. I looked at my hot pink alarm clock, yearning to know what time it was. Wow, that's very strange! My alarm clock never went off, that has never happened to me before. I got up took a shower and dressed myself as my mother prepared my breakfast. On the table a cinnamon raisin bagel with plain cream cheese with a tall glass of Tropicana orange juice. I left my house every morning at 6:35 a.m. but, this morning I was exhausted and running late so I didn’t have time to sit at the table to enjoy my breakfast as usual. I glanced at the clock and it was 6:50, I began to feel a rush of adrenaline pumping through my body as I rushed to get out of the house. I slipped on my Nike running shoes and ran into the kitchen to grab my breakfast and belongings where I tripped over my shoe lace. In my left hand, my bagel went flying in the air while I could hear glass shattering with
The lock clicked, and the small door opened easily. Inside was a large stack of crisp hundred- dollar bills, bound by a paperclip. I slipped out a few and put the rest back. They would not be missed. I reeked as much havoc as I could, shuffling carefully stacked files, hiding the bills and stealing the unread mail. Before I left, I wrote a message on the wall in black ink. 1-11-0. Then I smashed the jar of ink on the carpet and fled hastily back to my room, locking the door behind me. I took the trunk from under my bed and looked around. This was it. I was finally leaving. I grabbed a worn leather jacket from my closet, holding it to my face to smell. Yes, I could still smell Jordan on it, of woodsmoke and pine, of the forest where he spent his free time. Jordan was like a migraine. It was always there, just came back like shards of glass and pierced your mind at the most inconvenient of times. If Jordan was a migraine, he was the most beautiful one I 'd ever experienced. Pulling his jacket away, I cursed myself for getting wrapped up in sentiments. I slipped it on and grabbed the trunk again. I was ready. I climbed out the window and onto the balcony. Our house was huge, a mansion, you might say. There was a sloping roof under the balcony, and I climbed tediously onto it, my feet slipping on the shingles. I inched my way down to the edge of the roof. Then I jumped into the manicured hedge below. I suppose I should have given
Beep!… Beep!… Beep! The alarm clock roars in my face awakening me from my short slumber. “Already! I just closed my eyes and it’s already time for school!” I grunted. I slid out of bed and into my clothes. I can hear my younger brother, Dylan, rustling upstairs doing the same as me. This was one of those mornings where I would do just about anything to close my eyes and catch some shut eye. The man was I tired! As I began drinking my hot chocolate, I decided to get some fresh April air so I took my dog out. It was a quiet day… unusually quiet. Not too many cars passing, birds chirping quietly, and school was coming to an end. Ah yes, school is almost over, so I can finally sleep in for however long I want. The school makes the thought of eternal rest sound appealing. “James, take the dog outside!” yelled my mother. Little did she know I was already out and about doing my morning chores feeding the dog, boiling water, and making my lunch. I noticed that my dog was glued to the front door of my house; barking nonstop. “Hmm strange,” I thought, she barks a lot but this was unusual because nobody was in sight. It was a peculiar Monday, but I brushed off these strange events and continued on with my boring day.
Ding dong!, I heard the doorbell ring. “Can you get the door sweetie! My mom screams from the kitchen.“Hmm i wonder who is here,”? As i open the door i hear, “help, hello get me out of here!!”, but there is no body. What the heck i wonder. As i start looking around, there sitting on my porch right in front of me is a big box. Not just any box, it is a wiggling, moving ,talking, shaking and a enormously huge box. So i call my mom and she came and said “sweetie get in the house please im calling the police”. Ok i said heading up to my room. “Come on luna and cooper”. I call. They are my cat and dog. I grab my phone and flop on my bed with cooper and luna already on it lying down.”gese how do they get on the bed before i do? I think to myself. We o! we o! I hear sirens pulling up to my house.
After school Katie rode the bus home and went up to her room to look for her earplugs. She could not find them everywhere she looked so just gave up after a while. A few days later a couple of the family’s belongings had gone missing. Sophie lost her puppy that could dance when you pressed it’s paw, Will had lost his bright green work gloves, and Celeste had lost her brand new necklace that said mom across it. One night when everyone was in the living room Will walked into the kitchen and heard a muffled screaming sound he ran into the living room and everyone was just normal sitting on the couch. “Hey why were you guys yelling?” Will asked. “Dad we weren’t yelling.” Katie told him. “ I just..” Will stopped. “Never mind, I guess.” Everyone just ignored it and went off to bed. In the middle of the night Celeste woke up and went downstairs to get a glass of water. When she was walking down the steps she heard a wierd sound like somebody was whispering. She stopped for a second and ran back to her room to get her phone. She flashed the light off her phone up and down the steps still hearing the voice she got nervous. When she walked down the steps she couldn’t hear them and when she walked to the top of the staircase she couldn’t either, but when she was in a particular spot in the middle of the staircase, she could hear the voices. She put her ear up to the wall very slowly and heard the noises more clearly. All of a sudden she heard “SLAM”. She took her ear off the wall and ran upstairs. She woke up Will and told him what she heard, but when he checked there was nothing. “Maybe it was just rats or something.” Will suggested. “I know what I heard there were voices!” Celeste tried to explain. Will told her that he would call an exterminator to check it out.
The day was beautiful, I knew the sun shined only because it didn’t know what I was about to do. I dressed in my best, one could even say I was “dressed to kill”, but “kill” wasn’t really my style. I prefer the word “slaughter.” I walked down the cluttered street beaming a smile at anyone I could make eye contact with. Adrenaline pumped through me making my fingers twitch and shake. I hid their fear by swinging them by my side and smiling wider. Something sinister jingled around in my mind and the more I walked the more violently it smashed against the walls of my mind. With every pound it rang. It rang and rang until I couldn’t hear anything.
