“Hey Dad I’m off to work” I yelled as I raced out the door to my first day at my new job. The local soccer academy hired me to work twice a week after hours to clean their building. Having witnessed my lack of cleaning skills for 16 years my dad looked shocked. For years I had been getting yelled at and called back out to “finish my job properly.” I would often leave crumbs all over the counters or left over food in the sink after being asked to clean the kitchen after dinner, or sometimes I wouldn’t pick up all the fallen sticks in the front lawn before I had to mow it, Determined to change my dad’s belief, I hopped in my car and drove off to work. I began working twice a week and devoted myself to making sure I cleaned the building as meticulously
The egg hissed as it glided across the frying pan. The oozing whites grew opaque, fluffed up, and sizzled near the pan’s edge. Otherwise the house was surrounded with a disconcerting silence. I drummed my fingers impatiently on the kitchen counter. I glanced at the clock again. 9:00 Am. I sighed. Only an hour had passed since I rolled out of bed, and I was already struggling with this seemingly easy English assignment. Initially I had scoffed at the idea of becoming unplugged when it was introduced in class; I perceived it to be effortless. However, with 23 hours remaining I realized that abstaining from technology was far more challenging than I had anticipated.

A few years ago cheerleading was a huge part of my life. I was on two competitive teams that worked hard three days a week to perfect our routines. When we were not practicing we were encouraged to attend open gyms which were aimed at practicing our tumbling skills. I attended the open gym being held one day not knowing that it would be my last. As I landed a one handed cartwheel my knee was twisted so drastically that I heard a loud pop that followed up with intense pain. After icing it and resting for a few days, I started to interpret my pain as being more serious due to the fact that it was giving out on me while doing daily tasks. I also had two close friends that had torn ligaments in their knees that needed repaired with surgery, so
I believe in having responsibility for my actions for the rest of my life. Responsibility can earn me a ton of things, such as money and treats. If I do an action or sometimes help my mother with an action, I gain a dollar or two or my mom gives me a treat, like Sweet Frog’s. In this case, I wouldn’t mind being responsible because it involves something that I care about dearly.
The gentle rays of the early morning sun were not the first things to wake Dr. John Watson. An alarm clock, placed strategically by the bedside, began to beep at approximately six am, waking the ex-army doctor. Now used to civilian life after only a few years, like any normal person, John slammed the snooze button and snuggled back into his warm bed once more. However, living in the same apartment building as the infamous Sherlock Holmes, sleep was a sacred privilege that needed to be honored by both parties’ in silence. But today was Mrs. Hudson’s birthday, so falling back asleep was not an option. Last night, both residents agreed to do something nice for their sweet old landlady by getting up early and making pancakes as a thank you for
The darkness consumed my cousin, but not completely. A part of me did not want to believe that she committed a mass murder and maybe, just maybe it was someone else. But the proof that the police needed was all there. We weren’t that close but it pained me to know that someone who i thought to be as a kind and caring person could kill people.
… Beep beep! The cars zoom past Pearl on the city streets, the wind tossing around her freshly cut hair. Pearl is walking back to work after donating ten inches of her hair to Wigs for Kids, an organization that makes wigs for children with cancer. As Pearl walks, she slows her brisk pace and stops to give an elderly veteran a couple dollars. “Thank you, Miss,” the veteran says gratefully.
Click! In the morning, my ears always wake me up first. Then the light from the hall slowly creeps through my eyelids. Slowly, I sit up in bed trying to get my brain to wake up. Moving like a slug, I start to get off my bed, and then walk to my closet. I grab my shirt, pants, and socks. As fast as a speeding NASCAR race car, I quickly put my clothes on. I then grab my baseball gear from my pile and then carry them down stairs. Then the smell of breakfast drags me down stairs. I sit down to a steaming hot breakfast. On my plate, there is 2 eggs, cinnamon toast, and spinach. To the top left of my plate there is a glass of milk next to my vitamins. Then on the top right there is steaming cup of bone broth. I eagerly gulp down my breakfast in
I was so annoyed with this hike for the fact that the mosquitoes were so bad it's like when my little brother throws a bunch of legos at me, and the night hike has started. This hike is called the sensory hike it's at night and it's when we do our solo hike AT NIGHT it's gonna be so scary. When the hike started it was I should be thinking more positive but so much could happen in the next couple hours. I have been so tired from atwood the hikes take FOREVER and they make your legs hurt a lot. After walking for like an hour my group and I finally went to the stop for the solo hike.
I, Grace, Queen of the Moon, Empress of the Night, have nothing to wear. I woke up about an hour ago and in that time I've ate breakfast, taken a shower, and have stood in front of my closet, failing to find suitable formal wear. I am now in the shop downtown being fitted for a black floor length silk dress, 'cause the king of France just can't have a pool party and make everything easier. The lady measuring me was poking and prodding all over, and I was tempted to get her fired, right then and there, but seeing as I had lived inside the moon all of my life, I probably needed to get used to the humans and their culture, and this is a fine time to do it. "OK ma'am, I'll have it done in a couple hours." she said putting in the last pins needed. "Thank you!" I responded distractedly. I took the dress off as soon as she left, and put on my jeans and dark blue blouse. Sighing, I looked at myself in the mirror, making sure I looked OK. I fixed my dark grayish blue hair, and walked out of the dressing room. As I walked out the door I handed her the dress and said "I'll be
Andrews 1James Andrews, Formal Essay 1Mr. WrightEH 130118 May 2018I Will Go I was married to my first wife on September 11,1999. Two years later we were excited to be spending our anniversary weekend in New York City. We arrived on Thursdaymorning, and spent the entire weekend doing every touristy thing we could find. Monday night came and it was time to fly home. Our flight was delayed and nearly canceled. We finally got off the ground around 3 A.M. andwere back to work a few hours later. I was listening to the radio when I heard about a fire at the World Trade Center. It caught my attention, because I had taken several pictures of us at the towers just the day before. We all know what unfolded as the morning progressed. The news immediately
The best hour of my summer happened to occur during my family vacation to Laval, Quebec. It was the morning of our second day at Le St-Martin Hôtel. My family and I were on our way to the continental breakfast that was to be provided by the hotel, as informed by the lady at the front desk during check-in. Prior to our entrance, my expectations for this breakfast were not anything more than they were for the complimentary breakfasts I had eaten in the past. However, what I was about to realize was that this was no ordinary continental breakfast, but more an authentic French feast! As my eyes skimmed the grand banquet room, I was captivated by the numerous breakfast items on the tables displayed throughout the room. The dining tables were located near a large, polished balcony, of which the doors were opened. The elegant decor and classy chandeliers were also a divine touch to the ambience.
It was a misty morning right above the ocean’s surface. My brother’s head, along with seven others, was bobbing in the waves and obscured by the morning haze. The sun had just broken the horizon and emitted its luminous rays of scarlet red, orange, and pink underneath the clouds. Beyond the clouds was the sky, an endless pool of blue. I felt like I had jumped into a picture of a brochure. Subsequently, reality came back to me and I no longer felt pleasant emotions from the scenery.
“ Grab your, things we are leaving,” my mom said. From that moment, after those words were said, my life completely changed. I was a little girl when my world flipped upside down. I went from having everything to having nothing at all. This all happened due to “a little fight” that became big; a fight where hands were thrown and tears were dropped. My brother got into an argument with my grandma’s husband and her husband hit my brother. My mom was at work through all of this and I was in a corner, crying, hoping that someone walked through that door for help. My grandma was just there, watching, trying to blame my brother for something that just happened. Thank god in this moment an angel walked through that door, my mom. I run crying to her
Then the 134 arrived. I got on, showed my pass to the bus driver and
