Being here in Alvin is the fresh start I needed. I moved here from North Carolina a few years ago, and I was kind of awkward and uncomfortable. I was always studious and academic, but I never felt like I could really be myself. I was kind of still in my shell and nervous about what to expect from my new life. Since then, I’ve not only learned a lot academically, but also about myself. All of my teachers have all been wonderful, but today I want to tell you a little bit about my 8th grade science teacher, Mr. Borden. Mr.Borden, agreed to dress up as Elsa from “Frozen” if all of his classes averaged a certain grade on the STAAR test. Mr.Borden, could you please stand up so everybody can get a good look at you? Who wouldn’t want to see him in a princess gown? It’d be hilarious, right? Well, we were determined to see him in that sparkly …show more content…
With all of the creative and unconventional assignments I got in Science class, it gave me chances to take more risks. On one particular assignment, we were instructed to create a model for NASA illustrating different components the Universe. So, my new team members and I constructed and decorated this big rocket ship. On the inside, you could walk in and it displayed different diagrams and games on the walls. We gambled on a big idea, and not only did we get a 100 on the project, but we took it to compete in the district PBL showcase and won first place. It was so amazing to share our hard work with everybody, and we were so proud. I don't think we would have been confident enough to take so many chances or show that work to other people if we hadn't know that Mr. Borden believed in us, and would be there to help us in every way he could. So, if I can leave you with anything, remember to not only give us,
It was a small town in Cornersville, Ohio. Nothing much ever happened in this small town until one day. A new family moved in one afternoon. Everyone was surprised because no one even noticed the house being built. Everyone was still delighted that they moved in because the couple, Bob and Nancy, were very friendly. Bob and Nancy helped with all the activities in town and were very generous. A couple of weeks after they moved in, a lot of strange things began. Money started disappearing, the lights in the town went out every night except for Bob and Nancy's lights, even people's pets went missing. One night, everyone's lights went out at 11:30 as usual, except there was an extremely loud noise. The neighbors went outside to see where all the
On Thursday 12/01/16 at 2236 hours I was dispatched to Terminal Park Elementary School located at 1101 D ST SE because four juveniles had knocked over a donation bin and were throwing rocks at the school (reference AP160088033). Dispatch advised it was possibly related to two other malicious mischief calls that had just previously occurred in the nearby area.
On 1/16/17 at 0225 hours my partner, Officer Thebeau #8402, and I were working patrol assigned to unit 3A11. We responded to a radio call of “shots fired” in the area of 814 N. Garfield Ave. The comments of the call stated, a 19 year old female was shot in the hand.
Our yearly pilgrimage to our deer lease in Menard, Texas starts every year on the first Friday in November. To get there we head four hours north thru the sprawling metropolis of San Antonio, full of its traffic and impatient drivers. Upon leaving the city limits of San Antonio, we head west towards Kerrville and the landscape starts to change drastically. No longer are we driving on flat land but now the car is climbing small hills and the road winds. We drive in this direction until we reach the vast acres of ranch land located on a lonely farm road between the small cities of Junction and Menard. If you drive too fast down the winding road, you will miss the old metal gate that is almost hidden by brush trees. My husband is the hunter, yet I love to come with him, because this is the place, where I disconnect from the fast paced life of city dwelling and feel reconnected once again to nature and I find peace and rest here in this cactus and dirt oasis.
Well let start off saying that its been Awazing getting Here to Davis, I have been through a lot these couple of years, even before I started school.School was something that was a new thing for me because I was born in Mexico and move to the United States for a better living ,so at the time I was 2 when i was staying at my grandparent’s place while my mom found a job and had a house, then she met my dad he was about 20.When we first moved with him there were a lot of people that are better known as my aunts and uncles my grandma and cousins they were all strangers back then. The first couple of years of school father was always strict, he would time me out for not getting all the right I even remember I would cry because my dad told me
There’s one decision that I’ve made that I’m still carrying out; meaning, I’m still not certain whether it was a good one or not. My decision was to come to Squaw Valley Academy. I did not want to go to my local high school as the education system wasn’t the best a couple years ago. It still isn’t but occasionally I wonder if I made the right choice. By going through with this decision I have changed a great deal. I have been at this school for almost two years now, and I’m definitely not the same person that arrived here. Going back home I realized how different I was from my old friends, and how much more mature I had become.
Over my spring break I was lucky enough to get to go to Florida with my college baseball team and I got to see one if the most beautiful baseball stadiums in the US, JetBlue Park. I got to watch Florida Gulf Coast take on Florida State at JetBlue Park, which is used as a spring training field for the Boston Red Sox. My initial thought of the field is it’s almost exactly like Fenway Park with the same field layout, the big green monster in left field. Which surprised me because this was only a spring training field, very few games will be played or broadcasted here. This ballpark was unexpectedly nice and an experience I will never forget.
I witnessed my cousins boyfriend corpse lying on my neighbors lawn. It was a humid summer night around 3:30 when I peeked through my window and saw my devastated cousin sobbing uncontrollably on my decaying porch. Being from East chicago, Indiana has transformed me into the person I am today.
Today, we reached The Dalles. Nate told us we have two choices. Either we can float down the river, or we can go around Mt. Hood. We talked it over, and almost everyone agrees we should go around. I'm certain everybody remembers Ezekiel and the river, and none of us want to go through that again. So we start on Barlow Road, which will take us around the mountain, tomorrow. Things aren't getting much better here. We are all so tired. I think that once we get to Oregon, I will just sleep through winter.
Anderson Theatre has truly shaped me into the mature young adult I am today. My freshman year, I decided to join theatre not knowing what to expect. None of my friends were in theatre, and it was something I decided to do completely on my own. I walked into the first meeting, late because I had cheer practice, and sat in the back of the Fine Arts Room by myself. I then let cheerleading take over all of my time, and did not return to theatre until Dry Tech. That day, I walked in and started working. In that 12 hour day, I realized that doing hair and makeup is something I am really great at. In that 12 hour day, I met dozens of people with whom I am still friends with today. Because of Anderson Theatre, I met my best friend. I laughed more than
Every single person has their own unique identity and culture. At first when I moved to Lafayette from my hometown it was like being a White Tiger around all regular tigers.I didn't really fit in and I kinda stood out because I wasn't from Lafayette.I moved to Lafayette from my hometown in the summer of 2015.My cultural identity fits me because of my accent.
During my trip to Louisiana this weekend, I made plans to meet two of my friends at one of our favorite restaurants. The racial composition of the group was two black individuals and one white individual. We were having lunch and catching up when a white woman who was sitting nearby with her two children came over to ask if my white friend could watch her children while she went to the restroom. She never made eye contact with me or my other black friend and the question seemed solely directed to the white individual of the group.
I grew up in Forestdale, Alabama no matter how far i go that’ll always be what i call home Birmingham made me who i am i made many mistakes there but I also had plenty accomplishments there to that is where i was brought up at i will always visit there. I will try to come there every chance I get and just hang out with old friends and talk with family like i use too when i was younger. It made me who I am because it was a place i’ve always felt safe and could call home no matter what happens i know that place will always be there for me and I will always have someone who loves me unconditionally and always be there for me I will always get greeted with a hug and a smile. The place i feel loved the most is my great aunt's house in Forestdale
Where I come from it's taking pride in your yard, knowing every single one of your neighbors, and leaving doors unlocked because there isn’t a thing to worry about. I find comfort in that small town feel, and I am more than proud to be from good ol’ Warrenton, Indiana. Here, we are just a wee bit shy of being big enough to be on a map, but we have a name and we have town lines. Within those lines nearly two hundred people have found a home, and thanks to Mr.Dave Gruible our community is steadily flourishing. There are now three subdivisions on the rise in addition to the church, salon, family restaurant, and campgrounds that nestled into the area years ago.
In my opinion, I deserve at least a 90. I deserve a 90 because my teammates and I worked closely and collaborated to decide who done what. During our project I done the slides over science, argumentative slides, and the slide that describes Dr. Clark and, what kind of teacher she is. With the footprint project I gained several things from working with a group. I learned that for a group to be successful, all members have to do their part. The second thing I learned was that we did a lot more things than I thought. Lastly, I learned that being in a group is important, and it means doing your part. All in all,I feel I earned the 7th Grade Footprint project.
