It was really crazy living through this summer hearing day after day about all the hurricanes, earthquakes, and fires that were ravaging the world. It seemed like every week there was a new disaster and with each headline, I definitely felt more and more desensitized. I remember when I was in middle school, the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan and although it was so far away, I was distraught at everything that was going on. As I have gotten older, these things have affected me less even when they hit closer to home, which makes me very uncomfortable. I know I am not alone in this because I talked to a lot of my friends this summer about this very thing. I am not sure why this is happening, but I do know that my generation has become quite
Throughout the past year I went through a great deal of undertakings that caused me to become more experienced with my skills and how to overcome various challenges. These really built up my character and the way I am today. In all aspects, this past year consisted of going to Killington, Vermont, my brother going into the Air Force, meeting him in Texas for his graduation of basic training, completing a double backflip on a trampoline, landing a front flip on flat ground, accomplishment of a 2 ½ front flip on a diving board, getting 2nd at leagues, and competing in districts. All of these activities have advanced me in a skill or challenged me to an extent.
As the second half started, I started to feel confident in myself. Leuzinger started attacking very quickly. They kept taking shot and crossing the ball, but I just kept blocking the shots, I felt unstoppable. They started getting more dangerous as the minutes goes by. We were defending most of the time in the second half and were not getting many opportunities to score. As the game is coming closer to an end, our defender cause a foul, so they were rewarded a free kick. I start to set up my wall with four of our players as they are protecting the right side of the goal. I go towards the middle as the referee allows the player to shoot the free kick. My heart was racing, I hear the crowd cheering all over the field, the coaches screaming at
I usually neither support nor oppose the candidates running in the local elections. But, I am going to take an exception this time to openly declare my support of Dr. Nazeera Dawood for the Johns Creek City Council's Post 5.
One day i was fishing in my uncle mikes pond and mom said that i needed to drive the golf cart the the end of the road .then she said that dalan was coming to the pond ,so i drove to the driveway and when i seen him coming around the corner he was going about 70 mph and he slammed on the brakes and turned in the driveway and he followed me to the pond .he gave us all a hug when he stoped to get out.
John was trying to win a ping pong competition and failed to qualify and there was another competition that wanted John to join, but John didn’t want to go because he thought it was lame and he felt like he was not going to make it like last competition so he didn’t go.John got bored one day and read the invitation and he suddenly,he felt that he wanted to try it out and he asked his mom if she can drive by and check it out. Then John signed up for the ping pong competition and said to himself in his head “Game on”.
Growing up I had always been into action sports from riding BMX bikes, racing dirt bikes, snowboarding all the way to boogie boarding hurricane sized waves at the Jersey Shore. I loved it all. I will always remember watching Tony Hawk jump over a car on his skateboard at Six Flags. As a kid, watching professionals do unimaginable tricks sparked something inside of me.
When i was born, i had a breathing problem, and paralyzed from head to toe. The doctor had to straped tubes to me, so I can breath properly. They have to perform operations on me, but It was unsuccessful. The doctor said, that i will die in a couple of hours. My mom and dad were shocked that was still alive in the morning. I was recovered so fast it was a miracle. A year later, i was out the hospital. 10 year laters, my parent was watching nba on tv ,while i was sleeping in my bed. Then the power went off suddenly. BOOM!! Glass broke.! I woke up and got curious where the sound came from, so i got out of bed, grab my baseball bat and went to investigative.i tiptoe into the hall wall trying not to make a sound. Then i heard a gun shots and
The lush landscaping and secluded setting of Winchester Place apartments enables residents to enjoy the quiet life in Northwest Houston while still being minutes from Beltway 8 and Highway 290 when they need to get to downtown Houston. There's a Kroger and McDonald's within walking distance and a bunch of other stores and restaurants nearby. Walking and jogging trails, a 24-hour fitness center and two racquetball courts give residents what they need to get exercise, and there is a pool with sundeck to use for relaxation afterward.
I, myself, feel as if Carr and all of the experiments performed, along with the results, were all completely spot on. Not only do I see these adaptations in others but profoundly in myself. My smartphone distracts me every single day, and not just once or twice but many times. Compared to other teenagers I may not be as bad, but I still see the shortened attention span and losing the ability to be creative, critically think, and problem solve to be quite a huge issue. I agree with the bit about video games enhancing visual literacy because I have numerous friend who avidly play them and are always extremely fast to respond or can maneuver around technology faster than I ever could. I think the people and experiments he used as evidence in his
It was a day that I had been waiting for all season, why? Because it meant that the pain was going to be over and it was my final race to prove how good I really was to everyone and hopefully fulfill the goal my coach, school and fans set for me. That morning of October 28th I woke up really sick to my stomach. Nerves were taking over my body and I couldn't sit still. The ride to the course I remember putting my headphones in and zoning everything out and never truly coming out of it till after the race was over. I remember my mom hugging me and telling me how proud of me she was and that no matter how bad my shins hurt to keep running. My coach grabbed me before I went to the starting line and surprisingly said how proud he was of me too, but that it wasn't over so that could change. It was so cold outside and I remember being able to see my breath and worrying that it was going to really effect my performance. I could also see the
I have learned throughout the years that I am a person who gets nervous easily. Whether it is a speech, difficult test, or sports game I can count on the fact that I will be nervous, no matter the context. For me there are two things that I constantly worry about in these situations; the many possible bad outcomes, and the hype that comes before any of these situations. For example, when I was younger and had to go get a shot I would always stress about it leading all the way up to the shot. My mom would always say that the build-up is worse than the actual event. But, by over exaggerating the pain I thought I would feel, I validated my claim that shots are stressful. She was right, the shot and the accompanying pain were gone in ten minutes.
The paradox of human nature is driven by the paramountcy of competition. Whether biological as powered by evolution, or modern as in the case of college admission, competition galvanizes progress. The simple fact that elite colleges are becoming more selective due to the large number of competitive students demonstrates this. Resolution is not earned without the conflict that precedes it; therefore, even defeat should be treated as an opportunity for improvement, as it is all we can really do.
I always had trouble making friends. I was socially awkward, misunderstood almost every cue from my peers, and too clumsy for my own good. By the age of 9, I knew it would be exponentially harder to build a relationship with others. My parents started the process of divorcing each other, placing me in the mediator position. During this time, I was forced to help raise my younger sister and manage the household while my father worked. Instead of doing elementary school workbooks, I balanced checkbooks. Rather than trying to understand vocabulary words from novels, I had to figure out legal terms. I stopped trying to connect with my teachers and my only friend. I became closed off from other people, but more importantly, myself.
“I’m the one that’s got to die when I have to die so let me live life the way that I want to.” (Jimi Hendrix). This quote inspired me to do everything that I do to the fullest because life is short. This quote is a great quote because it sums my entire life up in under 25 words. I am writing this letter so that I will be able to help you get to know me as a student and as a friend better. I can’t wait to start this school year off so that I can learn how to do so many different things and help me in areas that I need help on.
Finding something that is truly captivating is necessary in everyone's life. It allows one to lose track of time and releases stress. For me, this activity is spending time at the barn during the summer. This is a place where I can let loose, spend time with my favorite horses and have fun with friends that I’ve missed during the school year. This activity allows me to emerge myself into something that I am truly passionate about. I’ve grown up riding horses and I can’t imagine my life without them. They are interesting and unique animals that always leave me wanting to know more. In this case, I turn to my riding instructor Kim Simac, or my veterinarian mentor Doctor Lauren Hughes. Both have had a huge impact on my life, as they have taught
