Party Preference After researching the beliefs of the two presidential parties in greater detail, I have come to the conclusion that I share more qualities and beliefs with that of a democrat versus a republican because of foreign aid, gun control, and immigration policies. I am convinced that these three issues have helped me further the process in choosing a side because I tend to have more of a liberalistic view, rather than a conservationist view. I’ve realized that I want change for the benefit of the greater good, rather than for the individual. I also believe that since our society is evolving, our country’s views must build new ideals in order to continue what the country values most, peace and freedom. The first topic that I have based my party preference on was the political party’s stances on foreign aid. The democratic views on foreign aid policies are that the U.S. should raise the budget to support the more disadvantaged countries to further repair the gap between the wealthy and impoverished. On the other hand, Republicans are more concerned about the U.S., and only see helping others as an alternative in keeping the peace. I believe that in order to keep bonds and have strong connections with other leaders, especially through trade, the budget needs to either stay the same or increase. In situations like the invasion of our country, …show more content…
The topics that proved that I was more of an equal opportunist rather than only caring about personal gain were foreign aid, gun control, and immigration policies. With the democratic vision, all Americans, including those in the process of immigrating, have the chance to achieve their dreams and pursue their goals. I believe that with these ideals we will be able to strengthen our communities and share the equality and freedom, that everyone
Although the founding fathers advised against the establishment of “political factions” as the Constitution was going through the ratification process, which was the split between the men in President George Washington’s cabinet. Their initiative was to move toward the idea of political party. By the end of the of the first decade, the existence of the United States under its current constitution, a two-party system, had began. Although these two political entities were steadfast in their initials ideals, both parties had to modify some of their original positions on various issues as they faced the reality of governance.
There were many political disputes that happened in the United States. Many people were fighting over which party they should go to or which one was better. They had the Republicans and the Federalists who wanted to sway the vote to their side. They opposed each other and disputed against each other. This caused many conflicts in the United States.
For many years since 1879 citizens of the United States wait in line to vote for the next great president who will help the country stand tall for another four years. But the mistake doesn’t lie in who you vote for, but what you are voting for and supporting. We sometimes ask ourselves, “what does each party do?” or “what are their beliefs for our country?”
Party polarization is another factor halting action being taken to solve the problem. Both political parties in the United States have divided views among many issues. This polarization between the Democrats and Republicans has formed because over time their membership of the two parties are purer, causing them to grow farther apart, states Jonathan Haidt and Sam Abrams in their article, “The Top Ten Reasons American Politics Are So Broken.” Republicans are becoming more conservative while the Democrats on the other hand, are becoming more liberal. In the issue of global warming, the division between the two parties are very distinct. The Democrats in this matter believes global warming exists and should be dealt with. The Republicans on
This article relates how House Bill 25, a bill designed to end straight-ticket voting in any Texas election, passed through the Texas Senate with precursory support by a two-thirds vote on May 17. An update states that the bill received conclusive support through a vote of 19-11. Opponents of the bill believe that it is an attempt to undermine the power of Democrats, as well as unfairly affect minority voters. In the previous year, Michigan attempted to enact legislation much like House Bill 25, but it’s endeavors were halted by a federal judge, on the grounds formerly mentioned. Advocates
When it comes time for a presidential election every four years it boils down to two main groups of people who come out on top: the Republicans and the Democrats. One of the candidates who will win the presidency has almost always been a Democrat or Republican. Now, these candidates have drastically different opinions on everything, one example is climate change; Republicans will usually say it is not relevant or it does not exist and have a conservative mindset toward the issue, while the Democrats will mostly have a liberal mindset and are willing to accept the fact that the planet is changing for the worse. One of the major problems with Republicans is that they tend to be very conservative and have a closed mind to many problems that face the country, however on the other side there is the Democrats; who have a very liberal and open mind to problems and are willing to change things for the better and have open minds to problems facing the world.
In the forefront of the political system in the US are the two major parties; the liberal Democrats and the conservative Republicans. While each party strives for peace and prosperity of the United States, they have many different views on topics that are always in people’s minds including; gun control, immigration, health care and many others. These parties have evolved through hundreds of years of competition and ideas from all over the world into the modern parties that we now have.
With the 2016 Presidential election coming in November I thought it’d be appropriate to look at the similarities and differences of the two political parties; The Republicans and the Democrats. Each party has their own set of principles they believe are best suited to run our Country. Together we will look at their ideas on immigration, the 2nd amendment, and our economy.
The two parties have continued their 150 year long tug-of-war battle for dominance and over time have become symbols of American politics. It is nearly impossible to hold a political discussion without bringing up either or both of the parties or some prominent member thereof in reference to where they stand on the issue being discussed. A major
After learning about the different sides and actually understanding their views I can see more clearly now how I seem to identify with both parties. When we took the quiz in the beginning of the unit, I had really no idea about the difference between a Republican and Democrat besides that one was more conservative and other was more liberal not even knowing the differences between the political ideologies and the political parties. When I talk about politics with people, I feel that knowing where I stand on the political spectrum will be helpful to me because I will be able to make more educated statements and viewpoints to others within this
Republicans want to limit the number of social programs and encourage the individual states to be more active in their own social welfare. Democrats feel that more government is better, where the Republicans feel that the individual states should have more power. Democrats favor gun control legislation most of the time. Republicans do not seem as interested in that issue, and many Republicans can be viewed as pro gun advocates. Democrats favor affirmative action for minorities and women. Republicans favor helping the entrepreneur and tend to give tax breaks to big business. Democrats champion the cause of labor unions, while Republicans realizing that union votes are important, at the same time feel that labor unions have too much power and cost big business too much money. The next set of political differences about the issues of capital punishment and abortion rights are quite paradoxical. Democrats favor a woman’s right to choose, at the same time they are against the death penalty and want to rehabilitate prisoners. Republicans, many of them are pro-life as well as in favor of capital punishment and being tough on crime. Democrats want the government to be more involved in public education, and want more money dispersed for student loans. Republicans want the states to take the responsibility for educating their children and also want to provide vouchers as an alternative to public school. This issue is also tied to how Republicans are
After reviewing sources about Republican, Democratic, and Independent views on issues that are most important to me, I found that my views are most consistent with the Democratic Party. The issues that most strongly influenced my conclusion are preserving our environment, gun control, and rights for the LGBT community. I feel strongly about combating climate change and building a clean energy economy. Additionally, I regard gun control to be an important matter because there have been too many tragedies caused by lenient gun laws. Finally, I believe in human rights for the LGBT community because they deserve the same rights as all Americans regardless of who they love and who they identify with. Through research of the sources provided
While democracy, to be a balanced system, should be two or more parties who hold different beliefs, the Republican Party and the Democratic Party have a long history of feuding when it comes to debating the major issues. The biggest issues that continue to be ongoing debates between the parties are education, tax reform, immigration, national debt, healthcare and abortion. Republicans tend to lean more toward the freedoms, rights and responsibilities of the individual and the democrats lean more toward American equality and social responsibility. Due to the differences in core beliefs between the two groups, it is uncertain that the two parties will ever be able to see eye to eye.
All across the world there are major political parties fighting in each country in order to take control of their government. The United States of America is not an exception, as the Democratic and Republican parties compete against each other in every election in order to gain control of the US Government. These two political parties are the most popular and powerful in the US, there are very popular that other political parties have no chance on competing against these two in an election race. In order to win elections the parties need the vote of the people, the parties need for every gender to vote for them in order to have a chance in winning the election. Both parties need the vote of the men and woman, but these genders tend to vote
Growing up, my family had always been strictly Democratic with a conservative view here and there and it surely has influenced my political stance. Not only that but being a Democrat to me means being a humanitarian and genuinely having hope for the future of America and all its
