1. At Sophie’s Preschool we designed to respond to the increasing needs from families with
it helps support their developments and their mile stones they face while growing up they will have more confidence e.g. taking there first steps in front if people say in a child care setting cause they will have attachments in the setting to give them confidence. it will help the child feel security and happier knowing that if they needed someone or was feeling sad they could go back to that person and then go off and play but still keep having check in every now and then.
In the study they only involved the caregivers of the child and their response to the study. To increase accuracy and add to the results, in future studies they might consider involving the children with Autism Spectrum Disorder to record valuable data. Bringing in the children in the beginning and end in order to record the results and effectiveness of the program would help tremendously. Doing so would help the study by providing more information regarding the results and improvements the caregiver and child have made
The first three years of a child’s life is the most important and central time for the brain’s development. Autism is a disorder that can be diagnosed during the infant or toddler stage. Children can be diagnosed with autism by having different impairments such as social interaction, pattern of behavior, eye contact and speech impairment. Having the child being diagnosed with ASD can change a parent’s life view. Parents can learn different things in order to help their child. Parents will be provided by health providers different treatment, different placement in education and knowing about the different risk factor to make a difference for their autistic child now and in the future.
If the toddler is able to explore with certain boundaries, the toddler will most likely develop a sense of self-sufficiency. On the other hand, if the parents are never satisfied with the toddler’s effort and are overprotective, the toddler may develop a lack of confidence and shame (Romero).
• Partnership working between parents and settings/practitioners to provide the best care for the children and ensure parents are included in their child’s developmental progress.
Being in a position to do the assignment on his/her own without the help of the parent is a benefit because it avoids dependency. It also builds confidence, and self-esteem in the life of the child since they’ll be getting used to handling things on their own without relying on someone else or the help of their parents.
Screening tools used by these professionals would support early recognition and referral of children with questionable development. Therefore, when nurses carry out routine well-child visits, they should consider a critical opportunity to obtain developmental information which help in the identification of children with developmental delays such as autism. These children, if treated as early as possible with the best interventions available, will have a better life with academic achievement, higher IQ, better job opportunities, decrease criminal history, etc. Furthermore, nurses are educators and have the responsibility in helping parents to understand the developmental milestones and inform them of the available community resources to support families with an autistic child. Education is important because parents have the responsibility to help and teach their child affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders
to early years learning, and also allows parents the opportunity to return to the work place.
With the prevalence of autism at an all-time high, there are many benefits to identifying a child as early as possible. Identification and intervention can dramatically improve outcomes for children with ASD. Children have increased neural plasticity at a very early age, making it easier for children to learn new skills such as communication, play, and overall skill development. Early intervention will improve children’s behaviors and remediate areas of weaknesses. Also, according to the New Jersey Early Intervention System program, early intervention makes the transition into preschool easier for children diagnosed with autism. In addition, parent-implemented intervention usually leads to better parent-child interaction, improved communication, behavior, and better maternal knowledge of autism.
A lot of people don’t realize the challenges of living with a child who has been diagnose with Autism can be. It is a twenty-four-hour seven day a week job no vacation, no sick time and no pay. From the time the child is diagnosed it is a constant worry especially if the parents don’t know much about the condition. It starts with continuous Doctor visits, social services, and therapy sessions, just to figure out how serious the condition may be and what level of the disability the child has and this is only this beginning. Next, to find the tools the child needs to overcome the disability, like learning development and cognitive process, social skills, comprehension capabilities, and many more depending on the severity of autism.
“Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) formerly known as just Autism, is a disorder that affects about 1 in 68 children here in the United States.” (Facts about ASD) This is a pretty high prevalence and the number is continuing to rise. “Autism is a developmental disability that can cause significant impairments in behavioral, communication, and social aspects of everyday life.”(Facts about ASD). The intellectual functioning of individuals with ASD is among one of the biggest of all disabilities. The range can occur from moderate intellectual disabilities all the way up to super genius levels. However, most students function at average intelligence in all academic areas except for reading and math. The reason the name switch form Autism to ASD occurred is that now according to the DSM-V Asperger’s Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS) are now disabilities that fall into the spectrum that is ASD. Diagnosis of Autism can be determined at age 2 with high reliability, but is not often discovered until the individual reaches school age and begins to fall behind their peers. It is critical that a parent goes and gets their child screened for developmental disabilities at the doctor at least every 9 months during their few first years of life, so that if they do have a disability early intervention strategies can be employed. ASD occurs in every racial and ethnic group,
According to ASHA (American Speech and hearing association) “Autism Spectrum disorder(ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by deficits in social communication and social interaction and the presence of restricted, repetitive behaviors”. Throughout history the definition of Autism has changed from not including social aspects to including social aspects. The definition of ASD is not the only thing that has changed, technology has followed suit. Experts can now detect and diagnose at a faster rate than ever before, allowing parents to watch for signs that point to autism. Informing parents faster can positively aid in how a child develops emotionally, physically and socially. Properly detecting and diagnosing is imperative being
Besides from the child having opportunity for fun through interaction with another person, a rougher and more challenging (though still comforting) environment that is beneficial for development. This type of play which is more predominant when provided from a father can present the child the opportunity to learn his own physical boundaries, the effect of its own actions on its surrounding world, and to learn about its own emotions while discovering the notions of winning and losing. Studies have proven that interactions with the father through play and otherwise teach children to become more emotionally aware of themselves and others. Studies have shown that these children will also get along better with siblings and peers better due to these emotional developments (6). These benefits for the child can also have lasting effects into later life for developing relationships with others. The father figure is also usually more responsible for influencing challenges and trying new things for young children. This is significant for the development of the child’s problem solving skills as well as his or her self-esteem when able to succeed in new or challenging situations. These can also help build independence as a father figure tends to allow the child to explore the world and try things out for him or herself. The father figure is also more responsible for disciplinary action towards the child which not only teaches the child what kind of behavior is
Life can be troubling, confusing, aggravating, although it can also be delightful, happy, and relaxing. Knowing someone with autism can lead to more confusion, but a child that has autism can be even worse. Commonly people aren’t aware that their child is autistic or that someone around them is autistic. Classifying children as autistic is done correctly and incorrectly every day, because autism has just become recognized and isn’t commonly known by most people and doctors recently. There are many different views on autism, whether it is classified to the children correctly or incorrectly using the DSM-5, and if autism is treated effectively.
More than two million individuals are affected by autism in the United States and it is one of the fastest growing disorders but with very much research being put behind it. Autism can tend to be one of the most confusing and stressful disorders but yet it is still able to be coped with lots of patience. Imagine being put down or not given an opportunity deserved because of something that is out of one’s control, more specifically children with autism spectrum disorder. Parents have a huge role in preparing their kids in order for them to be able to be around others. It is not easy especially with autistic ones but kids with autism can be capable of being at the same pace as others and should be treated the same just as students normally
