There is an important event that happens in every person’s life. That important event may be a number of things. Such as someone winning the lottery or even having a tragic loss in the family. My important event in life was the day I conquered my fear of heights. Everyone has some type of fear or phobia that absolutely petrifies them. Whether it’s a fear of snakes, swimming, or even germs, it can be conquered as I discovered.
That day I overcame my fear of heights took place at Six Flags over Texas. The day started out with my five friends and me going to a Student Council convention. After the convention we were granted access to Six Flags for the whole day. Now the only problem for me was Six Flags had roller coasters.

The rides entrance itself made my legs weak with sheer fear. The pathway was like a maze and then the stairs appeared to warn me, by saying turn back now. As I climbed each step I tried numerous times to escape. The escape attempts were foiled by my so called friends blocking the only exit. I said,” Come on guys I can die another day.” Audrey quipped,” Oh come on Taylor, man up and go on the ride.” Now I can’t really describe the feeling of having a woman tell me to man up. I said,” Ok I got this.” I shrugged off all my anxiety and nerves and just went with it.
I started feeling confident as I waited in line. Finally the moment arrived where I took my seat on the coaster. At this point my anxiety and fear came rushing back all at once and my blood even seemed to boil. I realized though if I didn’t do this now I probably never would. So I pulled the bar over my stomach and tried not to puke.
I closed my eyes as the ride ascended from the platform and came to a stop at the peak. I opened my eyes to nothing but the skyline. I said,” Guys if I survive this I’m going to kill you all.” The moment of truth was upon me now. The Coaster was at the mercy of gravity as we descended the massive drop. In the split second I had before we fell off the earth I knew there was nothing I could do to stop ride. As I
Deciding to be the dare devils that we thought we were, we went on the Rock Bottom Plunge which is the supposed scariest ride. It also happened to be one of my favorite rides. As we approached the ride, I could hear the blood curdling screams of the current riders. The line was quite long, but I knew that it would be quick since the roller coaster went really fast. To pass some time, I decided to take a look around and see what we should ride next. Before you knew it, it was time to ride the Rock Bottom Plunge. After picking out our seats and “listening” to the muffled safety rules, the ride began. I could feel the fluttery feeling in my stomach as the ride went up to the mall’s ceiling. I felt relief as the ride finally reached the top. Much to my dismay, that relief quickly ended as the ride decided to quickly drop. The rest of the ride was like a blur after the drop and before I knew it the ride was
“Please let me live after this situation!”. Those terrifying words came out of my mouth when I was 115 feet off the ground. I was 12 years old when I paid a visit to Six Flags Over Georgia. There was one particular ride that I had never rode before which was the Superman Ultimate Flight ride. This ride is one of the biggest roller coasters in park, and when riding it you are on your stomach as if you were flying. I was always trying to avoid riding the ride, yet my mother wanted me to ride it with her. We spent 3 hours in the line. While waiting in line, I could feel my stomach turning. The closer we got to the ride, the more nervous I got. My palms were sweaty, my heart was racing, and I could not stop thinking about all the bad things that
There were thoughts of actually dying and that gave me a strong excitement. The ride had begun it was slowly going up at first I could see myself getting higher and watch my mom wave at me. All of a sudden the ride had stopped. It was about to get much faster and at that exact moment my mind went blank. The ride had started going up instantaneously as I started to yell at the top of my lungs. I was faced toward the theme park as I went higher I felt butterflies squeeze my stomach. Once I reached the top the ride it stopped moving. The whole theme park was so small from the top of the ride I was surprised to realize that my mom looked like an ant. The rays of the sun were flashing into my face but I was feeling fantastic. Suddenly, there was a sound of gas release and boom the ride started to go down and things started to get bigger again.
I was standing in line with my sister and cousin waiting to get on the “Viper”. We were at Six Flags having already been in the long line an hour and a half. We all went on our favorite rides, then we decided to go on the roller-coaster. This was going to be my very first ever roller-coaster in my life. Then the roller coaster conductor told us to get on the coaster. I jumped in, put my seatbelt on and listened to the safety precautions. Then the conductor pressed the button and we were off.
My heart pounded as my feet gradually left the safety of the grounds and began its ascent on a ladder that rattled on every step. Sweat formed in the palms of my hands while my gaze remained transfixed to the ground. In my mind’s eye, I envisioned myself landing with a splat on the ground. This was my first time at White Water, Six Flags. At first, when my cousins invited me to the trip, I presumed that in the worst case scenario, I would face a roller coaster; I can stomach that as long as there were seat
As the worker pressed the button to go all I could hear was people screaming from another ride. As we went up I could hear the roller coaster clicking second by second. When we got to the top it felt like we were miles above the ground. We were slowly leaning over the ground feet dangling in the air.
Imagine being in the front of the line standing next to your brother and he is exited and pumped and he can’t wait to get on one of the scariest rides in the Midwest. Your feeling sick and scared inside and trying you’re best not to show it. You keep saying “Don’t get on this ride.” You said ten times but you end up sitting in a cart right next to your bigger brother Hector. Right before you get buckled in your aunt Marci tells you to cover your eyes all the way through. I decided to do what I was told. The ride started move and I opened my eyes and it was going slow. I told myself, “this isn’t so bad.” Next we went up really high and then suddenly we went down so fast my eyes started to cry. I covered my crying eyes while screaming. We reached
Isabella gazed up into the sky and saw The Intimidator 305 looming over her as it was sped faster than the speed of light over its tracks. As it soared the sky high, metallic hill she heard the screams of joy and exhilaration from the people on the roller coaster. To Isabella, it only sounded like screams of fear and terror and all she wanted to do was get back in the car and go home. Her deepest fear were roller coasters and she never wanted to go near one. Isabella protested against going, but her friends had dragged her to this awful place called an amusement park. As they neared the amusement park you could hear the sound of metal on metal as the rides twisted and turned on its railings. Finally, Isabella was close enough to see the enormous
The ground looked up at me menacingly. After an agonizing 2 minutes, we reached the curve at the top of the hill. As we rounded the bend, I glimpsed the drop ahead. The butterflies drummed twice as hard now. Then, the end of the curve was upon me, and we stopped! “What happened? Is something wrong?” All of the sudden, the brakes gave way. A yell tore itself from my lungs as we flew down the hill. My hands gripped the armrests like there was no tomorrow. But then, after the initial drop, excitement flared through me. “This is the best rollercoaster ever!” I thought to myself. The coaster took me up, down, and all around. It felt like I was flying, we were going so fast. But, to my despair, all roller coasters end. As we pulled up to the dismount station, I thought to myself, “I’m never going to forget this!”
I remember looking up at the monstrous ride and hearing the ear-piercing screams coming from the people above me. Just the sight of it filled me with fright. As soon as my dad asked if I wanted to go on it, I gulped and put on a brave fearless face and said, “Yes”.
I was always scared of roller coasters, something about them made me feel weird inside. I would go to Great America with my friends and wait outside the rides that were scary for me. I never really thought about getting on any rides that dropped at the speed of lightning and loops that make your stomach flip upside down twenty times. I would just sit down and watch the rides as they dropped. That was until one day, my friend told me “Close your eyes I’m taking you to somewhere that’s fun.” I didn’t know what she meant by that but I did what she told me to do. She also covered one of my ears I didn’t know why. “Open your eyes Steven.” I did and at that moment my mouth dropped. I tried running from the line but it was too late. My friend had made me get in line for the scariest coaster in the park. It was named “Flight Deck” .The seats were empty and the small gates opened. She pushed me into the seat and locked me in as fast as she could. I heard the snap which meant the seat was
“Okay, and what’s that?” I shot back. Please don’t say Mach Tower, please don’t say Mach Tower. “The Griffin.” I could feel my eyes triple in size and I knew he took pleasure in making me squirm by the smirk that appeared on his face. He placed his hand over my mouth to stop any protest and hulled me across the park to my doom. As we neared, I kept my eyes on the blue loop-de-loops and corkscrew spins. We stood in line and I didn’t even realize I was shaking until he hugged me and gave me words of encouragement. As the line marched forward inch by inch, we talked about random things. I knew he was trying to distract me and it worked because I got so wrapped up in his laughter and anecdotes that I blocked out time and all other sounds. We finally find ourselves in the next group to go on. As the silver gates open, anxiety floods back through me. He takes the seat on my right and grabs my hand. I feel a gush of wind push past my face as the cart takes off. I hear the tracks click and I squeeze Tyler’s hand until both our knuckles turned white. The rotating bands dropped us off at the top of a 90-degree drop. I closed my eyes and prepared for the drop as Tyler screams next to me, obviously our emotions were on the opposite ends of the spectrum. Before I knew it, the ground was coming at me quicker than I could scream. The cart makes a sharp turn. The ride happens
After four minutes of walk to the sky ride board, she paid 50$ and invited 5 of us to enter and get to the top of the mountain. At first, I didn’t want to get in because it was full of people and also I valued my life so much. I was so afraid to get in but I was motivated when this little girl got in and was so excited. As I get inside, I found my place in the middle and hang on, very tight. At that time, I didn’t want any distraction from nobody. All I could think of when I entered was let’s just get to the top of the mountain safely. The sky ride started moving as slow as a tortoise. I felt like we were driving up to the top mountain at 5 miles per hour. We finally got on top of the lake, I was so scared because I thought the wire was going to stop and we all going to die like in the movie final destination. I started having bad feelings and also rethinking about the movie. The sky ride just made a movement which nearly made me collapse. At half way, we have seen another sky ride on the other side going down towards where we were coming from. A few minutes later we got to the top of the mountain. On the top of the mountain, the view is very beautiful. I could see the whole of the Atlanta metropolitan and many cities around it. I took a whole of pictures and I made a couple of friends too. We finally get back to the sky ride to go back
I shivered as the scalding sun was replaced with a dark sky and a cool breeze. The people that had crowded the theme park rides were now absent. Mostly absent anyway. I was at the Six Flags theme park in Texas with my friend Kera and her parents. We had been at the theme park for a majority of the day riding roller coasters. By “we” I mean Kera’s dad Rob and I. I was his roller coaster buddy all day since Kera and her mom Shannon were more interested in shopping. The last roller coaster we wanted to go on was the Titan. The biggest and fastest coaster in the theme park. That day was also the first time I rode my first roller coaster, so this was a huge jump for me.
Fear is the number one obstacle everyone must overcome at some point in their life. When the word fear is brought up I like to think of past situations that I experienced. There are many different methods used to conquer and learn from our fears such and exposure therapy, having a growth mindset, and thinking positive. For example, when I was younger fear was my worst enemy, School was the main reason that caused my fear. My fear of failure was my biggest obstacle growing up so I used that as a method to learn from my fears.
