To understand whether or not outsourcing is beneficial, it is important to have a complete understanding of what it is. Simply stated, outsourcing is a practice employed by some companies in order to reduce cost by transferring work to third-party suppliers rather than keeping the work within the company. The most widely known example of a company which outsources jobs is Apple. Rather than keeping the manufacturing of its products in the United States, Apple chooses to outsource jobs to a third-party, major manufacturer in China called Foxconn, famous for providing the world with iPhones, iPads, and many other Apple products. Because outsourcing transfers a lot of American labor overseas, it is often heavily criticized by a lot of working class Americans. Many see the practice of outsourcing as immoral because companies are sacrificing the welfare of its workers simply to increase profits. The negative effects of outsourcing within the United States can be seen in many industries such as manufacturing, information technology services, research and development, and call centers. Cumulatively, all these industries provide millions of jobs, some well-compensated, to Americans. With a large English-speaking population, American companies do not have to worry about any barrier language barriers with regards training and negotiation. In addition, India also has a large population of unskilled workers who can work either manufacturing, or the call centers. Perhaps the most important benefit of outsourcing to India is its lack of regulation which allows companies to compensate workers far below the value of the work they are doing.
