Health can actually mean various things to different people and it all depends on an individuals situation and circumstance. There are various factors that can potentially affect health and these factors include gender, age, family relationships, mental and emotional capabilities, life experiences, culture, spirituality and socio-economic. All of these factors can have some potential influence on your health status, health beliefs as well as aspirations. For example looking at the given case study there are several life experiences that could have an influence on Emma's lifestyle. All of which can cause various health related issues. She is going through a lot of stress and stress has been known to worsen or increase the risk of conditions like heart disease and obesity. The biomedical aspect of health focuses on biological factors and it doesn't take into consideration psychological, environmental and social influences. From looking at the study materials it states that a typical definition of health could merely be the absence of disease but as Blaxter (2010) argues health should be viewed as more than just not being ill. The biomedical approach to healthcare is constructed in terms of both physical ill health and treatments. One definition by Lippincott's Medical Dictionary (2006) states ''A conceptual model of illness which excludes psychological and social factors and includes biological factors, in an attempt to understand a person's medical illness and disorder''. Biomedical definitions don't take into consideration how concepts of wellness, life views, or environmental and social-cultural factors affect
