Georta Mack, 14, is a teenager who was shot and killed by his father in Ohio on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. The father said that Georta had left for school that morning and came back in through the basement. He exclaimed that he heard noises and the son had jumped out at him and scared him, it was then that he shot him. Georta later died at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. The father’s name has not been released at this time and the shooting is now under farther investigation.

Five weeks into his deployment, Stouts’ unit of 14 were positioned at the Khe Gio Bridge on Highway 9 near the DMZ where they came under heavy mortar fire and ground attack by the NVA leaving 5 wounded, 1 captured and 2 dead, once of which being Mitchell W. Stout. Sergeant Stout upheld the highest traditions in the military when he gave his life to save the lives of his fellow soldiers. After undergoing the heavy enemy mortar fire by the North Vietnamese Sapper Company, Sergeant Stout was in a bunker with his fellow soldiers when a grenade was thrown into the bunker. At the risk of his own life and without second guessing, Sergeant Stout ran to the grenade and made his way towards the exit of the bunker where the grenade went off, using his body to shield the blast to protect his fellow soldiers inside the bunker from further injury. Of the two that died that night, Sergeant Stout lost his life due to multiple fragmentation wounds at the age of 20 years old

John Geoghan was a Roman Catholic priest who was found guilty of a sexual offense, as well as accused of many accounts of rape. Geoghan was caught in the act many times before he was ever charged with rape or sexual assault. However, instead of being held accountable or being put on trial, he would simply be relocated. Geoghan was even caught by other priests bringing young boys into his bedroom. He denied the accusations of his peers at first, but later admitted to the molestation of four boys (“Who is John Geoghan?” n.d.).

Aiden Apple, age 10 weeks, died 3 hours ago in a human cooler. Reports say a can of “Mountain Dew” crushed him on his way to the beach. Official cause of death: BLOOD LOSS. He is survived by his spouse, Pam Pear; one daughter, Phoebe Pineapple, and one son, Oliver Orange. Aiden was a fruit farmer for the Simply Fruit Company. He will be remembered for giving fresh fruits to people around the world. The family will accept visitors at Fruit Funeral Home from Tree to Juicer. Oliver will be buried at Cherry Cemetery on Sunday. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations of bandages to fellow fruits in the area.

The Rehoboth Beach Public Library was established by local service organization the Village Improvement Association (VIA) in 1912 in order to provide free access to books for the community. In its early years the library moved between VIA member’s homes and public spaces. The library quickly grew, and by 1915 had a collection of 600 books with 233 borrowers. In June 1942 the State Library Commission designated space for the library at City Hall where it remained for 43 years. VIA members served as librarians until 1968 when the first professional librarian was hired. In 1985, the library relocated to Rehoboth Avenue, where it has remained since.

I am originally from a small city in the middle of Florida named Ocala. It is a family friendly city locate approximately an hour away from the beach both on the East or the West side of Florida. I spent my first eight years growing up playing on the beaches, catching lizards, and going over to friend's houses. Ocala has a strong sense of Southern hospitality and the mindset that you should always help your neighbors. Growing up in this community taught me a lot about being polite to your elders, caring about everyone, to listen the first time, and how to cook some of the best cobbler ever.
