As per a blend of definition from many universities, an orientation leader plays a chief role as a role model and source of information about the university for new and transfer incoming students. Virtually, I hardly agree with this but I have confidence in orientation leader has inherent to do it and be much more. An orientation leader should a mentor, friend, teacher and many other things too. Furthermore, an orientation leader has an opportunity to enhance the experience of incoming freshmen. Stand on my observation during my freshmen orientation week, I observed that there were plenty observation leaders with disparate personalities. But, many extroverts, social, communicative and equally inviting leaders are most impressive. New incoming …show more content…
All incoming students, from different nations and diverse culture so I have an opportunity to be extrovert with them from where I can learn many things related to diverse cultures worldwide. Leadership experience will help me to make my career off campus. Also, it gives me opportunity to make international friends due to that I can improve my communication skill, leadership ability, extrovert nature, as well as technical expertise which will be beneficial to enhance my self-personality. That is the first reason, I would like to help new international students as an orientation …show more content…
When I was fresh incoming international orientation attendee, I got some trouble during my first week because for me, culture, country, people and many things new. Even I never visited another country before coming to the USA. I always spend my most of time with my family and the first time in my life I move to another country where everything is new for me. I felt nervous and frustrated. I had faced lots of trouble to understand everything. That is why my main approach for a new incoming student is, they will not have to face that thing which I had faced. That is the second main reason for me to help incoming freshman. I think that I can take responsibility to be an orientation leader because in 6 months of a period in Lamar university I became familiar with the campus facilities like Classroom, Library, Health centre, Rec centre, Baptist church, Research centre, Business building, cultural activities and recreational activities also. I also have a membership of IISE so participated organisational activities, discussion, sports, visits and much more with IE graduate and undergraduate students as well as faculties which will help to be an orientation
Being orientation leader, on top of being a student worker, helped me develop my public relation skills as well- though this not necessarily related to academics, it is useful considering my desired career options require that I know how to handle tough situations with students and parents alike.
As one of the sixteen members of the inaugural class of Terry Scholars at UT Arlington, I have proven my ability to lead. My passion for leadership has given me the initiative to get involved with as many organizations as possible, and network within those groups. Freshman Leaders on Campus is the perfect medium through which I can refine my skills and collaborate with other leaders all across campus.
Being an orientation leader is a very important leadership position at North Carolina State University because an orientation leader gives the first impression of what incoming students can expect from the student body. Leadership is embodied in every facet of one’s demeanor. The three Ted Talks: Learning to be Awesome at Anything You Do, Including Being a Leader by Tasha Eurich, Everyday Leadership by Drew Dudley, Want to Sound like a Leader? Start by Saying your Name Right by Laura Sicola; relate to orientation in various ways. During orientation the three most important aspects of leadership to hold are: body language and or tone, adaptability, and purpose.
Respect and Integrity. The understanding and execution of all three principles will allow me to successfully inspire, influence, and motivate you in the right direction.
What would later become one of the deadliest plagues the world had ever seen started innocuously enough in the spring of 1918 spreading through populations on both sides of the Atlantic. Remarkable for its highly infectious nature, the spring strain was relatively non-lethal, rarely killing infected individuals (Kolata, 1999). Thus little more than average attention was paid to the precursor of a virus that would eventually kill between twenty-one and one-hundred million individuals worldwide (Barry, 2004). Only after the fall wave of the 1918 influenza did it become a requirement to report cases of influenza thus information on this first wave is sporadic at best (Kolata, 1999). I will argue that the nature of this missing data combined
My highest scored driving force is altruistic and my second highest is selfless. These are great qualities for a leader to have. I put others needs and well-being before my own and help others achieve their goals. My lowest two driving forces are instinctive and structured. These qualities are important for managers, especially structure. Structure is one of the main descriptive words used when talking about management. My low score in that means I need to become more structured and follow traditions in order to become a better manager.
My Mission Statement as a leader: Develop my Soldiers to have trust in me, as well as
A good leader leads from the middle and not the front. Leadership is working with people in order to complete a task, instead of telling others what to do. Delegating and helping others realize their potential and work to their strengths is what leadership is all about. Leadership is the ability to listen to others and show them the right path. I strive to be a leader in all I do. As a pharmacist, I will be the leader in the community and be able to help patients with their medical needs. While I have had times in my academic classes that I am able to step up and be the leader, I often use my leadership skills most in extracurricular activities. I have served as President of my cooperative house, where I learned so much from the constant leadership.
Leadership on many occasions has been misinterpreted by many individuals. Many assume that leadership is an easy skill people can develop, however, it isn't. Leadership comes with significant responsibilities such as establishing an influence, guidance, or encouragement on others. While there are some people who seek leadership with the purpose to obtain the power and abusing it for self-interest. I can proudly identify myself as a person who has been titled a leader because I have portrayed an influence. Around my last two years of high school, I became a youth leader at church. Being a youth leader was not only a major learning experience for those who I supported but also for myself. For instance, I had to go through a discipleship class
I want to be a START Leader for the University of Guelph-Humber because of the amazing experience and mentoring I had when I was going through orientation my first year in regards to student services, resources, and campus life. I really appreciated the help and guidance I was given and I want to pass that on to new perspective students. Through my short time here, I have had the opportunity to attend many events and workshops that helped me enhance my leadership and communication skills. I believe I can use these skills to effectively represent my program and the student body as a whole. I think it is important to be involved in school affairs as this is an opportunity that gets me to interact with
There are two types of people in the work field. One is the leader and one is the follower. The people in the management do not necessary they are meant to be the leader. There are many reasons that a person became a leader, it is more important how to be a successful leader. A successful leader is able to lead the team, inspire the team and help the team to succeed and grow. There are people are born natural to be a leader, and there are some people because a successful leader by experiences or inspiration from other successful leader.
As a leader, it's important to know yourself. In fact, I believe you can't lead if you don't have some basic knowledge of who you are as a person; like beliefs or strengths and weakness. My leadership must incorporate not only my positive attributes but must be willing to make changes with aspects of my personality that don’t work. Admittedly, I am sensitive and also passive. I tend to avoid conflict as much as I can. These characteristics might lead to issues of weakening my leadership. Being a leader to me shows having to show a strong front to most people. That doesn't mean a person should compromise who they are. I have to have a certain image when I enter a classroom. I can learn to be more assertive and have a firm voice in a classroom. I looked at the Johari Window website, to see what results I would get on their quiz.
In my next sit down with Mr. James, I decided to focus more on his interest and his leadership abilities. Although we spoke on who inspires him and what motivates him to stay in the music education field, I still felt the need to dig deeper into why he chose to be a music educator. After greeting him and taking a seat I got started with my first question “What are some of your interest?” After taking a minute to think about the question Mr. James took a deep breath and responded “I am interested in many different. Primarily, what I am most concerned with is music, community, and politics. Music again because I feel like it connects most of my other interest. It’s a form of communication, whether your happy or sad it gives you emotion and an
I want to be a craft artist because I really like art and doing crafts. And I think it is a great way to express yourself in your work. I didn’t really know that you could sell crafts, I knew you could sell paintings but with other things like christmas ornaments, I only ever made them just to keep for myself. I don’t think that a craft artist has to be someone that paints or makes sculptures, they can be someone who makes and sells things such as wreaths, ornaments, and custom shirts.
Flag desecration is not a recent issue for America; in fact, it first became an issue in the United States after the Civil War. Shortly after the Civil War, many people felt that Southerners and businesses threatened the trademark value of the flag. Eventually, this lead to forty-eight states passing laws that banned flag desecration. These laws basically made it illegal to mark on the flag, advertise the flag, and show contempt to the flag. The Supreme Court quickly ignored the laws when a “teenager was arrested for wearing a flag patch on the seat of his pants, the Supreme Court ruled that laws that simply ban “contempt” of the flag are unconstitutionally vague and that they violate the First Amendment's free speech protections” (Head). The U.S. Constitution should not change to specifically protect the flag from burning or desecration.
