Introduction Organizational Behavior is the study of what people think, feel, and do in and around organizations. Organizational Culture is the basic pattern of common assumptions, values, and beliefs leading the way employees within an organization think about and act on problems and opportunities. Organizational Trends are patterns of change over time in some variable of interest. In this paper we will evaluate two trends in organizational behavior. Ideally, people should be aware of their stress levels and communicate stressful situations to their employer before stress develops into a problem. For this to happen, employers need to ensure that the organizational culture is one in which employees can openly and comfortably talk about work-related stress without repercussion. In fact, organizational culture affects the way individuals and groups interact with each other, clients, stakeholders and the public Because people are so individualistic, it would stand to reason that each organization would have a unique culture, or even group of cultures based on location or department/focus (Tatum, 2010).
In elementary school I heard the phrase like a girl used every day. On the playground it was you run like a girl. I did not understand what like a girl meant at that point I thought it was a compliment. I ran like a girl. I ran fast and far and as long as I can. So thank you. However in middle school I started to realize like a girl is just a way of saying that someone cannot do something. Saying like a girl is a way to make girls feel that they are not as important in the world. Saying like a girl is a way of showing that girls do not have a significant contribution in society.
Organizational culture is “a system of shared assumptions, values, and beliefs”, which direct how people perform in an organization. This culture has a strong influence on people’s behavior including how they dress, act, and perform their jobs. It also provides guidelines and boundaries for the behavior of the members of the organization.
Many believe that stress is a simple problem, however it is often misunderstood and more complex than they believe (p. 181, Griffin & Moorhead, 2014). The article reviewed is called “Dealing with the Stressed: Workplace Stress Costs the Economy More Than $30 Billion a Year, and Yet Nobody Knows What It Is or How to Deal with It” by Ken Macqueen, with Martin Patriquin and John Intini. It begins with an excellent visual of the ‘cubie world’ many of use deal with on a daily basis. Authors describe a “fabric-covered box,” where “some troll in the IT department monitors your every keystroke,” and where your “boss is going to tug your electronic leash if he sees you leaving this early.” Stress? “Commonly cited causes of work stress include low salaries (46 percent), lack of opportunities for growth or advancement (41 percent), too heavy a workload (41 percent), long hours (37 percent) and unclear job expectations (35 percent),” (APA, March 8, 2012). These job stressed transmit into lives lived outside of work too. When managers are taking all of these stresses home it can be impossible to actually de-stress from work while away. When I surveyed the managers 100% reported that they feel stressed outside of work. 75% rated this question a 5, they are stressed to the highest degree. Although stress outside of work can relate to many non-work problems. The next question asked to survey “I handle stress well.” the ratings were not ones to match with having stress outside of work also.
This author believes Hayes & Weathington (2007) given a great definition of stress which states “stress is any circumstance that places special physical or psychological anxiety on a person such that requires an infrequent or extraordinary response occurs.” Based on this definition it can be said stress from a job will overlap into one’s private life which only will complicate issues more. The effect of stress can leave individual with the mindset that they are trapped in this situation and will not be able to acclimate to the situation.

Stress is part of our lives. We live with it, deal with it, and above all worry about it. Our way of life, the area in which we live, the economy, and our jobs can cause a great deal of stress. Not everyone deals with the same level of stress and there are several factors that can impact our lives and cause us to have higher or lower stress levels. We can have stress caused by Cataclysmic events which according to Feldman (2009) are events that can affect many people at the same time and are “disasters such as tornado and plane crashes, as well as terrorist attacks”. (p418). Other factors are personal stressors and can be caused by events such as a divorce, death or a loved one or the loss of a job. (Feldman, 2009). The

Common symptoms of stress include chronic fatigue, changes in appetite, drug and/or alcohol abuse, difficulty sleeping, body aches, and changes in emotions (Cooper 1-2). And although stress is something that is inevitable, it can be controlled. Just about everything we do today creates stress, both good and bad.
