Questionnaires and surveys are useful for determining the attitudes, characteristics, profiles, beliefs from a sample of people. In designing a questionnaire that focuses on open ended questions the main concern should be on determining the way the responses will be quantified.
Open ended questions are often used in research to clarify closed questions or as a means of generating ideas. In both cases it is generally assumed that the longer and more detailed the response to an open ended question the better (Graziano et al, 2000). However, relatively little is known about the effect of factors such as question wording or questionnaire design on the response to open ended questions.
There is a need to ask open ended questions when the

Another idea that could be utilized is coding using a Likert type scale based on how overtly strong an idea or opinion is expressed. This method could induce bias if the person doing the interview or scoring the questionnaire has a personal preference in this idea. The research question should not be made known to the person doing the scoring in order to reduce the possibility of bias. The

sis will be performed on responses to open-ended questions on the survey (Bourque & Fiedler, 1995).
The third resource that I used is from the Office of Justice Programs/Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). A specific article titled “Intimate Partner Violence in the United States” shows a graph of intimate partner violence rates declining from 1993 to 2006. The article is quite vague, with no real description or stats stating whether or not men commit more violence against women than women do against men. “Violence between intimates is difficult to measure because it often occurs in private, and victims are often reluctant to report incidents to anyone because of shame or fear of reprisal” (S. Catalano).
A questionnaire is research which involves a number of different questions to gather information from the people who are filling it in. Questionnaires are designed as a way to find out what people are thinking. An advantage of questionnaires is that it is very practical because it is quick to collect information from the people filling out the questionnaire. Another advantage of questionnaires is that the same questions is asked to everyone filling the questionnaire out so easy to sum up. The final advantage to questionnaires is that large information can be collected. There are also some disadvantages to questionnaires which is that there is no way of telling how much though someone who is filling the questionnaire out has put it. Another disadvantage is that the person filling it out may forget what has happened to fill it out so it won’t be reliable. The final disadvantage to questionnaires is that there is no way to tell how truthful a respondent is being.
Used for responding to a prompt that calls for a 1 or 3 paragraph answer.
The participants may not have been willing to answer the questions. They might not wish to reveal the information or they might think that they will not benefit from responding perhaps even be penalised by giving their real opinion. Students should be told why the information is being collected and how the results will be beneficial. Some advantages of the methods would be that information can be collected from a large portion of a group.
There are many techniques to asking a question. Open ended questions where we are wanting many details from the person or closed ended questions where we simply just need a yes or a no answer. Funnel questions are where we need to weed out and focus on finding the exact information we are looking for. We need to Probe the person and really think about what we are asking for in hopes of getting a specific answer. There are also rhetorical questions where we don’t really need an answer at all. When asking a personal question it is extremely important to be considerate and use the proper method of questioning to get the best result. When we know the person is sharing something of a personal nature we want to ask an open question where they feel safe and encouraged to share what they feel comfortable sharing.
The strength of questionnaires is it can give an insight into respondent’s thoughts and opinions and also cost efficient as it is inexpensive.
To conduct my research I am first going to decide the purpose of my survey, which is to gain knowledge of peoples exposure to diversity and how that effects there social interactions on campus. I will then decide on the question I will ask and the type of question I will choose to use. For my particular choice of research I will chose to do a combination of open end and multiple choice questions. I choose the combination of the two because I would like to be able to get a more personal response and allow respondents to express their with the use of the open end questions, and having multiple choice questions just to get a view on how they feel about specific topics. To help strength my multiple choice answers I will use the lickert Scale because the structure will give my participants realistic answers to my question but not necessarily put words in their mouth. I will then decide what to ask in my survey that will give me the answers to my research question. When coming up with the question I must avoid putting my opinion in the questions and make sure in my questions the answer that I am trying to discover is clear.
I think we have all had to deal with open-ended question multiple times in our lives and I personally hate survey questions like that, especially if I’m being forced to take the survey. A number of people would rather select and answer from what has been provided or choose the option “other” then to have to elaborate on our own response. Also with open-ended questions there are never the exact same answer so when it comes down to collecting the data and calculating the answers it is a lot more difficult because the answers could be easily misinterpreted or difficult to categorize.
Data was collected during the online survey and added to a spreadsheet. The order of questions were given in the order provided below in a open-question model with room for comments
Distinctive Features of Near Death Experiences It is estimated that only 5% of the population will have a NDE, this being a time when an individual is pronounced clinically dead but for some reason survives death and lives to try explain why and how they had this experience. Experiences like this are usually life changing. NDE are the link between whether there actually exist a separation between the physical body and the soul this is because the features of NDE’s are purely personal and take place in an individuals mind; there are no signs from the physical body that this experience has ever taken place. Dr Raymond moody paid a great interest in these experiences and by interviewing people who had

That is to say, they cannot design a holistic and comprehensive questionnaire to gain a comparatively high quality result. In their design of GPI questionnaire’s question, they repacked the each question with obvious sentences to deliver clear ideas to contributors. However, the questionnaire is not a mandatory filtering mechanism as an important examination. Those changes may affect their contributor’s social desirability so that overestimated scores may be reported. (Glass & Westmont, 2014). In addition, their completeness of question is doubtable. According to their questionnaire, they just design two items rather than comparatively detailed questions. When people try to answer a general question, they will recall all blur memories and combine their all experiences with similar general situations so that they will give an obscure answer. As a consequence, the evaluation of participators responses will not be accurate. Obviously, those effects lead to a biased simple and affect the completeness of test. Furthermore, the questionnaire is made in English. Nevertheless, the international
