The View is an ABC afternoon talk show that discusses a variety of topics. The host and co-hosts are Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Raven Symone, Candace Cameron Bure, Michelle Collins, and Paula Faris. On The View (S19) panelists discussed Donald Trump’s declaration on his vice presidential short list. The claim is that Trump needs a well-placed and effective choice, like Condoleezza Rice (Rice).
The discussion did not answer if a well-placed choice will change voters’ minds, except in Whoopi Goldberg’s last comment that it’s a vicious cycle and no one knows. Supporting Rice as the effective running mate is Paula Faris’ pre-show Twitter poll where Rice got the most votes. Comments noted Rice is well-placed in that citizens know her, she has government

The panelists explicitly speak of Rice as the effective running mate. The conversation implies implicitly that without a Rice-like running mate, Trump will not win Libertarians and other no-Trump voters.
Panelists’ state Trump; albeit, charismatic, does not have government experience. His running a TV show, but not the whole hour, suggests ineffectiveness. His hiring of intelligent women since the 1980s, suggests support for a Rice-like woman running mate and more comments support Rice as effective and cite her background as reasons. The reason for Rice as the choice is her domestic and foreign government work, intelligence, race and gender.
Whoopi Goldberg rebutted Joy Behar’s use of charismatic with her saying “who?”, and Joy Behar saying “Trump”.” Also rebutted is Trump having trouble with Rice because she is a woman, with Raven-Symone’s comment on Trump hiring women since the 1980s. The point on Trump as ineffective and Rice as the solution did not get debate. Whoopi questioned his effectiveness because his name may be on many buildings but one can lease a name for a building, and that we see the name but not the
Fahrenthold article titled (“Seven candidates against the man who isn’t there)”-Donald Trump lack of participation in debates on FOX news tonight, David argues it could provide an opportunity for other candidates such as Ted Cruz or Ben Carson. His excessive confidence could lead to his downfall or victory. Both authors support their claim by providing counterintuitive statements in their articles, In Fahrenthold’s article he states that Donald trump not showing up could provide opportunities for other candidates but at the same time his absence might still influence the debate. In Cillizza’s article he primarily makes a list of the winners and losers in the present race but his thought might be a little biased due to its subjective tone, and finally both authors uses humour to connect to the reader, the humour used is to keep the reader engaged and releases tension. Cillizza and Fahrenthold’s purpose is to challenge and confront the reader and the candidates themselves by pointing out their weaknesses and ways for them they could improve, in order to provide the United states with a well equipped candidates/presidents for
Rice tweeted that Tillerson is an "excellent choice," while Rumsfeld tweeted Trump is "assembling an accomplished and able cabinet."
Christie — a potential running mate — said he believes Trump has the best chance to beat Democrat Hillary Clinton in the fall election; the New Jersey governor also defended Trump against attacks by Republicans Rubio and Cruz, saying that "desperate people do desperate things."
On November 8th, 2016, the United States will finally have its presidential election for the 45th President of the United States of America. This election will be a grating race between a number of political parties and their respective nominees. Two parties are more notable than the others, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. The Democratic Party has a well-known nominee; Hillary Clinton, who has served as secretary of state, and has been the senator of New York, she has also been the first lady of the U.S while her husband, former president Bill Clinton was in office (Hillary For America). Mrs. Hillary Clinton is mainly a candidate for president because of her experience and great attributes. Alongside Clinton is Mr. Donald J. Trump, who is the respective presidential nominee for the Republican Party. Donald Trump is a well-known billionaire real estate personnel, who rose up to his status due to his great business intellect (Donald Trump Biography). In like matter, there are other nominees for president; however, Trump and Clinton are the two that are most significant and one if not the other will eventually overtake the position as President of the United States. Both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are formidable
Condoleezza Rice’s dedication is evident by her many hours of work per day. Not only does Rice stay with her ridiculous schedule but, she always puts her duties first. Rice tends to only put most of her time towards her job, not her personal life. Once Condoleezza Rice settled in as secretary of state, she began to looking at her job in a whole new perspective. For instance, she works hard to keep her private opinions to herself so she can keep her image as an enigma (First Black Women to Hold Post). Whether Rice is working as a ‘Spokesperson’ or Bush’s ‘Eyes and ears’ she serves solely as intermediary, never as an
Jessica, I would like to first say that you did a excellent job on your discussion forum. In your forum, you gave great details about the Hull House Movement and how Jane Adams was a contributor to history. Jane Adams built a foundation for Americans so that poverty would be reduced, and individuals were treated fairly. Gross (2009), described the Hull House that begin as an experimental social work. The Hull-House gave a solution to the nation’s urban population problem, because it was designed for immigrant’s rights, labor reform, juvenile justice, public housing, and health care (Harris, 2011). On September 2010, the house was renovated in honor of the 150th anniversary of Jane Adams’ birth (Harris, 2011). Community development bridged the
Combined with her years of participation in the political process, including working on various Presidential campaigns, being a former First Lady for eight years, being exceptionally involved with the functioning of the Presidency and having served as the Senator from New York as well as Secretary of State, her knowledge and paramount experience tower over the other potential contenders for the office of the President. One thing is certain, the upcoming Presidential election will be one of the more fascinating political contests in recent Presidential
Obama won on minority votes. He only won 39% of the white vote in 2012, and presumably Hillary Clinton would have greater support amongst white voters; since she quite frankly does not look like the president. As it stands now according to a WSJ poll, the Secretary has slightly lower favorability numbers than the president among white voters (Zitner). But, this question is being asked in the vacuum of yes or no favorability of one candidate, contrary to Election Day where voters would be picking between her and someone else. In that case the Secretary should pick up white women voters who would prefer her to the GOP candidate. However, she cannot focus on picking up white votes at the expense of minority votes. The Black vote in
This year’s presidential election has been riddled with controversy and drama. The two presidential nominees, Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump, each have questionable acts. As voting time approaches and the debates come to an end many individuals must decide who is fit to run the country. By considering their backgrounds, verifying the validity of their policies, and brining into consideration their performance in the debates, a suitable president should be found.
She was the most qualified Politician to run for president in 2016. She was known as a political veteran because she had been battle test as former secretary of state. Her opponent Donald trump seemed unelectable compared to her by normal standards. His victory was surprising to America. His ace was Kellyanne Elizabeth Conway. Donald trump fired two men who ran his campaign before Conway. Conway was on the news almost every single day to sort out the slip ups Hillary's opponent would often make. Conway's strategy was vilify Hillary as much as possible. She was great at conceiving voters that voting for Trump was voting for damage control. Conway's Trump campaign was a witch hunt for Hillary. She succeeded in defeating Hillary. Hillary's campaign lost by less than one percent in 3 key swing states. Her loss was less than Jill Stein's votes, which hovered around one
Donald Trump has been endorsed by some prominent political figures. In January, former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin openly gave her support for Trump’s campaign. Another surprising endorsement came from former GOP candidate and New Jersey governor Chris Christie. In late February, Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, openly gave Trump his presidential bid. Sessions endorsement became a major disadvantage to Ted Cruz. The most controversial endorsement came from former GOP candidate and neurosurgeon Ben Carson on March 11th. Out of all his endorsements, the support from Carson is a huge asset to Trump. According to the Public Policy Polling, Ben Carson was voted the most broadly popular Republican before announcing the suspension of his campaign. Carson has played a vital role in Trump’s campaign by vocalizing the need for the GOP leaders to unite behind Trump if elected the nomination. (The Washington Post). According to Politico, the other major endorsements that have influenced the success of Trump includes former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, the President of Liberty University Jerry Falwell, TV personality Willie Robertson, sheriff of Maricopa County Joe Arpaio, California representative Duncan Hunter, The National Border Patrol Council, New York representative Chris Collins, NASCAR CEO Brian France, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, and The New York Observer Editorial Board. Arguing her views in “The Glass Ceiling in Politics needs to be Shattered”, was Marie Cocco stating how women’s roles in politics still need a major improvement. Bernard mainly concentrates on Hilary Clinton and Sarah Palin’s role in the 2008 election, while Cocco focuses primarily on the role women play in politics in general. Bernard suggests that women are moving up in the political world when she states “There are no positions that women cannot fill” (Has Been Shattered”, par 3.). On the other hand, Cocco is suggesting that women are in the same spot as they have for years when she states “…they both banged their heads—hard—against the ceiling. Both were bruised. So was the goal of advancing women in political leadership” (Needs to be Shattered”, par. 2). Both Bernard and Cocco feel strongly about their views on the glass ceiling. However, despite their opposing views, common ground is able to be found. Both women strongly agree that it is time for women to step up and be treated
In Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, the scarlet “A” is a predominant symbol throughout the novel . This iconic marker becomes the center of this transcendentalism piece. Although the physical characteristics change, the underlying implication remains constant. The different forms it acquires leads to the same interpretation of this shaming insigne.
The article, “Digital Literacy Is the Key to the Future, But We Still Don’t Know What It Means,” is written by Marcus Wohlsen. He writes his article, to explain to the public what digital literacy is. Wohlsen knows that the increasing there is an increasing usage of technology in the public life, and to adapt to this they are going to need to be literate is using it. In his article, he explains to the public what this literacy is, and how much one needs to be literate in technology. Wohlsen effectively uses multiple viewpoints of experts and relatability to engage the reader and explain to them what digital literacy is all about.
My issue of the background is that one opinion of the story the Execution. Is that the author states he doesn’t agree with Ted Bundy execution along with he doesn’t agree with the death penalty. He quote the (The death penalty and I…have nothing in common) nor does he agrees with such laws of capital punishment. His overall purpose was to inform that he does not agree with execution of Ted Bundy. He sees capital punishment an immoral as quoted (I think the killing of one human makes no sense and is inherently immoral). The author opinion is agreeable with mine.
