Scarlet Benoit set out to find her grandmother who had been kidnapped for weeks. Walt Masters wanted to warn Loren Hall that stampeders were planning to steal his claim. Farah Ahmedi undertook the mission to escape Afghanistan with a prosthetic leg and her mother. However, all three fought to better the lives of themselves and/or others. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer is a story about a young girl named Scarlet Benoit setting out on a journey to Paris to save her grandmother with the help of a man named Wolf. When they reached the gate it was closed and Farah, her mother and so many other people didn’t want to be stuck out in the open desert, so they started to join the others in “pushing and shoving and jostling up against that gate”. (Ahmedi p 1) Once they realized that it would do no good Farah and her mother retreated to the back and spent the night in the desert. Farah realized the next morning that “Money changed hands, and the guards then let those people quietly through a small door to the side.”(Ahmedi p 5) Some of the guards were letting people through on bribes. However, they had little money, and the money that they did have they needed on the other side of the border. They were camped by a nice woman who had a husband checking out a goat path that could get people across the border. When Ghulam Ali came back he heard the story of Farah and her mother.”Ghulam Ali took pity on us. “Yes, of course you can come with us,” he said” (Ahmedi p 9) He had agreed to help them and lead them across the border. On the journey Farah’s mother asthma kicked in, ”we could have gotten over in little more than an hour if not for my mother.
