O’Brien is interacting with his audience by saying the word “you” at the beginning of the passage. When he says, “I want you to feel what I felt” (O'Brien 171), it is making a personal connection between the reader and the author. The goal of these paragraphs is for O’Brien to tell the readers the difference between his happening-truth and story-truth. In a way, it is kind of a confession to his reader. A confession about how he may not be describing exactly what or whom he saw, but instead is saying something to fill the holes in his memories. With the words he is using like faceless grief and then going on to the harsh details about the body, it shows the contrast between both versions of the story. To help show the difference between

phone. Later, once I arrived home, I found out my best friend was murdered. Ebaneke did not make it through being a Domestic Abuse victim, she did not survive. The entire months I was out of communication, she was looking for me. I was going through all this harassment, abuse, and I could not hear her. I was so stressed that I could not think. Her family was even looking for me, but I put my all into her murder case to help close it. I suffered a great deal of loss dealing with this matter because domestic abuse has forever changed me. I no longer see Arkansas, especially Little Rock the same anymore. I am afraid to come to Little Rock because of the fear of running into him. Understanding the documentation system and comfortably documenting treatment sessions was one low I had in the beginning of the rotation.
As I placed the car into park, turned the key off and stepped into the crisp cold winter air, I begin to feel my pulse raise. With each step we took drawing us closer to the door, I felt my heart beating faster. With a quick turn of the ice cold door knob, I found myself standing in a whole new world. The food, the music, the faces, the language, everything was different than what I knew. For the first time in my life I was the minority in my small home town of Winamac, Indiana.
