Let me know if you need more food. You want another sandwich? How about some extra milk? I don’t want you to starve’ “ (37). Still no matter how hurtful the comments, he handled them calmly and didn’t fight back physically or verbally. When Mawi got older and matured from the fights that he used to get into at recess, he encountered more hurtful verbal bullying. This quote is an example of the hurtful verbal bullying, “ ‘By then, though some of my classmates had discovered the best way to hurt me-not with their fists, but with their words: Your father doesn’t even work does he? How come you wore that shirt again? Nerd! Why are you so poor?’ “ (110) By keeping an open mind, I think made Mawi stronger as a person. Growing up from a young child to a mature adult, Mawi learned how to contain his anger and not lash out at the bullies. With the bullying challenges that Mawi encountered as he grew up, he didn’t let them get to him. He continued to not give up, but to work hard so he could get the best

Aside from religious and ethnic challenges he faced, being able to learn from what his parents experienced while they were growing up helped to shape the way he is today. Growing up in areas that were not ideal and moving to a better place, was one manner his parents were able to help ensure that he would be given better opportunities than they had. This allowed him to make the decision to leave his parents and join the military. Which, while rough, has given him his present situation.
More than half the refugees around the globe are under the age of 18, even though children make up 31 percent of the world’s population. Refugees are people who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disasters. The stories that will be covered in this essay are called “The Teacher Who Changed My Life,” by Nicholas Gage and the second novel is “Letter to a Young Refugee from Another,” by Andrew Lam. These stories have many differences between each other but they both left their country to America. What if you had to flee your country?
Imagine your friend is being bullied at school in front of you, but you do not speak up. We usually notice a lot of circumstances where students have the fear of standing up in front of a huge crowd or defending themselves. One should feel comfortable defending and/or advocating for their own ideas in the classroom. To express your opinion and yourself is critical to learning in the classroom. In Carlo Rotella’s article, “Silent Students Shortchange Themselves, and Others,” Rotella encourages students to speak up because they have useful thoughts that benefit the class. This is crucial, especially with bullying, in which those who are bullied need encouragement. Students should be assertive to speak up and stand up for themselves against bullying

I am sure every sixth-grade class had at least one kid who was the focal point for bullies. The class was a place for bullies to be in “their own spot”.
