Imagine your friend is being bullied at school in front of you, but you do not speak up. We usually notice a lot of circumstances where students have the fear of standing up in front of a huge crowd or defending themselves. One should feel comfortable defending and/or advocating for their own ideas in the classroom. To express your opinion and yourself is critical to learning in the classroom. In Carlo Rotella’s article, “Silent Students Shortchange Themselves, and Others,” Rotella encourages students to speak up because they have useful thoughts that benefit the class. This is crucial, especially with bullying, in which those who are bullied need encouragement. Students should be assertive to speak up and stand up for themselves against bullying …show more content…
I believe schools should be free of bullying because it is a place where we need to study and build fundamentals for our future. Bullying damages the bullied individuals emotionally, academically, and intellectually. I know this from a personal experience, I suffered from bullying for about three years in high school, and I know how it feels to be bullied and to be afraid to assert myself. The bullies used to bully me by calling me “ugly” and “stupid” and many other phrases…I used to hear these negative words and phrases daily. It even affected my academic performance, and I used to tell myself that it is okay, I am not the only one who has been through this and not survived. Plus, I was scared if I faced them and tried to defend myself, it will be worse, so I used to deal with it by silence. It stopped when I decided to speak up about it to my teacher. After talking to my teacher, who took care of the problem, nobody bothered me after that day. If I had not spoken up and stood up for myself that issue would have never been solved. This example shows the significance for students to speak up for themselves to solve their own problems. Consequently, we should never hesitate to assert ourselves and ask for help if we have an
Bullying is very bad and because of this about 160,000 of 13,000,000 kids stay home so they don’t get bullied by anyone. Also out of that 13 million 2,000 commit suicide because of the harsh bullying. Since many kids around the world are being bullied schools have been starting an anti-bullying system which brings bullies down by 15%. When kids reported bullying 80% of it is name calling, 39% is hitting or shoving, 38% is threats, 29% is rumor spreading, etc. Everyone should always remember one rule and that is the golden rule, the golden rule is to treat others how they want to be treated, but some bullies just don’t understand so they make everyone feel bad about themselves.
Recently Detroit has been publicly experiencing a lot of issues within the city, which has cause many people to speak out on the matter. Alex Johnson was no different, He wrote in article called “No Water, No Teachers: Behind Detroit's Surge, Old Problems Stubbornly Persist”. Throughout the article Johnson discuss the harsh reality of living in Detroit and the affect it has on the community. As I read this article I felt empathic for the people of Detroit because no person deserve to be without water or a stable education. Overall I felt that the article was a cry for help and that the government really needs to step up and help.
In the essay “How the Schools Shortchange Boys”, author Gerry Garibaldi addresses the concern of boys’ behaviors in school. Garibaldi first starts out by stating the feminist complaints that girls were “losing their voice” in a male-oriented classroom have precipitated the school’s establishment to be more in their favor. This has led to boys becoming increasingly disconnected inside the classrooms. Garibaldi claims that “only 65 percent earned high school diplomas in the class of 2003, compared with 72 percent of girls.” He continues by mentioning about how girls are outnumbering boys on most university campuses in the country.
Altogether bullying is not nice and shouldn't happen in any schools, and we must put a stop to it.
In this era of global economic stress, Lieberman encourages students to go follow their passions and go to college. even though they may not get the job they desire in the start of their career not to give up. In Lieberman’s article Stop Scaring Students, one of her main ideas is that college helps students develop basic life skills. Lieberman proves that she truly believes in healthy dose of learning because she states that “All students need a healthy dose of learning opportunities that build the skills and capacities that will support them as their professional and personal lives unfold.”(Stop Scaring Students) Lieberman believes that all students young and old should get a strong education so students can build their skills in college for
The process of educating always connects with the financial issue and learning consciousness which is the root of why the American’s educational system is separate and unequal. In short essays “idiot nation “and “against school”, by Michael Moore and John Gatto, depicts the failure of the educational system as well as how politicians’ neglect makes the system even more vulnerable in order to cripple and influence students’ mind to implant obedient adaptive function. In the short essay“ from social class and the hidden curriculum of work” and “still separate, still unequal”, by Jean Anyon and Jonathan Kozol, represent the differences in the school’s courses between working-class, middle-class, affluent professional and executive elite school,
The fact that school related deaths have decreased dramatically since 1992 to 2010 is a sign that schools have taken the right steps to keeping their students safe. But the percentages of students who say they have been bullied is astonishing. 32% of students say they have been made fun of, pushed, spat on, had rumors spread about them, or have been cyber attacked, etc. and to me that is a frightening statistic. I think that schools need to have stricter bullying policies put into place.
A professor, for the most part, is usually the one in charge in the classroom. They help lead and guide discussion while ensuring that all involved feel safe and free to share their thoughts without backlash and unnecessary criticism. Professor Deidre Cobb-Robert (2011), a professor at the University of Southern Florida, tells a different tale. She tells the story of a young man who, within her own classroom, subtly caused disruption and diminished her authority through his actions, citing safety for his reasons for doing so. He told this teacher and administrators of this school that he felt uncomfortable with and felt attacked during discussion, and, eventually, that he felt unsafe in the class and required security presence to attend class.
In order to fully explain differentiation it is important to turn to The National Curriculum and look at what has become known as the ‘general inclusion statement’. This statement contains a statement that defines inclusion as “a demand on teachers not to ignore the three principles of inclusion (below) in their planning” Session 1 / Inclusion, the individual and the environment. In short, these three principals are: To set suitable learning challenges, to respond to pupil’s diverse learning needs, and overcoming potential barriers to learning and assessment for individuals and groups. In other words teachers are expected to develop lessons
Bullying has been an issue in our schools for significant periods of time. As a teacher, I believe it is our responsibility to decrease this issue and to prevent it. There are many ways that a teacher could address bullying in the classroom. One way is by talking to the class about the issue, explaining that it hurts the victims feelings and it could lead to the victims death, making the bully feel responsible for the death of the victim for the rest of their life. The teacher could also expose videos from the victims point of view, of how they feel and how they see the bully. Having so many bullies in our schools, I belive is complicated to completely diminish the problem. Even though there are many obstacles in overcoeing bullying,it is not
“Bullying remains one of the largest problems in schools” 1. I personally like the idea that bullying should be left to schools instead of parents to deal with it. Some reasons are that the school can hire staff to investigate bullying, schools can form ways to avert bullying, and ways to deal with bullies.
What if you were terrified to go to your school every day? 160,000 students miss school everyday because they get bullied and are scared of what will happen (“Bullying Statistics”). Bullying has been a major problem in schools for too long. Students should not be scared to go to a place that is supposed to be safe and where they can express themselves. Students that bully never get the punishment they deserve which causes them to continue to act. When you go to school, you should know that if you are getting treated in a horrific way, the people who were treating you that way will get punished. Students who bully should be suspended from school.
Every seven seconds, one unlucky child is bullied. Students and other children are bullied because they are different than others. Students or others might become a bully because they might have been bullied themselves. Bullies are worse than bystanders because they are the blame for suicide, make students feel weaker, they can lose the trust of family and friends, and they make people feel hopeless. Hopefully one day in the future there will be a stop to bullying so that every seven seconds, no child is bullied. That's a future that many will look up to.
It is really amazing how excited students get with the possiblity of using the computer in the classroom to assist them with their lesson. The teacher added that she uses it as a reward system, stating how affective it is in maintaining order and control in the classroom. Students knew how to navigate, go to various websites that were related to the lesson and create a folder in which to put their assignments in.
The bullies in schools never think they will get severely punished, so they don’t stop. They think that they won’t be caught and that bullying isn’t a huge deal, but it is. Bullying causes students to not go to school, to feel alone, and to leave their school feeling worthless. If the bully were to be suspended, he/she would learn quickly that what they are doing is wrong in so many ways. They will realize that bullying can be the reason they don’t get into their dream school or do something they love. On the other hand, victims of bullying don’t come forward and voice that the have been taunted, teased, and tormented because they don’t think the school will help them. 67 percent of students feel that their school doesn’t hear about their bullying and doesn’t do anything that will prevent it (Soard). A great number of bullies in schools go unnoticed because of this which will in turn, make them continue to do these hurtful things. Punishments that bullies receive are not harsh enough and need to be reconsidered if we want a change in our lives.
