Believing that they were his biological parents, when Oedipus found out about his fate, he ran away and arrived in Thebes. Unbeknownst to him, his real birth place. Throughout the whole story, Oedipus is surrounded by all these obvious coincidences, but is oblivious to everything. The truth was right in front of his face throughout the story and he either was too naive to see it

Once Oedipus finds out the truth regarding his birth and parents he has to come to realization that the course he so desperately tried to avoid came to pass. He killed his father and married his mother the fate the gods had in store for him ultimately came true. Although he tried to change the outcome by fleeing the parents he thought was his parents. Oedipus lacked the insight as well

As soon as you started reading anyone could tell that Oedipus thought he was perfect and nothing or nobody could dethrone him. But no matter how hard you try you can't escape destiny. When he was a baby his parents found that his destiny was to kill his father and marry his mom. They made the decision to send him to die. He was tie up just waiting to die when a Shepherd walk by and saved him. The shepherd took him to King Polybus and Queen Merope , they took care of him and he always thought they were his real parents. But you can never escape destiny. Which is why he went started as a hero but later on became a villain.

His fate was learned by his father Laius and mother Jocasta so they binded Oedipus’s feet and left him stranded to die. He was then taken in by an adoptive family and raised till manhood. Once older, Oedipus learned his fate, he left his home thinking that his adoptive parents were his original parents. Oedipus followed his fate, but it was pushed by smaller freewill decisions. When he first arrived to Thebes, he was encountered by a traveling caravan that engaged in a road rage in which Oedipus ends up killing Laius not knowing that Laius is his father.

He has good intentions, but he unwittingly carries out a part of his downfall by returning to Thebes, where his real parents live. Oedipus’ misfortune continues when he recognizes that the stranger in the chariot he killed could have been his father: “‘I killed them all. But if a relationship/ existed between this stranger and Laius,/ What man now is wretcheder than I?’” (787-789). At the time, Oedipus has no idea who this rude stranger on the path is.

In the beginning, Oedipus does not believe in the prophecy made by the gods. His belief showed disrespect to the gods. Oedipus ran away from Corinth to avoid the beliefs from the prophecy which was told, Oedipus will kill his father and sleep with his mother. The prophecy strongly made him not believe in it and be fearful of his actions that may become true.

The people of Thebes was relied on Oedipus, as their king to resolve that issue but he just decided to leave. His actions of deciding to flee was based off his personal emotions. Oedipus should have thought more about the people that relied on him as a

At this point in the play Oedipus presumed he was going to find that he came from a lower class background “However vile! However base it be, I must unlock the secret of my birth” (1077-1078), which would alter his willingness to continue with the line of questioning. Despite this, he was still actively pursuing the truth, showing many fundamentally human qualities that were portrayed with a realistic tone to it, as a significant part in our lives in devoted to finding out who we are and how we fit into the bigger picture. The impact that this has on the audience is strong as the curiosity-stimulated quest that the characters travel on is one of the main forces pushing the plot

In Oedipus the King, Sophocles uses his protagonist, Oedipus, to explore his pursuit of knowledge, which leads to his tragic destruction. Oedipus is a favorable king who is determined to end the curse that has been brought upon the city because the murderer of his predecessor, Laius, still lies in the city. Ironically, Oedipus delivers the curse to the city because he murdered his father, Laius. Oedipus’s desire to gain knowledge and bring the murderer of Laius to justice, results in his downfall, which causes the people around him to be greatly affected as well.

Fate is something that just happens. There is just nothing one can do to change it, and at times trying to change it can make one even closer to that fate which they are trying so hard to avoid. In a scene in Oedipus, the main character of the story is taken away from his real family at birth and is given to another family, and lives his whole life not knowing that whom he thought was his father was not actually his father. He is told one day of a fate that he is going to kill his own father.

During the story Oedipus Rex you get to see Oedipus’ fall out. Oedipus was cursed at a young age because a man that could see the future told his parents that if they kept him alive it wouldn't turn out in their favor. They told a shepherd to to take him high up on a mountain and leave him for dead. The shepherd just couldn't kill a newborn baby boy so he made the decision to give him away to a man. This man brought Oedipus to the king and queen of Corinth. From there, they raised him and never told them he wasn't theirs. In the future one day Oedipus went and got a prophecy who told him the same thing his parents were told when he was a baby. In belief of his true parents being the king and queen of Corinth, he leaves the city so he won't kill them. Ironically, in an effort to save his parents, he is doing the exact opposite. After this occurs you begin to realize Oedipus’ true flaws that lead to his downfall. He is a bad tempered, selfish, stubborn and hubris man. Every criticizing remark, he overlooks, which leads to his downfall.

While he was trying to avoid his fate by getting as far away as possible from where his parents lived he was confronted by a few men on the road who commanded that he get off the road. When Oedipus chose not to listen to the men there was a scuffle and Oedipus ended up killing every single one of the men. In doing this, he was unaware that he had just killed the king of Thebes, his father. Unknowingly Oedipus then went on his journey to solve the riddle of the Sphinx and after doing so he became the king of Thebes, and then having four children with the queen. By doing all of this he fell in the trap of what was told to him as his fate. If Oedipus would have known his parents beforehand he most likely would have been able to avoid this fate, but it was ignorance that caused him to fail. At least once in their lifetime, everyone will hear something that they do not necessarily want to hear. A person’s natural instinct is to deny information they do not like or that contradicts their beliefs. In the Greek play, Oedipus the King, by Sophocles, the main character, Oedipus, is confronted with information that contradicts his beliefs. In the play, the three instances that Oedipus is confronted with information that contradicts his beliefs is when he is blamed for the murder of Laius, when he meets with Creon, and lastly when he was told the prophecy about marrying his mother and killing his father, and in all of these instances his attitude changes in a bad manner.

We also find that fate has led him to be ignorant of his the fact that those he considers his parents are not really his biological parents. The play portrays Oedipus as a man with much love for his family. Though he wishes to see his parents, he vows not to return to his home in Corinth for fear of falling into fate’s hands. Had he known who his parents are beforehand, he never would have slain his father and married his mother. His actions are noble and meant for the greater good however, twist of fate corrupt them, and lead him closer to his unwanted destiny. We can argue that fate has it that he comes to learn the truth about his family when it is too late.
