Not every hero can lift cars or fly; some are heroes for a much smaller reason. Odysseus is an epic hero because he went on a large journey and was a leader of his crew. Similarly, singer Taylor Swift is considered a hero because of her fame and creative song writing. Although they are both considered heroes, they have different reasons why they are considered to be one. Some people only consider Odysseus a hero since he did something big, but Other people are heroes even if they do not do anything big. Having courage, fight battles, and going on journeys are essential to Odysseus and Taylor Swift being heroes.
Odysseus has the courage to go past the sirens and not stop. ”They tied me up, then, plump amidships, sent back to the mast, and took themselves again to rowing” (The Sirens, 713).”when someone apologizes to you enough times for things they'll never stop doing, I think it's FEARLESS to stop believing them, It's FEARLESS to say "you're NOT sorry" and walk away. The quote tells you it is okay to say what is on your mind and stand up against people that do matters wrong to you repeatedly.

Likewise, Taylor Swift’s fighting often happens with other artists. Taylor has fought with artist Kanye West after West took away the time for her speech on the VMA awards. West states: "It was rude, period. I don't try to justify it, 'cause I was in the wrong.” Taylor later jokes about what happened in her other speeches for different awards. Both Odysseus and Taylor show that they have the courage to do
Imagine being a crewmate on a ship and you are being attacked by a monster and you are trying to get away from that monster. You get away but the leader of the ship keeps heckling the monster and the father of the monster then gets angry and attacks. You and the rest of the crew are either dead or badly wounded. Like this hero, Odysseus shows these traits in the Odyssey. Odysseus is the opposite of a modern hero because he is full of himself, he always gets into bad situations and is not loyal to his men.
When Odysseus encounters the sirens, he comes up with a plan to help them escape them. In “Book Twelve, line 142,” Odysseus says, “Friends, have we never been in danger before this? More fearsome, is it now, than when the Cyclops penned us in his cave?... Did I not keep my nerve, and use my wits to find a way out for us?” Even in danger Odysseus is able to keep himself together and lead his men. Homer, in this, shows us that a leader needs to be brave in all times, always ready to take control and calm his men. Before Odysseus returns home, his wisdom is shown once again when his men don’t listen to him, because of this, all his men die and Odysseus returns
In Book Five of The Odyssey, although Odysseus is royal, he is even more poor.
“Hard times don’t create heroes”. It is during the hard times when the ‘hero’ within us is revealed.” by Bob Riley The story is about the protagonist's journey and challenges as he faces various obstacles on his way. In The Odyssey, Odysseus tries to return home to Ithaca, but he faces numerous obstacles and setbacks along the way, showcasing his resilience and cunning nature.
Imagine being alive in the 1200 B.C. time era when gods and goddesses just hung around and got drunk every day. Now, that you're in the 1200 B.C. setting think about people making one mistake, or doing something wrong and being killed for it. Think of the person doing all the killing, they aren't someone who has escaped from a mental institution, but a well known and loved person, would you still consider them a hero? Odysseus is not a modern hero because he kills a lot of people, is not loyal to his wife, and he was not a very nice guy overall. One way that Odysseus does not fit the mold of a modern hero is how he kills many people.
A Hero is someone who is looked up to by people, does things people remember them by and does things for other people. By today’s standards, odysseus is a hero. The reason why odysseus is a hero is because he is looked up to by many people, and he has done many things people remember him by. Throughout Odysseus’s journey him and his men encountered many things for people to remember them by and look up to them.
Christopher Reeve once stated, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure despite overwhelming obstacles.” In The Odyssey, Odysseus tries to return home, but he gets interfered with by the gods because of his pride. Along the way, he overcomes impossible tasks to return home to his wife and son. Throughout The Odyssey, Odysseus shows he is a hero because of his will to return home, protect his crew, and see his wife again. George Moore said, “A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it.”
Now Odysseus had only told his men about Circe's warning of the sirens, which quite highlights some empathy when he thinks about his men. He exploits his emotional intelligence as an ability to pave a way or a door out to safety. This quote quite remarks how much power words can really have, they can motivate you, they can hurt you. It's also in life, when you're taught to be a failure, you're gonna be thinking like a failure, and you are going to fail. Though if you put your mind to winning and think like a leader, a champion, a warrior, and a courageous hero.
The Odyssey: A Hero Against a God American author Rick Riordan once emphasized, “A hero can go anywhere, challenge anyone, as long as he has the nerve.” This discrete quote coincides with the events that take place in Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey, because of its similarity with what Odysseus, the main protagonist in The Odyssey, undertakes and experiences. Throughout the epic poem, Odysseus is faced with conflicts that are mostly accomplished by using his ability to not be subdued, his talent for being a master of war, and his hallmark trait of being a very cunning man; in spite of, provoking the Greek gods that watch above him. On the whole, the situations that demand Odysseus' cunning, unsubduable, and battle-master mind, like overcoming
Another quality of being a hero is, having courage; and Odysseus clearly conveyed this during his journey. In order to be courageous, the hero has to be fearless, meaning he has to act confident about his actions. This applies to Odysseus and the deities. If Odysseus were to appear weak, than the gods may think he's too weak for the journey and won't make it out alive. So, as a way of showing his courage, confidence overcomes Odysseus and he talks to the gods as if he were one of them. “After these years...to my harm.” (Book V, Lines 183-190). Odysseus shows no fear when speaking with Kalypso. Also, Odysseus shows more courage when he blinds Polyphemos. He humiliates Polyphemos, without even thinking of the effects. “Kyklops, you ask my honorable
Destiny is the future, unpredictable and inscrutable. Destiny is like flipping a coin, you won't know you will get a head or a tail. Destiny is like winning a lottery ticket or get hit by a car, you won't know if that is good or bad. Just like Oedipus becomes the king, but he will never know what will be his future.
In the context of Homeric Greek culture, a hero is technically someone who fought on either side of Trojan War, but in order to assess the reputation of these heroes we must analyze their respective characteristics. Odysseus is generally considered a hero because of his display of cunning, leadership, and subsequent success in his long, difficult journey. Achilles is generally considered a hero because of his unmatched dominance on the battlefield. Both enjoyed their distinct share of success, but what motivated each of them to achieve their respective success is what easily determines who is the better hero. Odysseus is undoubtedly the better hero because of his superior handling of external conflict, display of leadership, and relationship
Being a legitimate hero is not all about having the extraordinary supernatural powers commonly seen on television. Heroes are people who aid others, often putting themselves at risk to do so. They made the decision to fight, not necessarily physically, for their values. Odysseus, the main character in The Odyssey, should be considered a hero. He put his own life in jeopardy to protect his men from the supernatural threats that they faced throughout their journey. Odysseus should be regarded as a hero because he is brave, clever, and cautious.
Many beings refuse to admit that Adolf Hitler, although having unethical beliefs, was in fact a hero to his German citizens. As seen in that example, not all heroes are perfect; but they can certainly possess qualities that can qualify them to be. In Greek mythology, every man has their downfall and some warriors are more heroic than others. A superior hero that exceeds all benchmarks of heroism is Odysseus. Odysseus is a hero because he has numerous traits that deem him heroic, such as: intelligence, determination, and loyalty, especially when being compared to the renowned greek hero Hercules.
A hero is someone who has outstanding courage and recognized by others. In the Odyssey, Homer talks about the difficulties the character Odysseus faces on his way back home from Ithaca. Homer appropriately depicts Odysseus as an epic Greek hero because he is clever, wise, loyal and his helped by Athena throughout his difficulties.
