O-Net Career Analysis

Taylor Sampson interviewed Jay Welsh, current Florida Virtual School instructor in Journalism and seasoned broadcast journalist to talk to him about the career of journalism. When asked what would all aspiring journalists study and do before entering the profession he states “Number one is a great writing education. Very little is done without a script, and you are responsible for writing that script.” He also says to follow your passion “There is all types of different fields (for journalism careers). Mine was sports. For others it might be politics, fashion, wild life.” He even says every aspect of life has a journalist path. “The last thing would have to be comfortable speaking. You’re going to be in front of people. It can be a bit egotistical if you like being the center of attention; because that’s what you are.”

WIOA requires workforce boards to procure the operator of one-stop centers. The primary role of the NCWorks Career Center Operator (otherwise known as the Operator) is to ensure that services provided through the center meets the needs of customers (business and job seeker) in an efficient and effective manner. It is critical that one-stop operations are unified with the delivery of WIOA services, including WIOA-mandated and non-mandated partner organizations, to all interested job seekers and businesses in all career centers. In addition, the Operator provides management and oversight of the partnership of agencies that comprises Durham’s NCWorks Career Center.

With a passion for learning and discovery journalism is the career best suited for me. In order to learn you have to be willing to go in search of information and go through the process of analysing this information, hence, the discovery of new things not known to the public or myself. Different jobs are available within journalism majors. Choices vary from writers, editors, photographers, and editor-in-chiefs. There are many others fields of journalism including sports, news, photo, and more. It all depends on a person’s passion for the job and work ethic. If they continue with the job they have, they will slowly work up the ladder. One might even branch off into other types of journalism! It is possible that the freshman sitting in college today can be the next big editor-in-chief at a great company

The one net interest profiler assessments showed me that my top 3 skills were investigative, enterprising and conventional. Based on these 3 skills that I have I would probably chose a career in an area that I am able to use my investigative skills. A career that I have I have in mind that I am able to use my investigative skills is a journalist. The reason I would choose a career as a journalist because as a journalist, I would always have to be using my investigative skills to understand the story that I am covering and who are the people I am interviewing and are their stories believable.

For my three professional positions, I chose technical editor, grant writer, and content developer. From what I have read on reddit about a technical editor, they edit most things with the exception of news and fictions. This position includes a lot of proofreading, copyediting, and comprehensive editing. Someone mentioned the ability to read critically and analytically is an important skill to have in this profession as well as clearly expressing your ideas. As a grant writer, they do interviews on homeless people and process applications for grants and funds provided by the government, corporations, and foundations. In addition, they research, draft, and submit proposals to help organizations receive funds besides writing grants to foundations.

National Grid careers are diverse and numerous and are mostly negotiated through trade unions. 66% of the United States jobs are covered under a collective bargaining agreement and are solely for hourly employees which managerial and salary positions are not covered. They are an affirmative action company and offer a structured application process. The application process involves testing, phone and in person screenings, after job offer drug and background checks and continued training throughout employment. Their business environment is one of inclusion and diversity and strives to have solid employee engagement, high performance and effectiveness throughout the company.

You are so right about sometimes for teachers it can be a challenge when a student does not a clue what they want to do after high school. To help an educator with planning and accommodating a student with disabilities will be to reach out to a school counselor or school psychologist to help orientate a student by performing career assessments to narrowing the student’s choices. A career assessment I am very familiar with and enjoy is O*Net, because it is very similar to MBTI as you have indicated but the O*Net allows printing reports with career choices, salary ranges, descriptions, schooling or qualifications needed for a job title, and job analysis. The O*Net is a great detailed assessment that provides lots of resourceful information.

As a newly graduated M.S. student in journalism, I have at least three years' research experiences as a lab co-coodinator, as well as reporting experiences as a part-time journalist. As a highly independent person, I learnt data analyzing, strategic communication within organizational communication, while assisting professors with schoolwork as a teaching/research

When I was young, I had a lot of dream careers or jobs. Every time I watch a movie I always get inspired on doing whatever the career of the main character is. For example, after I watch a war or an action movie like the Lone Survivor or a James Bond movie, I immediately want to aspire on becoming a military soldier or a spy. It takes time and maturity to fully realize what I wanted to become. But since the beginning I know for sure that becoming a writer or any career that relates to writing is not my call to adventure. I hate writing a lot because I sucked on it. I just

The career I chose for this report is a gaming Youtuber. The reason i chose this particular job is because I like to watch lots of gaming youtubers and, it pays really well. Some examples are, Jacksepticeye, markiplier, and slogoman. All of these people are in the top twenty in the youtube subscriber count and the person on youtube with the most subscribers is a gamer named pewdiepie. The thing that I like best about the job is that (1) you get to stay home all day,(2) it takes very little money to get a Youtube channel started, and (3) you get to play video games for a living.

Sports journalism consists of a few different writing jobs. The tasks at hand faced daily by a writer, qualifications that need to be met, and opportunities with pursuing a career in sports journalism. I am focusing more on the job of a sports writer. A career in sports journalism would be a good career for me because sports are intriguing to me, I view this career as an achievable career, and the job fits my lifestyle.

I’ve thought of medical careers, a career in psychiatry, forensics, and writing. After plenty of research, experience, and self-evaluation, I think I’ve found a fairly solid fit. A fast moving, creative environment surrounded by interesting people, whilst utilizing my love for literature, a career in publishing is calling my name. Specifically, a career as an editor. Both book editing and script editing sound appealing to me, but for now I’ll focus on book editing. As an editor, I would have a working environment that suits me and appropriate skills for the job, such as interpersonal skills, language skills, writing skills, creativity, and being detail oriented. (bls.gov) Also, values that are important to me would be a focus in this career, such as independence, achievement, and recognition. A career as an editor is a fulfilling career goal because of the ability to improve communication. (Cole 2)
