“It’s my second to last year at O’Henry High, and I must say, I am very glad that my time here is nearly done. The people here are sanctimonious and rather stupid, the curriculum is inefficient, and I am not given enough time to finish my vast collection of books. How is one supposed to gather information when we spend our time being lectured on the horrors of drugs and why one should not get pregnant in high school ad nauseam. Aren’t these things common sense? Apparently not, considering the pregnancy rates and the constant smell of weed penetrating the entire school. Iy. Of course my journal entry would turn into a rant. Human interaction is not my strongpoint. Actually, I have a brilliant idea, I will take fam and I, and we will develop …show more content…
The annual Halloween Dance is being held tonight, and people, including the teachers, have been working on their costumes for months! Oh yes, tonight would be nothing short of spooky. Thea and Lucy were in the library eating lunch as usual. Thea’s lunch consisted of tea, granola bars, and a chicken salad wrap while Lucy’s lunch consisted of sushi, strawberries, and a big mug of tea. Usually their conversations included conspiracy theories, rants, and books. For most people, this would be very uninteresting to listen in on, so they were avoided for the most part. This didn’t matter to them, as they avoided most people anyways! Apart from Fam at least.
“Yes, we would all live on a mountain and each of us would have a cave home! Our homes will be connected by tunnels that go throughout the mountain, and we would use geothermal energy to keep the wifi running.” Lucy said between bites of sushi.
“Oh my gosh, that’s perfect!” Thea exclaimed. “We could raise cows on the side of the mountain and make cheese and yogurt too! I also like the idea of growing a kale garden, that way we can have plenty of vitamin
I pour the Orange Juice into the plastic cups with the lids for Britt, TJ, and Jason. I pour the Orange Juice into Sippy cups for Bree and Brandi. Lance gets the Orange Juice in his bottle, I grab my mocha and sit down to feed myself and Lance. After breakfast Britt brushes her teeth and puts on her shoes.
Chris Lilley's Summer Heights High is a highly controversial mockumentary that showcases 3 different over exaggerated characters. One of them is Jonah Takalua, a stereotypical Tongan delinquent. Many have praised his work, saying that it is a clever use of satire to convey important criticisms of today's society. However after learning about satire myself throughout this unit I have determined that Summer Heights High is an unsuitable and highly ineffective show for teaching satire in secondary school due to the high levels of crude language and stereotypical humour shown in Jonah that conceals the satirical techniques used. Jonah has been represented extremely ineffectively through the poor use of the satirical techniques of exaggerated caricature and ridicule which certainly have the potential to influence students negatively. Lilley’s social criticism of the view that all Polynesian students are seen as trouble makers, is lost by his overemphasis on the very behaviours he is satirising.
Summer Heights High is an Australian mockumentary series which uses satirical devices to depict the public school system, and its teachers and students in a negative light. The creator, Chris Lilley, portrays these subjects using stereotypes, irony, and hyperbole. The show focuses much attention on the main three characters; Hellen "Mr G." Gregson, an overenthusiastic high school drama teacher; Ja'mie King, a teenage girl doing an exchange programme from a private school to a public school; and Jonah Takalua, a Tongan troublemaker. These characters are all represented in a very exaggerated, stereotypical way, throughout the series.
Mary Flannery O’Connor was an American writer. An important impact in American literature, she wrote two novels and thirty-two short stories, and six commentaries .She was a Southern writer who often wrote in a Southern Gothic style and relied heavily on regional settings and grotesque characters(Dunne). Her writing also reflected her own Roman Catholic faith, and frequently examined questions of morality and ethics. Flannery O’Connor was a very influential writer from the American Modernism era, mainly because she effectively reintroduced the Gothic literary tradition and mixed it with the Southern literary form.
Medieval literature is involved in the school classroom for a very long time. Medieval literature is very important and even though it's old it offers many interesting stories and life lessons. There are many medieval literature works- Beowulf, the author tales, and more. The film of Monty Python and the holy grail combines all the medieval literature and satirises them all. The Monty Python film mocks and satirizes a lot of the important themes in the medieval literature. Among the many themes it satirizes, the theme of Chivalric Code and Knightly Behavior is the most prevalent. Many themes are repeated over and over again and it is easy to draw conclusions from what we read in class to the movie. Through this essay I will show these examples.
Slumbering dog, pretending that the sun’s rays warm the bones as on an August day.
It's the year 1983, and the students are protesting. Each one of those students are deprived of their beloved sugary cereal, Cap'n Crunch. The cry for Cap'n Crunch united the students of different backgrounds because they all had a common goal: to enjoy the well known breakfast cereal. Eventually, their supply meets the demand and the student achieved their goal; victory has never tasted as so sweet!
High school students spend more than eight-hours at school and are influenced by those around them, their peers and teachers. The way we aren’t thought to interpret information, we are educated to take information and shove it in our
The movies in this decade often placed special importance on the value of family and individual heroism. Furthermore, many of the themes included: service, civil defense, boot-camp and shore- leave. One of the biggest stars of war comedies in the 1940’s was Bob Hope. He starred in a number of war related comedies, including: Star Spangled Rhythm, Caught in the Draft, and They Got Me Covered. Bob Hope is probably best known, however, for the “Road” movies with Bing Crosby.
Today, mostly everyone has a television at home. Who doesn't? Yet, had we considered what effects television does to us when we spend hours watching it for a long while? Ehrenreich assertion of television are accurate because people spent their time sitting in the couch being slothful, doing nothing interesting, and spending their whole time watching tv.
The Cowboys take another hit, when they were told that the former Alabama star will sit out the first 4 games of the 2015 season for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. Seriously? I thought we were past all this. When will enough be enough that we continue to put up with all this. These guys have it so good and to risk it all is beyond me and infuriating. Should Cowboys nation be worried. We have taken on white a few "projects" i guess you could call them, but to be honest McClain was one of the ones i was least worried about, The so called "trouble makers" seem to be staying out of trouble (so far). McClain has been arrested several times since entering the NFL. For numerous things from assault to resisting arrest. Just when we thought the coast was clear and he was turning a new leaf, the ball is dropped once again.
I’m a former student of O’Connell High School, going there for almost all my years in high school. Recently I had graduated and attended Stephen F. Austin State University. Coming from a college preparatory school, I felt that I would be antiquity ready for college. But I was severely wrong about this. Leaving the school and attending my first college classes, I barely knew how to write a proper essay. I had no clue what APA or MLA format even was when asked to use it. My knowledge of things like Algebra, History and Politics and Government were vastly below what those of my peers were. In my economics, we watched American Sniper. If baffles me how the school could let teachers show movies like this, just because they chose to that day. My
Transition: With all holidays come celebrations, let’s talk about the festivities that helped shape Halloween today.
But I'm not here to state the obvious. Yes, high schoolers are mouth-breathers; no one needs to remind you of that. Rather, I'm here to gripe and complain about other people with no influence on my life whatsoever, just like a model citizen is supposed to. If you have a problem with that, reflect on your contributions to society; and when you finish scraping around your empty skull, you might just find it harder to lower the barrel this time.
High School is a life lesson to young adults for the future that is going to come their way, but school at this point is more about passing then learning. Teens often do not think straight and go to great extents for problems in their life to be thought out in a simple manner. In the short story, I’ve got Gloria M.E Kerr, develops the idea that kids will go out of there way and lie to get a better grade due to their parent’s expectations and their own. In other words, students will go out of their way to use something that the teacher has a valuable connection to for to their benefit and pleasure. The ideas in this story show; Teenagers do not think straight especially when they are irritated but think of ways where to work around into profiting
