Personal Statement for Nursing School “When you’re a nurse, you know that every day you will touch a life or a life will touch yours” – Anonymous. As I was growing up I was always interested in helping others and assisting people at the same time interested in science like the human body and how it works. Whenever my parents or friends would ask me what I wanted to do when I grow up. Without hesitation I would always tell them that I wanted to work in the hospital and be a nurse. Of course at the time I was open to many options in the medical field but I knew I wanted to be in the hospital environment. The thought of nursing didn’t get through to me until one day when my mom was in the hospital and little did I know my world be open by a nurse. I was 17 years old and I volunteered to aid my mom for the night at the hospital. When my mom would request me to do something, I would tend to her needs right away and although most of the tasks were simple, helping my mom made me feel good on the inside and every smile she gave me was a good feeling. Later that night as I was aiding my mom, a male nurse entered the room to check on my mom and he saw me assisting my mom he gave me a smile and looked impressed. I want to become a nurse not only to help people but because I saw nursing to be an opportunity to witness miracles, having a rewarding job, and to develop relationships along with nursing patients. I was lucky to have an opportunity to shadow a nurse when I came to visit a family member in the hospital. Even though I wasn’t able to do anything, I got to witness how a nurse works and how calm and poise they were when a patient needed help.
