The poem, ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’, by Robert Frost is an important part of S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders. Explain how the poem relates to the key events in the novel.

In the beginning of the book when Pony and Cherry always look at the sunset, the sun represents the gold and happiness yet every single day it goes away. In the poem, it says “So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay.” This is similar to the novel being whether in the poem or the greasers neighborhood nothing is going to stop the sun. Just like the poem no matter what, summer is not going to last forever and fall will turn winter and neither Pony nor Cherry could change that.

One of the first of terms is nature. It shows how this Scarlet Ibis who driven many miles from its home ends up dying. This is like how in the end of the story, nature ends up separating the two brothers and killing Doodle in the process. Also, the quote touches on another element that is explored quit heavily in the story, death. The line like a broken vase of red flowers can be contributed to this.

“Nothing gold can stay” (77). These wise words from Robert Frost state that nothing can stay young forever. Johnny Cade is a quiet member of the Greasers gang. Johnny’s home life is rough, his father beats him and his mother could care less about him. The Greasers are the good gang from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their rivals, the Socs, are preps who spend their time partying, or tormenting the Greasers. Throughout this story, Johnny is depicted as sensitive, selfless, and strong.

The Outsiders talks about two social classes fighting each other and what happened because of it. The poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” talks about how we need to treasure beautiful things because they can’t stay forever. The Outsiders and “Nothing Gold Can Stay” themes are about self-sacrifice, honor, and treasuring things.

Have you ever heard of the poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay’? Well, in the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, this poem is used. It ties in by explaining how none of the Greasers, really have a childhood. They grew up very fast, and didn’t have much with toys, and friendship. The Greasers have each other and that’s all.

There are six things that Nothing Gold Can Stay and Abandoned farmhouse have in common. The things that the two poems have in common are: they both involve life, change, alliteration and sadness/ loss. In Nothing Gold Can Stay it involves life because the poem is about nature. I know this because it says in the poem " Her early leaf's a flower."

Metaphor is used in both the outsiders and nothing gold can stay, because in the outsiders they relate to the poem by using this line "Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay in the gold. " As you can see, the poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” and the book “The Outsiders” connect to each other by showing how things that are cherished or valued don't last forever. In both the poem and the novel they both show metaphors and foreshadowing.

In The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, she includes the poem called, “Nothing Gold Can Stay” many times inside of the book. The more you comprehend the poem, the more you can relate it to the book. At the first sight of the quote, you probably did not have any idea why Hinton would include this quote; eventually you understand the true moral to the story and how it relates to The Outsiders itself and the characters that the novel incorporates.

Season change and so does life, so when moments are precious we should appreciate those moments.

Yet, this poem emphasizes more about the transience of life rather than the suddenness of life ending. “Nothing Gold can Stay” is about the appreciation for the golden days while the cycle of life continues and death becomes of each and every one of us.
