Trust is not everything, but it is the basis of a good relationship. Gaining trust is something that really hits home personally to me and I had lost one of my good pals, Benjie, who was the first dog I ever got to know. He died at the age of twelve, just over spring break and it was very sad to see him go. The Graphic had a very interesting effect on my writing style, toning it back but the feeling of not want it to feel comical for its seriousness. My story was broad, an overview rather than a story reflecting on the times I have had with friends. The Complete Maus by Spiegelman has the stories being shared concisely through the actions of the father but for my story, I do not follow the actions strictly of what is in the picture. Spiegelman uses the artistic ability and style to paint the picture for the emotion he wants the reader to feel. This style is much different than mine in the sense of how the reader feels throughout the novel, but mine portrays this gloomy young kid then gets much serious towards the end where I am reflecting on his life. Spiegelman keeps this gloom of black and white to not show any contrast of the war, which is how the people living during the time felt. I incorporated that idea after the dog had moved away, darkening the images and making it sad, then quickly rushing in the car and back to bright when he meets up. Finally, I am later seen depressed and shaken by the event. I did not go as far as to show the importance of the novel to be used as the medium rather than writing like in Maus we do not ever really notice the swastika showed fully, showing that it is in his point of view of the idea and also the representation of the animals as the nationalities. The use of style and meaning seem to also be a great reason to use this format, sadly this does not call for it, thus, the idea that it would be more effective writing it without the
All i gotta say is, this book is awesome!! I would rate maus a 4.5 out of 5. The book i'm reading is maus by Art, Spiegelman. This book is revolving around the author's father and his family's experiences in the days of the holocaust. The way the author drags you in by introducing you with a little family comedy is amazing i didn't really expect much out this book because for many years i've learned a lot about the holocaust and thought that i knew it all. The author goes his way explaining a different view that i never thought of. The spigelman family are jewish and the way the author goes about telling their story is by through their memories. I would always try to think what it would've been like as a jew during that time but the author opened my eyes as i was reading this book it was like learning every tragedy all over again. I reason i rated this book so high
Life isn’t fair. This common phrase rings true for the characters in A Separate Peace, a novel from 1959. The story takes place in the time of World War Two. Gene and Finny are the best of friends, but the entire book revolves around an accident where Gene causes Finny, or Phineas, to fall off a tree and shatter his leg, changing his life forever. Finny denies anything he finds negative or harmful, including the war, his injury, and Gene’s part in the accident, choosing to remain young and ignorant of since he knows he’ll be happier that way. However, Finny does eventually recognizes the facts of his life. John Knowles uses characterization to shed light on the dangers of naivete through the character Finny. Innocence causes Phineas to become ignorant of what’s happening all around him, which makes it dangerous. This becomes a problem because nobody can run away from the truth forever, and whenever all the facts of war and the accident catch up with him they will hit hard.
The historical novel Segu by Maryse Condé is set in the African country of Segu during a time of great cultural change. The African Slave Trade, the spread of Islam, and personal identity challenges were all tremendous and far-reaching issues facing Africa from the late 1700s to early 1800s. Condé uses the four brothers of the Traore family, Tiekoro, Malobali, Siga, and Naba, to demonstrate the impact that the issues of Islam, slave trade, and identity had on African people through the development of each character. The oldest of the sons, Tiekoro exemplifies the influence and spread of Islam through out Africa at the time.
Every text is made up of tremendously important parts called literary devices or techniques. In those texts, those literary devices are a necessary part, that help develop the text in a large amount of ways. In “Response to executive order 9066” by Dwight Okita and “Mericans” by Sandra Cisneros both develop the common theme of American identity by using literary devices such as, simile, imagery, and personification.
In the story of Janus, Andrea is the main character who has an odd addiction to a certain cream colored bowl. In the story, Andrea is a real estate agent who is successful with most of her clients. She strikes most of her deals by being manipulative, Andrea used her wit, so that she could attract her clients to buy the homes she sold. As the story goes on, it talks about the marriage of Andrea and her husband. At first glance it would seem successful because they were both earning money and the relationship overall looked stable, but Andrea concealed her true feelings about her marriage.
“Slaughterhouse 5”, the words echoed out of my teacher’s mouth as she declared the next piece of literature for dissection. The plot proceeds slowly, following the main character, Billy, in a cease fire during battle. Unlike any previously read novel, the main character slipped out of the present and became “unstuck in time”. Billy jumps to random events of his life, most of which he had no control. In Tralfamadore, the planet where Billy lands after being abducted, the lives of its people are predetermined. "The Tralfmadorians can look at all the different moments just that way we can look at the stretch of the Rocky Mountains." The theme of an unchangeable destiny or fate is more haunting and unsettling than anything else in literature.
Time is a lot like sunlight. It’s not unlimited. You only have so much of it before it’s gone. You should cherish it and not take it for granted. It’s just like time because you only have so much of it with your loved ones before it’s gone. Once it’s gone, you’ll never get it back. Harvey learns that in The Thief of Always. By the end of the book, Harvey learns that time should be cherished and that he only has so much time with his loved ones.
In the book Everything I Never Told You, there are many different elements and techniques used within the book. The technique that I want to go into more depth on is the use of symbolism. I specifically want to focus on the symbolism in regards to Lydia, Hannah, and Nath’s love of astronauts and space.
Art Spiegelman’s Maus uses a graphic novel style to cushion the horror of the Holocaust for the reader. It is not solely just by adapting this story to be lived through animals, but by using art as a buffer, that Spiegelman is able to adequately portray these atrocities without overwhelming the reader. Both Primo Levi’s “The Drowned and the Saved” and Georges Didi-Huberman’s “Images in Spite of All” touch on the idea that in most situations, words have a lot less power than images. Maus backs up these claims as the text (mostly dialogue) holds a lot less weight than the images in the novel. Furthermore, these three authors demonstrate that the best form of preservation is through photography.

What can literature teach me about the personal loss and chaos from life experiences from the Holocaust?
The readers are able to make connections between animal’s natural acts and social groups acts which helps them to image them in acute way. On the other hand, the other techniques that are used by the narrator are as important as allegory. In his graphic novel, he only uses black and white colors to create a nostalgic and sad atmosphere furthermore to give a specific theme, he sometimes changes their percent in frames. To demonstrate this argument, the second frame of page 35 should be examined: while many other frames have a white background, this frame and next three frames have a background which shows a black and white Nazi flag. The circle part of the flag is white and is put to the center of background like the sun.
Each word is progressively on a lower note, implanting that fear even more. " The white eyes writing in his face" uses alliteration to influence the readers thoughts even more. The 'w' sound created from white and writhing is sharp and shallow, leaving you wondering of the worst. Throughout owns piece almost all words have negative connotations in one way or another. This furthers the influence it has on you and really helps the idea that war is terrible and full of
Throughout the context of “Bless Me Ultima,” it is evident that there are many motifs and examples of dichotomy. I believe that Anaya uses the previously mentioned elements of literature in order to provoke his readers’ thinking and help embody a struggle of understanding the world we live in. Motifs in this novel include: family, dreams, religion, education, and the list continues. For examples of dichotomy, the idea of good versus evil is the most vivid in this novel.
In the 21st century, the Internet is turning over people’s perspective toward literature and is slowly making us forget the real value of it. Electronic devices like computers or TVs making people lose concentration and patience quickly. Electronic literature, however, is a great symbol of “hopeful monster”(Hayles), which can mobilize the capability that literature can do into different ways. In 2005, electronic literature called Façade was lunched and become popular. By comparing with a short story, For Esmé—with Love and Squalor by J.D Salinger published in 1950, in my opinion, For Esmé—with Love and Squalor is literature because of its cultural arguments and distinct style of writing while Façade is not considered literature because its
