Northrop Grumman as a PAC Northrop Grumman is a US based defense firm that produces many US military’s aircraft and drones. The company was founded in 1939 by Jack Northrop. The company designed and built several planes during WWII including the P-61 Black Widow of which over 700 were built. In 1962 Northrop introduced the F-5 Freedom Fighter, which is still used to this day by the US Navy and several other foreign air forces. In 1994, the company purchased fellow aerospace company Grumman to form Northrop Grumman. Today they produce and maintain many US military aircraft, such as the F/A-18 Hornet, the A-10 Thunderbolt II, and the B-2 Spirit. As a PAC, according to Northrop Grumman’s website, their purpose is to educate elected officials as to their business practices, enable their employees to support candidates, and provide “limited direct corporate political contributions to national-level gubernatorial associations and is a member of several trade associations which support its business objectives.” They also engage in public policy involving their fields such as aerospace and national defense. Of the 1.6 million dollars contributed by Northrop Grumman, 900 thousand dollars went to federal candidates. 430 thousand dollars went to national parties, and 279 thousand dollars went to committees. The rest was given to state and local elections. The largest contributions go to both the Democratic and Republican Senatorial and Congressional campaign committees. These contributions are used to finance campaigns in both parties race for seats in both Congress and the Senate. In 2016, Northrop Grumman donated 60 thousand dollars to each of the committees. They have donated as well to several high-profile individuals such as Tim Kaine, Luther Strange, and Bob
