Nonprofits represent a huge sector in the United States that includes hundreds of thousands of different organizations. Community-based organizations VISIONS and the Center for Comprehensive Health Practice (CCHP) where I conducted informational interviews represent a significant segment of a community and provide human, social and education services that help to ensure a decent standard of community living. Organizations address the issues that affect the individuals in the society as well as a community. Both organizations provide a series of charitable activities that bring improvement and create sustained social change in the community.
Both organizations are community based organizations that work at a local level to improve life for their neighborhood. Due to the fact that communities represented by these organizations are underserved, both

For example, VISIONS developed a residential rehabilitation center for blind people that can help to develop healthy habits and increase physical activity that are necessary to meet their needs and improve their quality of life. The community based organization hired about 25% people with vision loss and other disabilities. The Center for Comprehensive Health Practice provide a high level of quality family-focused care for the community (manly East and Central Harlem, South Bronx) through expert diagnosis, treatment, maintenance and restoration of each patient’s health. I enjoyed reading Chapter 11 especially what the author writes on page 281 as it summarizes the importance of a message. It keys on the relevance of accessibility, accountability, education, interaction, and empowerment. I think that is the key element of fundraising. I also believe that from a theory to reality there are some gaps. Nonprofits are often under tremendous pressure to perform with very little resources. Some nonprofits can navigate the process successfully and grow, while others do not.
To begin with, the organization I have chosen to discuss is Keystone Community Services located at 2000 Saint Anthony Avenue Saint Paul, MN 55104 along with multiple other locations. Keystone Community Services is a public organization that was established in 1939. When Keystone Community Services was first found it initial ambition was to be a neighborhood-based community in Saint Paul, Minnesota. As the growing organization expanded their services variety, funding sources was an important factor of the organization to ensure stability to keep providing great services. Keystone Community Services is financed by the business partnership, private funding, grants, and donations. Business
we see an organization that is looking to bring about change (and in particular growth). The
As an assignment for a public radio station I volunteered at, my partner and I were assigned to get sound bites. The Ralph’s in Downtown L.A. was featuring Homegirl Industries mango salsa in their deli section (Hirsch, 2009). At the event, most of the news outlets there focused on getting quotes from mayor Villaraigosa. This made it easier for my partner and I to get quotes from young adults that were part of Homeboy Industries. Through this assignment, I learned about the non-profit group and its goal to transform the lives of former gang members. This paper focuses on the non-profit organization Homeboy Industries and its contributions to the cultural region. The beginning focuses on the brief history of gang activity in Los Angeles, and
The fourth nonprofit I analyzed is called GreaterGood which is an online website that sells a wide range of products that have been made across the world and uses the profit generated by sales to donate to a variety of different nonprofits that have a specific mission (Help, 2015, p.1). The specific nonprofits that GreaterGood donates to breast cancer, animal rescue, veterans, autism, diabetes, the rainforest, and the one that is specific to my area of analysis the hunger site. This style of nonprofit expressed by the GreaterGood charity is extremely unique because of the extreme differences in charities they are partners with. With the multiple charities they work with I would be confident in arguing that the GreaterGood-hunger site is a path-goal leadership style.
The mission of Central Florida Coalition for the homeless in Orlando is to provide a home for the homeless and give them a chance to develop themselves in all aspects. The purpose of the organization is to offer a home for the homeless and take care of single mothers, children, the disabled as well as give quality education to those in need. Collaboration among organization members and community stakeholders is very important, we must begin to study and understand nonprofits not merely as organizations housed within four walls but as catalysts that work within, and change, entire systems. The most effective of these groups employ a strategy of leverage, using government, business, the public, and other nonprofits as forces for good, helping them deliver even greater social change than they could possibly achieve alone (Crutchfield, 2012). There is also an understanding that community partnerships and assistance from caring individuals will be of a great benefit to the organization and the young men they serve. The different chapters in the organization are funded through member dues, grants and contributions from corporations, foundations, individuals and combined federal
I have always been drawn to outreach opportunities that allow me the possibility of improving the quality of individuals ' lives while working towards the betterment of my community. My experiences have given me a greater understanding of the social and economic barriers that affect patients in both urban and rural underserved areas.
Over the years’ volunteers,’ services have increased tremendously. These stakeholders participate in leadership roles in nonprofit and profit groups. Volunteers exert influence in the organizational decision-making process because their particular task gives them the authority to exhibit their skills. For example, I am a board member at a local nonprofit hospital. I collaborate with other volunteers offering advice and services that help influence the hospitals' daily operation, while improving my leadership and decision-making skills in the process. Ohmer (2007) discussed that "Citizen participation" actively involve selves in developing problematical situations in neighborhoods and leading policies and programs that affect the quality of
There are several different types of nonprofit organizations, some are big and some are very small. I have interviewed an employee of a large nonprofit in the past. However, for this interview I chose a small nonprofit to gain a different perspective and to apply the organizational communication concepts we have learned in class. A career choice that I am considering, is in the field of nonprofit organizations. For this reason, I chose to interview June Early the Executive Director of Safe Alternatives For Everyone (S.A.F.E.), in Temecula, California.
Throughout my life I have volunteered for a few organizations. During my underclassmen years I volunteered at Seven Bridges Ranch throughout my summers. My responsibilities included taking care of all their horses, which meant, feeding, watering, grooming, exercising, etc. I was also kept up with some of the simple yard keep. Another great organization I volunteer for is called, 15 Forever Community Foundation. This is a foundation that gives 15,000 dollars to non-profit organizations. I have been doing this for three years, and the board members and I discuss what we want our funding focus is for the year, and then read each application, and decide who is best fit to receive the money. I have always loved being outdoors, and one of the non-profits
Competition is not unequivocally a factor in the nonprofit Community Organizing industry. This industry is concentrated on influencing positive changes in the community by unifying people and similar organizations. Certain factors can be taken in consideration to represent differences among the organizations, but very few factors represent direct competition. The differences among the organizations lie in community awareness, demographics, resource availability, capacity and financial ability.
A number of hospitals have designed innovative community building activities that engage community members while also mitigating the negative effects of poverty on health. These initiatives demonstrate a commitment to not only provide excellent service to insured and paying hospital clients, but also a recognition of the responsibility of non-profit hospitals to their surrounding communities.
There used to be a time when zoos used to be full of animals. A time when extinction was not a problem. That was the past. Today, zoos all around the world are missing many animals such as the African elephant or the dodo bird. All of these wonderful animals became extinct because we were careless enough to let them all die. World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is an organization that is trying to prevent extinction from happening. WWF is an environmental organization dedicated to “protecting the world’s wildlife and wetlands” ("World Wildlife Fund"). It is one of the largest private supported conservation organizations in the world, with support from one million members in just the United States. WWF was formed on September 11, 1961 in Morges,
