I have learned a many great things from participating in Nevada DECA in the last two years. It has helped gain experience and confidence in the business world, which changed my entire outlook on and attitude toward life. Before I joined Nevada DECA during my sophomore year, I never had the confidence to face challenges out of my comfort zone. Nevada DECA has helped change that fear of going out of doing what I am comfortable with, and began challenge other opportunities the world had to offer. My first Nevada DECA state competition was challenging, because it was something I have never done before. As my first year, I was still lack a little bit in confidence and turned away from individual events and supposedly difficult events. Instead, …show more content…
I felt the urge to win. I practiced and played out multiple role-plays repeatedly with my partner. Unfortunately, we did not win the position we wanted, which I felt very downcast afterwards, but I got over it after some time. I realized that it is not about winning, sometimes losing teaches a lot more than winning. The experiences I gained out of my two years in Nevada DECA, has brought my communication skills, confidence, and better outlook of the amazing opportunities I have. Even though, I didn’t win a medal, my same partner during the two years and I improved in my scores and have received positive feedbacks along with few negative ones, too. Instead of ignoring these negative feedbacks, I took those in consideration in how I can improve next Nevada DECA state competition. Over the two years, taking part of Nevada DECA in high school has taught me what it takes to succeed. Furthermore, it got me interested in going into Business. While doing my college research, I have found that UNLV has a place where DECA also took place, and I am excited in taking part of it as an Honor College
DECA has been an interesting experience for me, I’ve been participating in the club ever since I first shuffled into one of the meeting as a fresh faced ninth grader. I was going out my comfort zone, since business wasn’t my forte, but DECA has really turned into a formative experience for me. I learned a lot about the concepts of a subject I didn’t think I would be interested in, and I made friendships in the club – it taught me lesson about stepping out of the boundaries I set for myself to gain the rewards couldn’t, or didn’t want to, see then.
At the Novice Parliamentary Procedure Contest my Sophomore year, my team and I had to plan all of the logistics for a volleyball tournament in a ten minute and thirty second meeting. In addition, we had only one minute alloted to look over the item of business, and develop clear concise viewpoints on the business at hand. As a result, I learned quickly how to think on my feet because often another teammate would snatch up the debate I had in mind. Also, I learned how to conduct myself in a confident yet poised manner, and convey my thoughts quickly and eloquently because we were given more points if we maximized the debate scorecard. In that moment at the contest when I sat down after nailing my debate on why we should host the volleyball tournament, I peered out into the audience and saw 300 people intently looking back a me. Rather than freezing like I did as a seventh grader, I had finally overcome my stage fright. Wow, I’d really done it. In that instant, I saw a layer added to my parfait, but the layer was later turned into an onion when I found out that we received Third Runner-Up at Nationals. I distinctly remember walking back to our hotel, and I do not think that any positive thoughts crossed my mind for the rest of the week long trip. You see, no matter how well I did I always
The South Dakota High School Football Championship was an experience that I am grateful for having. During the process of getting ready for the event, I was more worried about my grade of the course compared to the success of the weekend. As each week passed on, I realized that this weekend is bigger than just a grade for a course, but it’s a dream that many children have had since they first touched a football. After I realized how selfish I was, I volunteered to lead the game script group that was part of the social media/marketing group. The reason behind that was because I believe I want to go into the marketing aspect of sports, and I thought it was easy. Now that the event is done, I still want to be in sport marketing, but I learned
It is within human nature to be competitive. While it is one of the most basic and primal instincts that has ensured our survival for centuries, today has become more for personal achievement. In movies, shows and on the internet we are constantly exposed to people competing for various reason. Athletes compete for the gold medal, game show contestants for money prizes and characters in movies for the object of their affections. When we best the challenges we decide to face, we often receive an overwhelming feeling of success along with the prize and, in turn, our confidence is boosted drastically. We are encourage to become the best versions of ourselves. However, when our attempts end in failure, we feel disappointed in ourselves and are discouraged from pushing ourselves again. In modern times, individuals often lack the motivation to challenge themselves because they fear their odds of failure. They would rather remain apathetic than even attempt to push themselves. It is essential that we have the dedication, fortitude and courage to regain the confidence to at least attempt a challenge or alter it to make it more beneficial to ourselves.
Sometimes obstacles occur and seem to mismanage important goals that we strive for. Correspondingly, as a high school student, there are plenty of opportunities up for grabs that only push me harder to work towards achievement. Being on a drill team contained great leadership roles that I was highly interested in. At the end of sophomore year, I decided to try out for drill team officer, as there were only 7 spots open and 14 candidates trying out. Unfortunately, I was not one of those 7 candidates who received a spot on the officer line. Feeling frustrated with myself, I considered that perhaps I just wasn’t a good enough dancer. This reflected my performance at practice, and I felt even more defeated.
In the survey Papantonio asks how many cases the average trial attorney will see 3 to 5 cases a year which is a low number now a days (Papantonio, 1996). Nevada deals with multiple cases simultaneously. The cases are not charged hourly instead they typically go by a flat rate to meet and ethical standard guideline. The hourly rate of the high profile trial lawyer to limit their case load. The decrease in return per client forces Nevada to see more clients as possible. He could have anywhere from 7 to 10 bankruptcies lined up on the docket. The typical chapter 7 will be resolved in 6 months and after a year the chapter 13 will be set. The typical case also only requires one 341 hearing per case. The lack of hearings allows Nevada to see
For TJ DECA students, the District competition is both an exciting and hectic experience, as they must look and perform their best against hundreds of others aiming for the same goal: State. “Before the competition I felt nervous; this was my first year competing and I didn’t know exactly what to expect,” mentioned State qualifier and senior Brandon Griffith. Griffith further explained that he combated his anxiety by preparing for his performance. He described, “I set myself up for success by going to workshops [seminars at districts that provided helpful advice for
A lesson I discovered from failure that eventually led to a significant accomplishment and learning opportunity involved an incident while competing in the high school mock trial competition at the State and National levels. From my freshman to junior year, I have spent over one thousand hours dedicating time to practicing and competing in mock trial. As an underclassman, I had minimal opportunity to be on the competing roster, yet I still observed trials and contributed my ideas to the team. As a junior, however, my two years of commitment and progress faced me with more responsibility. Throughout the year I was motivated to secure a role as an attorney. During the preliminary season (November through February), I contended as an attorney
The competition was fierce. We went back and forth, neck and neck, in and out of the lead the entire time. I was afraid that we would make a mistake and lose. I was on pins and needles. We eventually pulled ahead in the final round to claim victory. After that hard-fought win, my teammates and I realized that we needed to study harder. It was time to get really serious. After that lucky win, we decided to drill more than ever before. We worked longer and harder, so that we could be the best we could be. We took our books to the cafeteria to study during lunches. We sat in the halls before dismissal, studying and quizzing each other. We even studied together on Skype in the evenings after school. Before we knew it, it was time for the semi-final competition. This time we competed against twelve other teams. The questions were tough, but we persevered and finished on top again. We couldn’t believe it. We were going to the
I have learned a lot. I know so much more about marketing. Nonprofits is a whole new world to me. I have learned just how much we can do for one another. How volunteering and donating relieve stress, promotes others to give and even boosts any and most all companies. Every company should donate to nonprofits. The cause needs us just as much as we need them.
You require this confidence in order to prosper, in order to progress in the competitions. You then additionally need the competency of persuasion. Persuasion is key to get into the judges head because you want them to recollect you and your conception. Part of DECA is being innovative, your brain has to run on creativity when beginning your "business plan". To start off you'll pick what category to compete in such as marketing, business management/administration, finance, entrepreneurship, hospitality, tourism, team decision, and online events. Then you'll go onto your initiative plan to promote whatever you may please. First, you will need to know your audience, target market, your demographic that you will be appealing to. That's where persuasion comes into action because you are selling to those who will benefit to your promotion. These are specific skills that can be mastered while being in
To exceed expectations as a competitor you must be eager - hungry for accomplishment, for results - hungry basically to turn into the best competitor you can be. It begins with a fantasy, yet by one means or another you must be enlivened, or you will never have the capacity to achieve your objective. We frequently read about competitors overcoming physical inabilities. Spear Armstrong survived testicular tumor and won the Tour de France two times. Marla Runyan kept running in the 1500 meters of the 2000 Olympics while being legitimately visually impaired. It is out of these difficulties that competitors build up a wild, blazing longing to succeed. They have to demonstrate to themselves that they can accomplish their objectives. Through
Whilst working at these events I observed the amount of customer interaction that was required to sustain the wellbeing of the events. Moreover, the teamwork on show from the VSCC was exemplary, as continuous communication ensured that every hindrance during the day was overcome. I consider my extensive sporting past as standing me in good stead with teamwork as it has been a vital cog when developing and playing as a team in whatever sport I played. Specifically, I see playing rugby as allowing me to come out of my shell, which has seen me grow into a much more confident person, as well as ensuring that I was proactive with my time keeping which resulted in team mates and coaches being able to depend upon
I particularly led the organizing committee for the Annual Career Guidance conference. An experience that taught me couple of lessons. I learned that team members with enthusiasm and motivation for work can make up for the scarce resources and shortage. I learned that the seemingly formidable task of working with diverse personalities can be a source of success and turn into an enjoyable and interesting one; once we take a step back, let go of our ego and focus on the big
My partner was someone I could trust, and I was confident we possessed the teamwork skills required to succeed in this competition. Initially, we were absolutely clueless about DECA. It dawned on us that we would probably fail miserably on the day of the competition as we indeed did poorly on our first practice exam and orals.
