LAN stands for Local Area Network. It is a type of network that covers a greater distance and it interconnects computers and devices either wired or wireless. LAN is mainly used in private organisations such as college or university. More or less everyone uses wireless router at home these days and the user is able to connect between 5-10 devices wirelessly. The user can share the broadband or the connection with ADSL by using Ethernet cables. Smaller LANs can connect at least 2-3 computers using one cable. It also depends on the size of the organisation. Smaller LANs are easier to manage. The users need to be careful when using larger LANs and need to make sure that the network within it is transmitted efficiently. The user can increase the number of computers connected by using routers and switches. This ensures that the network administrator has higher level of control over the network. IEEE 802.3 is the wired Ethernet used by LAN and therefore it is related to LAN. The set up cost for LAN is relatively cheap. WAN stands for Wide Area Network. It is a type of network that interconnects the LANs meaning it connects the LANs together over large distance. WAN is used in school or college or in a joint network academy (Super Janet). WANs can be both public and private. Frame replay is one type of technology used by WAN. Frame relay is a standardised packet based protocol that is used for high speed data transmission to connect devices by WAN. MPLS stands for Multiprotocol
b. companies can use a Wan to connect remote locations, and a LAN can make a local connection in a building.
It is generally limited to a geographic area such as a writing lab, school, or building. Rarely are LAN computers more than a mile apart. In a typical LAN configuration, one computer is designated as the file server. It stores all of the software that controls the network, as well as the software that can be shared by the computers attached to the network. Computers connected to the file server are called workstations. The workstations can be less powerful than the file server, and they may have additional software on their hard drives. On many LANs, cables are used to connect the network interface cards in each computer; other LANs may be wireless.
LAN: Local Area Network is a network that consists the local resources. A group of PCs in an IT company are said to be in LAN, A group of devices connected to wireless network in home are said to be in LAN.
In the industries or complexes, wireless LANs helps the customers to access to the internet and they can access without any installation, giving these users wireless access to the full resources and services to industries, colleges and complexes throughout their buildings and campuses.
Only the primary and backup Network Administrator can create new accounts. The Security Administrator, Human Resources (HR), and the Help Desk will be automatically notified by the system when new accounts are created. A third-party software will be used to notify the Security Administrator, the Network Administrator, and the Help Desk of account privilege escalation, changes to the membership of Administrator Groups, and account deletions. To improve auditing, generic administrator accounts are prohibited. Administrators must use their own user IDs to access information systems. Accounts that are not used for more than 30 days should be disabled automatically and reviewed
Network around the world is connected through various hardware and application. Different types of connections are used to connect network around the world. Many organizations and companies are using different types of network connected to the internet to flourish their business related activities. Network is mainly categorized into three forms: LAN, MAN and WAN. All these network are connected together to make an entire huge network around
A LAN network (Local Area Network) is an establishment created when clients or devices such as computers and phones etc. with the right networking specifications allowing them to be connected with each other using a common connecion such as Ethernet or wireless. This establishment allows the sharing of resources from the device through the network and to the desired destination such as another device e.g. Mobile phone, pc, tablet etc. all locally within the network by Ethernet etc. In this scenario the LAN network is used for gaming where two computers connected to the same network are trying to connect with each other to allow an established connection between the two allowing data to be shared, effectively creating a game server. A user will mainly use a specific LAN to share data between clients by pairing them together.
Local Area Network or LAN is nothing but local setup for interconnection between two or more number of computers and peripheral devices. Devices like printer, desktop, laptops, plotters, scanners and faxes. LAN is limited area access network around one kilometre range such as office- building, home, laboratory, schools using network media. Today’s
Business infrastructures usually consist of booth LAN and WAN area networks. Businesses will use a LAN to connect network devices over a short distance, such as an office building or school. Occasionally one building will contain a few small LANs, and sometimes a LAN will span a group of nearby buildings. LANs are usually owned, controlled, and managed by a single person or
Local Area Network connects the computer hardware (i.e. Server, Printer, or Personal Computers) together withing localized area such as office building or home. The LAN is most often connected by wire (Martin, 2016). It is the smallest network generally (Frenzel, 2007).
LAN- LAN means Local Area Network. It is a computer network that distances quite a small area. It is mostly restricted to a room or a building etc.
A wireless local area network, or LAN is a flexible data communications system implemented as an augmentation to, or an alternative for a, wired local area network. These networks rely on electromagnetic airwaves to transmit and receive over a defined area, usually a few hundred feet. (Yahoo-wireless) In
LAN technologies are Ethernet and ring. Users can use printing and other services, applications run on the LAN server. Could be used as a web server. Can be shared to others at the same LAN. User owned and does not run over leased line.
Local area networks (LANs). DEFINITION The concept of local area networks (LANs) is not new. It represents a logical development of computer technology. With the advent of microcomputers in the 1980s many office workers began bringing their own disks into work, compromising data integrity.
Computer network came into existence as a means of extending interoperability and promoting self-productivity through sharing of computer resources among the users. The trending factor in our society today is the fact that the world is connected as one global village. Humans are now able to connect together from any two points in the world. This is made possible by advances in telecommunication. Telecommunications simply is the extension of communication over a distance. This also brings about what we know as networking which is the interconnection of various equipment that are for the purpose of information sharing. Admittedly, long-distance networking haul is being achieved using fibre optics and microwave transmission for network bridges, this is commonly addressed as WAN – Wide Area Network. However, in interconnecting with our colleagues and equipment around us, we use the various form of LAN – Local Area Network, SOHO – Small Office Home Office falls to this category albeit via wireless transmission with the use of Access Points or wired technology using the Ethernet standards.
