A LAN network (Local Area Network) is an establishment created when clients or devices such as computers and phones etc. with the right networking specifications allowing them to be connected with each other using a common connecion such as Ethernet or wireless. This establishment allows the sharing of resources from the device through the network and to the desired destination such as another device e.g. Mobile phone, pc, tablet etc. all locally within the network by Ethernet etc. In this scenario the LAN network is used for gaming where two computers connected to the same network are trying to connect with each other to allow an established connection between the two allowing data to be shared, effectively creating a game server. A user will mainly use a specific LAN to share data between clients by pairing them together.
Ethernet is the most commonly used LAN technology. It is used to transmit data locally from the network router and to devices manually connecting them to the network by wire using copper cabling.

When setting up a LAN the architecture that you decide to choose is important. There are several factors that are decided when choosing said architecture, some of these being network speeds, types of cables, and access control mechanisms like collision detection (Team, 2011). I have learned many things in this class, things I never thought I were important. For example, the types of networks, I had never heard of MANs before. I knew what a LANs and WANs were but not the MANs. I now know MANs (Metropolitan Area Networks are large scale LANs. Another, thing gleaned from this class is Peer-to-Peer and Client/Server Networks. I found out that Peer to Peer networks are decentralized communication models where each station has the same ability to perform and any station can start a communication session. In the P2P network model each node functions as both a client and server. Whereas, a Client/Server Network is a program relationship where one program is the client and requests a service or resource from another program
When it comes to planning an entire system network is not a easy task. We need to explore the options and I plan on covering this in the essay and will go into brief details about several key concepts and explain key points in Peer to Peer (P2P) client / server architecture, web based computing and how network and their protocols are required for successful network implementation.

It stores all of the software that controls the network, as well as the software that can be shared by the computers attached to the network. Computers connected to the file server are called workstations. The workstations can be less powerful than the file server, and they may have additional software on their hard drives.
