From a Little Girl to a Young Woman
. The day of my Quinceanera started early. I had just turned 15 and it was the birthday I had always dreamed of. I was always a dama in other Quinceanera’s, but now it was time for my own celebration. In Mexican culture, a dama is just like a bridesmaid. I had 14 of my closest friends as my dama’s to be a part of my “court of honor”. All 14 girls wore beautiful hot pink dresses and had polished hairstyles. The girls looked like beautiful dolls. When my mother was a little girl she had two Quinceanera’s. One celebration took place in Mexico and the other here in California. Looking back at my

Somehow, I managed to keep a smile on my face as if I had no fears. The ceremony included Bible verses and singing. I received six gifts from my aunts and uncles: a Bible, a bouquet of flowers, a ring, a bracelet, a rosary and a tiara. Each of them was blessed by the father. Each gift I received held a meaning: closeness with family and with God, and the passage to womanhood.
Later that day, the celebration continued with a party at Eagles Banquet Hall. As the festivities started, I was so happy about the night to come. My court of honor was introduced as they led me into the celebration. We started out the night by performing a traditional Quinceanera march. It was a choreographed routine that we practiced for five months leading up to that day. My father came out with tears in his eyes and softly removed my ballerina slippers from my feet and replaced them with a pair of woman’s heels. With tears in his eyes, he grasped and hugged me so tight it was as if he didn’t want to let me go. My father and I started to dance the traditional father daughter dance. As the song was coming to the end, my father whispered in my ear, “ You’re a beautiful young woman, but you will always be my baby girl.” At that moment, tears filled my eyes and I realized how much love my father had for me. I will always remember that moment for the rest of my life.
My birthday was celebrated with a wedding style cake and 15 candles marking my age. It was 15 different tiers with 5
A quinceanera is the fifteenth-year of celebrating birth which can also be known as a fiesta de quinceanera. A quinceanera is a celebration of a girl’s fifteenth birthday with family roots tied to Latin America. These quinceaneras that are celebrated are celebrated much more differently than other birthdays. In Latin American cultures in the past young women were prepared for marriage by the age of fifteen because if they had not been married by then they became nuns. Before these young women became fifteen they were taught many things to be prepared to provide many things for their husbands like knowing how to cook, care for their children, and weave.
Today is my big day. I am finally fifteen years old. My parents are throwing me a huge quinceanera. A quinceanera is a celebration of a fifteen year old girl (among Latinos or Latin Americans) who are transitioning from a child to an adult. A quinceanera involves a mass and then a huge party. I go to the
All birthdays are special. Birthdays celebrate life and the passing of time. In a young Mexican girl life, there is no birthday more important then her quinceañera. The quinceañera is a celebration of a girl’s journey into womanhood. The story of my fifteenth birthday is contributed for a better understanding of how special it is to celebrate a girl’s transformation into a lady, and how it differs from any other birthday she celebrates.
It is finally the day for my Quinceanera and my dream is finally coming true! I am at Wrigley Field! There is no where else I would rather spend this time with my friends and family than at the place of my dreams. Wrigley Field is home to the Chicago Cubs and i have nothing less of an obsession! As i walk around the stadium, the decorations blow my mind. There are balloons everywhere. Happy 15th Birthday Lauren is written in the Ivy Wall with lights. The scoreboard has everyone in my court's name and shows their picture as they walk out of the dugout, around the bases, and then line up going down the baseline. They would each be escorted by a date. My court includes Caroline McDaniel, Kaitlin Gibson, Carleigh Cameron, Riley Harcrow, Dylan Fondren, and Sydney Kilpatrick. Then it is time for my grand entrance. My dress would be white with a blinged out red and blue 23 on the back. I would of course be wearing a
Throughout history, most young girls have a Quinceanera which is a special occasion and traditional celebration of a young girl turning fifteen on her birthday and making a transition from child to adult. Reached maturity and eligibility for marriage, which has been custom in most countries. A Quinceanera is something that started many years ago when a Spanish conqueror brought the tradition to Mexico and other countries. Throughout most countries, parents don’t celebrate their daughter’s fifteenth birthday by having a Quinceanera; they celebrated daughter’s birthday differently from other countries. While in countries like Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Central, and South America are the only ones who celebrate their daughter’s
Before I knew it, my Quincenera comes to an end. A year filled with a roller-coaster of emotions. I look back and I am so thankful to have got to experience this magical day. My aunts and cousins were right, this was the best day ever. I can not change one thing from this day, the decorations, the dress and the experience were all perfect.
After the church service, the celebration of Quinceañera will be continued with a reception. The music of the event is important. Music band or DJs has to be present to bring out entertainment and joy throughout the event. Like in wedding reception, the first dance of the party always goes to the birthday girl’s father. This daughter-father dance is a tradition for Quinceañera, and it is called the quince waltz (Madrina). This is a special moment for the young girl and her father. This dance symbolizes the young woman 's growing independence and the father has accepted that
It took me six months to plan the party, and those six months were stressful. Six whole months of hard work, arguments and phone calls had cumulainated in this events. At first, it was difficult for me to please everyone and find the right way to approach my family with my thoughts and ideas. But, once I find that it was easier for me to plan the event. I had to find a way a please both parties: my parents and sister.
“The time I have eagerly waited for has come here I am pinning my hair up, and putting my long black robe on. Looking into the mirror I smile at myself and think about all the times I would constantly tell myself I am capable of doing much more than what they say I can and I here proving them wrong, my mother rushes in to tell me it’s time to head over to the ceremony. Unfortunately, my father might not make it because of the fact he is working late and will not make it back in time. When we arrived, I walked over to my seat and took my position, it was a bittersweet moment, but surely my father would be immensely proud of my accomplishment tonight. During the ceremony, I feel my stomach turning and my heart beating
We got there just on time, I dashed to the front where a beautiful brick wall stood with a beautiful wooden door the looked older. I made sure they were ready and that I found Marshall a seat in the front row next to wear my parents should sit. A line full of malibu blue dresses and tuxes, we soon get out que. The parents walk in first then following along bridesmaid and groomsman, then I the Maid Of Honor and Brandon the Best Man. The song changes with the nerd theme and it starts playing, coming down the aisle here comes my sister and my dad dancing and being goofballs as everybody smiled and laughed as the kids blew bubbles. She made her way to the front and dad gave away her hand. The crowd stood in silence as the groom's uncle asked to pray with him, they closed their eyes and looked to the ground and held their hands to the front of them. “Thank you god for blessing me with this honor to marry these two young souls…” he began, and finished with a “Amen” as the crowd says
I’m at my first dance recital, looking for my mom in the audience because I know she’s there. I see all my friends’ moms and dads in the audience. After I finished performing, my friends were all taking pictures with their mom and dad. I see other dad’s bringing their daughters flowers to say “I’m proud of you”. I stand there giving my mom a big hug. I was so happy she was there, but my dad had missed my first ever dance performance. I know my dad wished he could’ve seen me dance, but he is in Iraq right now fighting for our country. He’s so brave. I miss him a lot.
We weaved in and out of each other, balancing plates and ducking under the homemade birthday decorations on our way to the dining room table. We set down in our usual seats: my dad, me, and my mom on one side of the table, my grandparents on the other side, and my little sister at the head of the table. It was such a comforting feeling to be sitting with my family and eating my favorite foods on my 16th birthday.
It was September 23, 2016 it was on a Friday a day before my quince I was getting nervous and stressing out. Since I was a little girl I would dream of this day. I never thought that this day would never come true. I feel like if I was just nine saying I have six more years to plan my quince. That day came to fast. There was so much to do the day before I had to practice my vals and surprise dance. My family and I had to make sure the food was ready for the next day. Planning a quince was not easy as I thought you get stressed out a lot you have to put time and effort into it. It was a whole day preparation.
I woke up at noon, since birthdays were the only day we were allowed to wake up after 9 a.m. The good thing about birthdays is that we did not have to do any chores. I sat on the couch watching cartoons and enjoying the fact that nobody was bossing me around. When our birthdays rolled around, we never really asked for presents or a cake. All we asked for was no work that day because it was our one free day off. After my exhausting SpongeBob marathon, I got my brother to run me to my real mom's house so I could spend a hour with the loving and caring parent that I wished would be in my life more. After a little while, we had to go back before anyone would notice we were gone. It was around dinner time by the time we arrived back home. We had tacos bought from the local restaurant that evening, it was more than I ever could have asked for. After a good birthday dinner and about a hour of lazing around the house, we decided to play some football outside. We walked outside and I was hit with a wave of fresh cut grass and the smell of the sweet apples upon the trees. The sun beamed down as we picked teams for our intense game of football. We played for hours, endlessly tackling each other, stealing the ball, and running it across the yard for a touchdown. Towards the end of the game, the sun was dipping down in the sky. All of us were covered with sweat, dirt, and grass stains. The last play was nigh and score was tied, we
It was now my 12th birthday and I was so excited because I was going to have a huge party at the Kosher Deli restaurant. I woke up early, got breakfast and took a shower, we would have to get to the restaurant early so that we could set everything up. Once in my dress, I went over my speech as my mother did my hair. I had worked on the speech all week so that I would get it just right. Earlier that week, my family and I had gone to a lot of stores to pick up flowers and dress clothes. Finding the right dress took a little longer than I thought, but getting the flowers were simple. Everyone had gone into the store and my mom and I went to the back to pick out the roses. I picked out the purple ones that were slightly opened. Afterward, we
