Reflective Paper 1: Engage Throughout my childhood, I have been exposed to a number of people, places, and experiences that have molded how I see the world, and where I see myself in the world. I have had many opportunities to grow and learn about myself through successes and failures alike. Because of my own, independent view of the world, I have constructed goals and aspirations that I believe will positively impact those not only around me, but throughout the world. 1) What have been the significant experiences and influences that helped you realize the roles you want to fulfill? These may include family influences or work experiences, important mentors, valuable courses, good teachers or even setbacks and failures. I have been fortunate enough to be involved in many things, loved and supported by many people, and have been exposed to a broad range of experiences and opportunities. From a young age, I have been working on a farm with my family, constantly being taught the importance of hard work, morals, values, and community. I believe that growing up on farm has its own way of breaking a person, from the early morning chores, daily work, to the late night harvests. Being a part of a family with such strong rooted morals and values of hard work, self-sufficiency, and community, …show more content…
I believe that a major part of this goal comes from losing three grandparents and numerous family friends to cancer. Additionally, learning about the mechanisms and genetics of cancer in my courses at Grand View have opened my eyes to the research and possibilities within this industry. By obtaining degrees that allow me to be a practicing pharmacist as well as dive deeper into the research side of pharmaceuticals, I believe I will be better equipped and more knowledgable about how drug interactions and convenience effects a
Having been adopted and overcome an incurable disease, I view the world as a place of opportunity and new beginnings. As a child my goal was to grow up and be like Einstein, but as I grew older I realized that there is so much more to know now than there was during Einstein's time and had no clue where to start and eventually I started listening to what I felt I wanted rather than what I was convincing myself I wanted.
Everything was so dandy and swell until the day that my sister came home with a C on her report card. I always looked up to Hailey and wanted to be as smart as her until that day. Back in the 3rd grade started the chain of events that would soon shape the guarded self conscious girl I am today.
The way in which a story is organized or complied adds to the ideas, themes, and character of the story. A frame narrative is a way in which a story is told were a main story leads reader into other stories within. Essentially a frame narrative is a story within another story. As in the story One Thousand and One Night the frame narrative is used to tell many different stories within the main story. Although the stories in One Thousand and One Nights are separate from the main story the stories are still relative to the main idea. In One Thousand and One Night the separate stories within are used to delay execution of one of the main characters. In the story of Canterbury tales the frame narrative is used to pass the time of a long journey
Around this time, last year I was sitting in the Madison County Juvenile. I was 14 and was supposed to be attending Indiana Christian Academy. I had began hanging out with the wrong crowd and it finally had caught up with me. I was trying to fit in, I had met a lot of friends from my older brother. I began smoking, and drinking because I thought that’s what it took for me to fit in. Over the summer last year, I spent most of my time with my best friend Alejandra. She was a good girl, she went to church and attended a Christian school. She didn’t get into drugs or any of the things I was choosing to get into.
One day when I woke up I smelled chicken then I woke up and ate some of the chicken then my mom said
Listen! I am going to be confessing today. Confessing something so horrific, it will make you cringe and cry, There I was in the kitchen, watching my mother cook dinner while my father watch3d his favorite TV show. My sisters were playing in the play room. I was looking at the cookie jar not the counter next to
In working-out, there are no shortcuts so I stand there, sweat dripping down my face, the bar heavy with 135 pounds on my shoulders while my school’s strength coach encourages me, “come on, you got this”. I do it. I squat a set of 135 pounds for the first time!
As the numbers on the side of the road went up, the anticipation rose. It was always a tradition to count up/down the exit signs to pass the time. It was something my family did too often Each number represented the start to a new life. Being a military brat, moving was an annual event. The saddest part, saying goodbye to friends, was getting easier each year. I was always so excited to go to a new atmosphere and hear amazing stories from a new crowd. The adventurous books I read could possibly come to life. The thing is this movie was different from the others.
My grandfather's farm theoretically made me who I am. These tasks put me through adversity. They tested me in ways no other experiences would: challenging my ability to persevere. I developed morals and values that have stay with me. One of such being the value of hard work. Up until these tasks, I had not fully understood where hard work could get
Europe was the first occasion I truly spent time out of the country. I must have heard two dozen different languages while in 13 different cities, across 6 different countries. There were people from all over the world in the places I stayed. Everyday was new experience, even if I had a plan, something would pop up and I'd have to change direction. This happened mostly when I met knew people. When you're alone in a foreign country it's important to find common ground with others.
From the time I was five to about nine, I was in the hospital every year at least three to four times for hurting myself.
It is also assumed that the act of telling a story can provide insight into past, present and future events (Espinoza, 1997). By going through this process, individuals can find the importance of certain events and assign roles to people who are a part of their story. This act can allow a client to find new meaning and understanding to their reality (Espinoza, 1997). Not only is a
In the near and rapidly approaching future I plan to complete my college courses and attend a pharmaceutical school to complete my education in pursuit of my goal to become a. These programs have helped me overcome The Anxiety of handling people, the laziness of going the extra mile in my education, and understanding the meaning of pride.
The night before I thought about just saying I went to a meeting and watching one on Youtube. This idea gave me more anxiety than actually going. I set my alarm for 6am to make it to the 7am-8am meeting at Narragansett Town Beach. My friend was over the night before and he also grew up in Narragansett and lived here for 30 years as well. He gave me worst anxiety, talking about I am going to see all the “townies”, teachers and neighbors. This made me extremely nervous, but it is the only time I can get to a meeting this week that 10 mins down the street.
At the end of the day it is not up to anyone else but me to accomplish what I need to in life. My personal vision has also evolved because I hold myself at a lot higher level. It’s not only for me, but I must show my five children that it is possible to accomplish your goals regardless of how busy life is. I must prove to them that anything is possible with hard work, consistency, and determination.
