It is essential to establish respectful and professional relationships with children and young people in the role of Teaching Assistant. There are certain strategies which enable such a valued and trusted relationship be established. In a role as a professional adult working with children you will need to remember that you need to be a positive role model for children,this means you will have to show them how to communicate and get along with others at all times through your own relationships and communications with other adults and children.It is very important for children to see adults behaving appropriately and proffesionally in schools.We build relationships with others daily in a diffrnt number of ways children will always respond positively to positive communication and realtionships they are more likely wanting to be in schools and to learn if they have good relationships and are supported by adults around them who get along with each other.

Establishing rapport and respectful and trusting relationships is an essential part of working with and supporting children and young people. This is because it enables pupils to feel respected, empowered and it means that communication is comfortable and clear between both pupil and adult. It also enables staff members to be professional, build a good relationship with pupils and to role model behaviour that they would expect of their pupils. There are various ways that staff members can establish rapport and achieve respectful and trusting relationships including speaking at an age appropriate level with their pupils, displaying good communication skills such as eye contact and an appropriate volume to our voice, following through

Building relationships is important in children and young people. You need to adapt your behavior and communication accordingly. Assessing the situation and environment you are in. It is important that children in all situations feel secure and have a sense of value from you. Your interaction with them should show this. You need to be able to create a positive relationship with children and young people this in turn will create a positive relationship, which will allow them to feel, accepted as part of the school community.

When communicating with family members it is important to respect confidentiality both from the family member and the service user. Knowing so much about a service user over a period of 6 months can cause complacency in what staff know about a client and where communicating with family can become controversial. I always check out who is calling or enquiring about a client before disclosing any information. Client confidentiality contracts are signed by service users and next of kin is identified. Staff members also sign a confidentiality agreement to ensure there are procedures should confidentiality be broken.

To create and work on positive relationships in schools, you need to show and role model effective communication in conversations with other adults and the way you approach other adults

The EYLF explains (2009, p.12) the five principles underpin practices which focuses on supporting and sustain practice in order to enhance children’s development in achieving learning outcomes. . The most relevant principle related to this scenario is respect for diversity, where educators must value and reflect the practices of diversity within the curriculum in the classroom. The curriculum makes the decisions that all children have the right to have their culture, identities, and strengths value and acknowledge (EYLF, 2009, p.13). Therefore, educators will provide opportunities for children to learn about differences and similarities amongst other children and how they can interact and learn together. Secondly, respectful and reciprocal relationships between students, educators and parents will develop respect, value and confidence. As teachers, we need to create a comfortable classroom climate where there is a feeling of acceptance and celebrate differences among each student. Effective teachers will also demonstrate appropriate planning, preparing and execution of content. Standard 5 is focused on Middle Level Professional Roles. Along with understanding and applying knowledge of young adolescents, as discussed with Standard 1, it is equally important to be an advocate for the students. By using professional leadership strategies, being an advocate for all young adolescents helps maximize their growth and learning. In order to be fully effective, working closely with family member and also with the community strengthen the ability to achieve this success.

For this essay there will be a critical evaluation of the counselling approaches and skills that are used which can guide the practice of education professionals and benefit relationships with children/ young people in supporting their social and emotional well-being. The approaches that will be looked at and compared are the Person-centred approach and the Psychodynamic approach.
