Writing has been in the human civilization for thousands of years ago and it has been a way to convey messages and laws. It has evolved as time passes by. Now, writing is used for everyday activities. Some people really are passionate in writing. However, some people do not feel the same. They tend to be stressed when they write because they do not know what to write, and I am one of them. I am not fond of writing. On my experience in writing, I was never good at it. I thought it’s so hard to do and it requires a lot of work. I only write when my teacher says so, and when there is homework. I have a habit of not taking notes in class. One day, it changed. I got a failing grade. I thought about what I did wrong, so I went through my notes. I
A person can read and write a great deal in one day whether they realize it or not. Whether it be texting a friend or reading a textbook for a certain class, you are reading and writing constantly and a daily basis. What surprised me the most about the reading and writing that I did on Sunday was how much I am reading and writing on my phone. Whether I am texting to coordinate plans with a friend for the night or reading a random article I saw while reading a Facebook news feed, I am constantly reading and writing on my phone. I never considered it reading and writing when I used my phone, I just saw it as looking at my phone. Just staring at this four-inch screen for some sort of entertainment. What also surprised me was how much we read without noticing it. You can walk down State Street and you will be constantly reading by looking at stores, posters, or even words on a bus that is passing by. Our eyes and brains are looking at and reading words all the time.
While writing might seem like a simple task, it can be a daunting task for a lot of people. Sometimes it can be hard to express the ideas in your mind in the words of a paper. This results in a disconnect with what a writer may actually think. A great writer is one that can transform his thoughts into words perfectly. This is a craft that takes many years to perfect, which is why writing is troublesome for a lot of us. Many students also have had bad experiences with writing. Maybe they had a teacher that didn’t try to support them and their writing. They might not have ever gotten the help they needed and may feel that they are in a hole where their writing can’t get better. At this point, they just accept that their writing will never get better.
During my past writing experience, I have struggled with formulating and initiating interesting points of discussion, grammar, and transitions. I have often sat down to work on a paper and found myself completely drawing a blank on anything interesting to write about. Whether I am given a specific prompt or general topic to discuss, I constantly struggle with finding a starting point. Once I do, I become too focused on trying to create a poetic sounding paper, rather than focusing on the main discussion points. In some ways, focusing on making my papers poetic have added detail and depth to my writing. However, this frequently distracts me from my papers main theme. One of my biggest drawbacks with writing has always been proper grammar usage.
There are many experiences that have shaped the way I write today. For example, during my senior year at Plainfield Central High School, I struggled with finding a way to put my paper together using ideas and words of my own. My senior English teacher always said, “Writing a paper is not always just citing what you found on a website. You need to add your own thoughts and comments to make your paper more personal.” She sat down with me after class and worked on my paper with me to try and teach me a way to find my own words and it worked. She had me write the paper before finding any type of citations on the internet. That way, it was all my own words and then I could find my sources and add them in there and delete anything of my own if needed. Another example is, when I was sitting at my kitchen table struggling to find the words to make the paper have good detail. My mother looked at me and said, “Write how you want it to be written. Write it in the way you believe will make a good paper.” That has helped me tremendously because when I write how I want to write, I generally like how my papers turn out so much more. Another thing that has helped me was, about one time every week I would sit down and write about anything I can think of. It could be what I am looking forward to doing in the future or even just what is on my mind at that moment. I realized that the more I write, the better I get at it.
The day I first found out that I did not like writing was when I was in high school. To me writing has always been a long process. When I had my first writing assignment in high school, it took me so long to get it done. I would easily get distracted because of anything, whether it be a bright sunny yellow bee buzzing or a big diesel truck passing by I would get distracted. This would lead me into not finishing my assignment till the last day. Another reason I don’t like
The inevitable had happened; I, as a small child, was demanded to read. A little antisocial human being launched into a world of, at first, difficult words and lengthy phrases. While words and literacy were forced into my mind, I had reluctantly begun the adventure to enjoy and accept the art of literature. Later however, my hopes and dreams were crushed to pieces by a gruesome teacher with an interesting form of a so called “grading policy.”
I immensely struggled when writing. Taking my scrambled thoughts and uncoordinated analysis and converting it into clean and understandable words on a page was arduous. I could not express my thoughts in proper academic format. I understood the importance of writing to every subject. It was essential that I learn to condense my ideas and feeling into coherent written word. After much debate, I decided that the best way to improve my writing skills was to take an advanced English course.
I may not be the best writer there is out there but I do put all of me into each piece I develop. I believe in giving it your all at all times. If your giving it anything less why try at all. I'm huge on that theory and I believe it means a lot more than I believe it to be. I hope that each piece I submit this semester is nothing less than my best and I hope to take in all the criticism and use it to my advantage.
My experience have been good but not so good. I'm not the best writer I struggle to get my ideas down.
Being a writer is not something that comes easy, it is something that must be worked at. You get better at it over time by practicing and improving your writing skills through the help of tools or other people. I persobnally wanted to better my own writing askills, so I began identifying my problems and finding resources to help better those fields in which I need help. My most major problems as a writer include my style or wirting, transitioning, and forming complete paragraphs. I found many helpful tools on my journey to become a better writer and I believe that I have strengthened my understanding of essay writing as well.
Writing is a process that is difficult to start, yet impossible to end. To sit down with a notebook and formulate the first thought that is notable can take a minute, but often takes me hours. My mind is very focused yet the focus of my thoughts wonders. Thus, to say that I was born to be a writer might just be the farthest from the truth. Now there is one large contradiction in that statement. Once I begin the writing process I have a tendency to get caught up in it. While my writing process as well as my writing style tends to vary based on topic and circumstance, my methods remain the same. I know that a course with such heavy writing will bring upon its own set of challenges, I hope to keep realistic expectations while utilizing my strengths as a writer in order to reach my course goals.
Writing has continuously served as a getaway in my life. It has kept me from bottling up my thoughts and emotions and has allowed me to express all of these things on paper. Communicating through speaking has always been a weakness of mine. It is for this reason that I often turn to writing to convey my feelings. Though have such an immense passion for free-writing, I have found myself struggling when comes to writing academic papers. Generally, I enjoy writing when it is something that I am interested in. In Composition I and II, I often have had the opportunity to choose the topic that I write my paper on. I am confident that this has been a major turning point for me within my academic essays. Ultimately, Composition I and II have taught
At the beginning of the 2017-18 I had many writing oriented struggles that stopped me from writing to the best of my abilities. One of the many speed bumps I encountered was that I made bad choices when it came to the words I chose when writing my essays. During the course of the school year I have learned to improve the way I write papers by using better words. I have also learned that I should look up synonyms of words that don't fit or sound right in my essay to make everything sound better. The words I use in my essays also lack precision. I have improved on this by searching for the definition of words on the internet. If the original word in a sentence does not match my thought, I will look for a new word that matches the meaning that
All throughout my years of schooling, I’ve had just about, one paper that was about one page long, due every year. My papers never had to be more than one page in length. Therefore, I did not have to do much writing or do many essays. Surely not enough to remember any of the assignments. Writing has never been something I enjoyed doing, so I never bothered to many any memories of my writing experiences. I did not think it was necessary to remember any of them since I only had to do them to get a grade. The only writing experience I remember was the first assignment I had in this English 100 class about a writing experience. All week long, I sat there thinking about what to write about, but nothing came to mind as a topic. Then, one thing came to mind, but it was so very vague, I could not write the length that was needed for the assignment. I could only think of a few sentences to write for it. After sitting for a few moments longer, I thought, how about I write about how difficult it was for me to write this essay before it was due.
I have never really liked to read and write. At a very young age, I learned that writing and reading homework was the one that I most hated doing. I didn’t learn how to read and write until I entered elementary school. I remember that my mom would put my brother and I to do our writing homework and she would tell me to do my letters smaller and she would tell my brother to write bigger. She would really struggle with both of us when it came to doing our homework because she would tell me something and my brother would do it and vice versa. I don’t really know how she managed to help us with our homework when she didn’t even know how to actually speak or write English.
