UC Personal Statement Some people have skills that makes them unique, my skill was just always a hands on learner. I have always just enjoyed fixing minor things around my house since I was four. My mother would usually say “Where’s my handyman at?” whenever there were something to fix. Something about getting the knowledge of turning something useless into its original state just intrigues me. When I was around ten years old, I started skating and it had me actually figure out the board completely and learned how to assemble one which gave me more experience. Around elementary and middle school, I didn’t know much of what career path I would choose since everyone I knew in my classes had their lives all planned out. I would panic when people asked “what are you going to be after your out of school?” and I didn’t know what to say so I just told them that I would be a correction officer like my dad. In the beginning I forced that thought into my head, but at the same time I knew it wasn’t something I always wanted to be. So my search of my future career was now back into my first priorities. …show more content…
I was able to put my skill of being able to fix things into something I can actually use in the real world. I just felt so relieved that all those years of wondering “what kind of career path would I take after high school?” is now finally over. I enjoyed how my teacher was one on one with each and every single one of us in his class. He showed us how to do simple auto mechanic jobs, and talked us step by step on what we needed to do to complete what task he gave us. It was all slowly coming to me and I started to have that knowledge on what the problem is and how could I solve
I was never the kid who already figured out what career I wanted to pursue. In fact, I had no idea of where my life was heading after high school till AP Biology. AP Biology became the pivotal
As a student at California Baptist University I will strive to be the best student I can be. I count on this university to prepare me for the real world and build towards my future and career. I hope CBU provides me with a lot of experience and hands on training, so that when I graduate I will be prepared. I’m determined to expand my knowledge and become a well rounded individual. I wish to broaden my learning skills overall and become a better student. Learning in a college environment will be different compared to high school, however I am looking forward to obtaining new information from the teachers at CBU.
As a graduate student in School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, I have acquired so many skills ranging from corporate communications, public relations, brand communications, advertising, Search Engine Marketing (SEM), advanced writing, public speaking, just to mention a few.
As a pre-med hopeful, my criteria for colleges has been the following: the college must have a strong biology program, particularly in genetics, as I plan to major in biology with a concentration in genetics and biotechnology. My ideal college must have a plethora of research opportunities, and it must be affordable for my family. Middle Tennessee State University has met and exceeded all my standards. After applying to colleges with steep tuitions, I realized that I needed to choose a university that would allow me to graduate with little to no debt. My mother had taken courses at MTSU, so I searched the college online and discovered its exceptional biology program. No other Tennessee state school I had researched before had as many in-depth classes as MTSU has.
In my highschool career I spent most of my time at the pool as a swim instructor and lifeguard and surprisingly this was what showed me that caring for children was my passion. By working with these kids and learning how to care for them it only gave me more confidence in my decision to become a pediatrician. This and my personal experience with children really opened my eyes to how what I truly wanted to do going into college was right in front of me. I plan to major in Biology and have a minor in Psychology.UNC Wilmington has an excellent Biology program that I would love to take a part of. Going this to university would be a fantastic opportunity because it is known for its diversity, affordability, and highly ranked programs. When I found UNCW I thought It would be a perfect fit for me.
Graduating high school was an exciting time, but I felt lost. I wasn't sure of my career goals or what I wanted to accomplish at University. When I first decided to attend community college, I felt hesitant because I did not take the traditional route like my other classmates. However, community college was cheaper and would give me time to figure out the career path I wanted to take.
This spring, I will be completing my first year of graduate school in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of New Mexico. I graduated with a B.S. Degree in Environmental Science from UNM last year and was the first in my family to earn a college degree. I transferred to UNM in the fall of 2012 and have had the opportunity to interact with many professors, which I feel helped to influence my decision for graduate school.
I’ve never had the opportunity to experience university life after high school as a result of financial responsibilities to my family. Community college was my best hope at beginning my journey to a fulfilling career in the medical field, but it wasn’t enough to fulfill my goals. What I want, or what I need, is a University that will give me the tools and opportunity to move forward even further with my ambitions in life as a contributing member of society. As my friend and I visited different universities, California Baptist University (CBU) gave us a sense of hope and importance we got from no other. I believe by attending California Baptist University I can better myself and that this private university will give me the attention and care I need.
The transition from high school to college is a notoriously daunting experience for students entering, arguably, the most important years in their lives. Everything that a student has come to know about academics, for the most part, are to be radically challenged. Many different factors go into the change, and any particular one can be enough to overwhelm any given student into becoming an emotional wreck. Whether it be living on one's own for the first time, drastic schedule changes, or becoming socially involved, these responsibilities are just three examples, among the seeming hundreds. However, a perfect balance between these responsibilities is a major key in not allowing the stressors to take one captive.
I have a passion for learning, which has been inspired by my undergraduate studies at UCSB. I came into college thinking that I would feel the same about my classes as I did in high school. Most were interesting, but nothing really made me feel inspired about learning until my first quarter Sociology class. I am currently a Sociology major and plan to double major in History, as well as minor in Applied Psychology. These three subjects have grabbed my attention and have made me truly passionate about learning new things. I am working to achieve a high GPA during my undergrad at UCSB so that I can get into a good Graduate School to obtain a Ph.D to further the passion I have for education.
Growing up as a non-denominational Christian and still consider myself one. Over the past few years I have no attended church as often as I should. I am hoping to get back into applying my Christianity to everyday life and I’m hoping that CCU will help me with that. My mother attended this school to receive her Bachelors degree and only had great things to say about it. We were speaking a few weeks back how I have been striving to get back to my religion and have not had motivation to do so. She suggested attending CCU so that I can start learning to apply my religion to nursing. So here I am, ready to learn. As a nurse I have an opportunity to have a huge influence on many lives. Not only medically, emotionally, but spiritually. My patients
I want from my college experience is to become a biomedical engineer and to become a better person of great character. At WSU, I want to take any type of class that will help me become knowledgeable to become a biomedical engineer. I am determined to use any type of resources WSU can provide me, to achieve my goal. I also want to join any type of club/organization to improve on how to be leader, a team player and to help others. I have learned from high school how to become a leader, a team player and how to help others. I want to better improve my qualities, learn from others, and improve my knowledge at WSU.

When I was a young girl and people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I had no idea because I’ve always been interested in multiple things at once. As I grew my career options broadened, but also became more specific to me. I knew I’d always wanted to be a person who helps others, but wasn’t exactly sure what path I wanted to take. I mean very few children are, but I was a curious child. Elementary was when I realized exactly what I wanted to do. I was a shy child, but when comfortable I loved to talk and listen to others. It all started with a leather notebook I’d received from my dad and conversation with a friend on the playground. I started to take down notes as she talked and then give her advice based on what she’d given me.
As a child first it was I was going to be a police officer and no one could tell me otherwise, then it was I’m going to be second grade teacher but by mid junior high going into high school there were no more changes my mind was set on being a psychologist. It was my eleventh grade that I knew which one specifically I wanted to be, a counseling psychologist and my grandma always telling me that people is my job suit. My value, strengths and interests all rely on building relationships and caring for others and their feelings. As a result, when I fulfill these needs I feel so greatly accomplished and beyond satisfied.
