Ways that I strive to perfect my Spanish is by asking my parents and relatives specific questions about...and by encouraging critiques when I .... For instance, my grandfather made me see how “duro” should not be used when saying something is difficult to do, rather it more accurate if you say “dificil”. This lets me see how the Spanish language is as complex as the English Language with words being used with the wrong connotation. FOr example, My Father is from El Salvador and my mom is MExican, and through them i see how each area has words that mean the same thing. For “straw” my mom tends to say”popote” while my dad calls it a “pajilla”, showing how different countries use different words to refer to the same item.. My spanish tends to
For over two decades, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera has presided over one of the largest drug cartels in Mexico, the Sinaloa cartel. In the article “El Chapo Speaks.” Penn effectively convinces his audience that “El Chapo’s” capture won’t stop the war on drugs by the use of rhetorical explanation, labeling, and rhetorical definition. The author uses the use of rhetorical explanation by stating many statistics during El Chapo’s reign, and how Guzman really is. Penn also uses labeling by using highly connotative words to describe the people, and last he describes how he feels by using rhetorical definition.
“Think inside the box, think inside the box!” When we think inside a box we are imitating our capability and limits are view of the world. We are limited to an area but there were two inspiring females that thought outside the box. This two female had no limits, Frida Kahlo and Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz where the beginning of feminist movement. They may not be recognized for their people in there years but they did change the view of female now.
From the essay “ Se Habla Espanol” by Tania Barrientos in the Norton Field Guide to Writings with Readings, I found that the author born in 1960 just like me, also, her family and my family are Hispanics, as a result, she and I face stereotypes fitting into two cultures. However, I want to spend more emphasis on similarities and differences trying to fit under philosophic pressure, and the acquisition of a language circumstances.
The Spanish conquistadors’ motives greatly affected the people living in the new world. These motives influenced the Native Americans in all different ways some ways better or bigger than others. Three of the biggest motives that effected the Native Americans were gold, Christianity, and glory.
Francisco Jimenez struggled with the English language, but he overcame that struggles by reading a book and studying. For example, when he was in the
There's a lot of things that are enjoyable on Mrs. Chavez's English 1, period 2 class. For instance, SURF, writing poem, and more. Surf is when the students read their chosen book for 30 minutes and write some information about the book after reading it. In addition, the students recently wrote a poem called "Where I'm from," it was a very interesting poem and also fun to create. However, the most enjoyable part of the class is when the students get to pick their own group members. It was very appreciative that Mrs. Chavez let the students select who they wanted to work with because it's been only a few weeks since school started and some students might not be comfortable working with other students that they are not familiar with. Especially
Yollie gets home and opens her front door with tears in her eyes and her dress looking like a tornado of white, black and gray. She runs to her room and slams the door.
There are many people in this world today that are being judged for their skin color, how they talk, where they came from, how they walk and their ethnic background. People like this are looked down on by society for just being themselves. Language, Gender and Culture can relate to power because men have more power than women by the way they speak, their income and their education. When it comes to language, gender and culture there is a lot of racial profiling that occurs.
“If Only We All Spoke Two Languages” is an segment written by Ariel Dorfman that discusses the benefits of the United States becoming a bilingual and or a multilingual society. The piece was written in March 2004 and first appeared in the novel “Everything’s an Argument with Readings”. In the portion author Ariel Dorfman criticized Americans for being monolingual. The author illustrates how learning a second language “builds a bridge” to the English language. Dorfman continues to give statements of how advantages being multi or bilingual can be stating that it offers people “economic and political edge” and assists them in “understand someone else's culture.” The author concludes that if Americans do not follow through with procedures to increase
The fact of the matter is that Malinche, Cortes translator was not a victim but a traitor. She only acted on self benefit that was a result of too much power. You can of course have an argument that she was trying to survive, but on what basis was she in danger, the Spanish needed her and she was the only known translator so there had to be some kind of ulterior motive.
Society today is quick to judge and state what is wrong and what is acceptable by the public. While some differences between Spelling Matters and Use Your Own Words are obvious, the similarities are relevant. Anne Trubek says that perhaps it is time to change or alter grammar rules to match the current generation and culture. We should advance our guidelines about what is proper and improper along with what is happening right now with the language. While Mikita Brottman says, “bad spelling can be a godsend—a way of weeding out those who are thoughtless and inattentive to detail” (p. 219).
In the past two months i fell like i have accomplished a great deal. As i focus on it more i realize i have become a better reader. I did this by concentrating on my readings and take my time to read them. With the help of my professor and classmates i began to analyze what i read.
As a Spanish teacher, I believe the purpose of education is to learn so you can go out into the world and survive. Being able to communicate, have teambuilding skills and self-direction are the foundations of learning. My goals for teaching Spanish is that the students know how to communicate effectively. I do not want them to list off vocabulary but be able to apply it to a real world context. I want to teach Spanish because I love the idea of another language with the cultural aspects. Students learn best by doing, they can do worksheets but I believe students doing things hands on, crafts and interactive activities will help them acquire the language easier.
Teaching Spanish has been one of my favorite classes I have taken in high school! This class is very laid back and is relatively easy if you use your time wisely during class and meet specified deadlines and requirements. Incoming students need to be aware that they need to record what they did in class everyday in Spanish. Students need to make sure they keep up with their journals so they do not have to write them all the day before they are due! If you love children, then I highly recommend this course. From this class, I have learned that I love working with children. This class has actually solidified my aspirations of becoming a pediatric nurse. Some of the difficulties that we have had include classroom management, it can be hard at
They always wanted me to say a long sentence in Spanish. When people talked to me, I looked at their mouth and paid close attention to what they were saying to me. That way I observed what they just said and use it as an example later on in the future. Through the five years I have been here in Florida, I feel that I have improved my English and lost the fear when I’m talking to teachers or my friends. I compared myself to a funnel that mechanics use to carefully guide the oil into small pipes. I have my mind full of great ideas, but when it’s time to say it, it comes so thin and does not sound that great anymore. I take a long time to put the right words together.
