English 101 Analysis

In order to master this skill I need to remember to use the SQ3R study technique. SQ3R stands for survey, question, read, recite and review. By surveying before I read it gives me an idea of what I am going to be reading about which will prepare my mind for what it is about take in. Asking questions and then answering them as I read will help information stick in my mind. When I read something, I need to remember not to get frustrated because I’m obviously not going to remember everything the first time. It’s okay to have to read things more than once. Also if I recite and review things over and over it will help me retain information as well. The more I use the SQ3R study technique the more comfortable I will become in reading. By doing this routinely it should help me improve my study skills and my academic success.

I was able to focus on reading, but I kept reading the same things more than once. It took me much longer than it should have to read the narrative. I eventually was able to relate to the writer.

1. What strategies do I use before I read or view a text? How do they help me understand the text?

I have chosen active reading as a skill to build on because although I read certain pieces of work as though I was reading a story to a child in order to retain the information better I have never thought of re-reading the work to work through the potential interpretation variations. I find that this skill would be particularly beneficial when you are struggling

English 101 is much different than any English class I have ever taken. The theme of the class is to help you with your overall English skills. It is different for our class because while our class work is done online, we have the help of an in-class teacher who oversees our work and gives us tips and advice on how to do some of the work when we have questions.

My class that really require a lot of reading is English 101, I preview the textbook to have an idea what am about to read, I tried to read a few pages and absorbed the text for better understanding, and highlight some phrases for references as I read in case of reference, I take note in my own words for later recovering of my reading. Once I get bored I just glance through the rest of the pages. How to improve effectively with the reading strategies is to finding new ideals to present research materials in a different ways and learn habits of break assignment into pieces.

Upon reading the syllabus for English 10, my excitement grew for the enduring commitment of this advanced literary class. Personally, I enjoy struggling in my academic career; if assignments and reading material were always easy to comprehend, how would we learn? I am a firm believer that true learning comes from periods of struggle and critical thinking, fueling my desire to enter English 10.

“I am not a speed reader. I am a speed understander,” wrote by Isaac Asimov. The majority of people who read daily understand quickly and better than those do not read. The more they read, the more of a perfect reader they will become. For me, reading has been indispensable because it is the fundamental imperative and the key of success. Over my life, I realize my reading experiences have become challenging, creating an impact on my personality.

As a reader on a scale from 1 to 10, I rate myself a 5 because I rarely read. The last time I read a full novel was in January 2015. In class, if I am told to read, I try to only read the parts I require or is the answer. On very rare occasions, I do read news articles, but usually only a few parts or lines of it. I usually try to watch the news rather than read it which doesn’t benefit me as a reader since I have a little to no want in reading. I probably have to learn quite a bit more than just how to be a great reader but perhaps actually how to read.

From what I can remember from my high school career, the essays that were assigned in my English class were based on the narratives, poetries and passages that were read in class. We would be assigned books and passages that our teacher would give us and write about what the author was trying to explain throughout his story. We would also have to compared and contrast different poems. The different kinds of writing assignments that I had to do in my high school English class were based on narrative essays, descriptive essays and persuasive essays. I would have to convince people what I thought about a book or poem through my writing. I also had to compare and contrast passages with novels. The most recent English writing assignment that I had to do in high school was my college essay. I

Mr. Hart, I have managed to amaze myself one again. Last semester I signed up for English 2330 I thought I signed up for 2130 but that was not the case. I thought I was lucky enough to have the same professors again the following semester. So here it is I am taking your English 2330 class again. I do not know if I should finish this semester since this course only counts once. Do you have any recommendations?
