Throughout my educational experience, I have endured countless hardships that made progress difficult at times. Although it was a struggle through my strong dedication to education, I have also earned a list of achievements for my hard work. These experiences from, failing two of my English classes, to excelling tremendously in mathematics, have molded me into the type of student I am today. I am a student with a growth mindset and, an optimistic outlook on education and, the bright future ahead. I now understand the impact that a positive mindset can have on your future. I am definitely proud of the student I have become. I feel like my journey is unique, but is also very relatable. As early as I can remember, I always excelled in my classes. I felt like at the time I was without a doubt an above average student. I often recall my instructor Mrs. Shek from third-grade saying, “Wow you are smart Jonathan”. Even my fourth-grade instructor Mr. William’s would often write comments on my essays like “Good job you outdid yourself”. My self-esteem skyrocketed early on, confident in my ability to excel; I felt I was ready to take on the world. My teacher’s comments had reminded me of a quote from an article I read called, “Brainology” by Carol S. Dweck. Dweck stated “In the 1990’s, parents and schools decided that the most important thing for kids to have was self-esteem.” (2) Its said that if we felt good about ourselves, we would be set. Little was known of the consequences of
The concept of self esteem is widespread in life. When it comes to academics and extracurricular actives people associate high self esteem is necessary for success. Society makes promoting self esteem an important goal. With that in mind, it is surprising that only recently scientific literature began providing insight into the nature of development of self esteem.
All this lead onto all these years of educational experiencing and how I am treated today. With just one more year left in this school I believe I have made the
As a first generation student there has been an abundant amount of obstacles that have been placed into my path as a test to view how dedicated I truly am to my goals. Ever since I was a kid I aspired to be someone successful in my family and still do to this day. It was always my dream to be the first one to accomplish what the rest weren’t able to. To me being in school was already hard enough for me ever since I was a kid, because I could never get along with the rest of my classmates. Most of them would consider me as weird, just because I was a shy individual with a dora haircut. I never really spoke either because I felt so isolated from the rest, it was just so obvious for me I was different.
I try to do my absolute best or go above and beyond with any work or task given to me. I don’t give up on anything that matters deeply to me. I have on several occasions continued to attend school; even though, I may not feel at all well; because, I know the vitality of school and learning what I need to know for the future. I want nothing more than to accomplish all my goals and dreams, but through it all I must make sure to work my absolute hardest to do so. My determination will cause me to follow all my expectations of succeeding and creating a life for myself that I will enjoy
Growing up, I have been an individual who has pushed myself beyond the minimum requirements in order to succeed. In high school I excelled in both academics and athletics. I graduated in the top 10% of my class and lettered in hockey and tennis my sophomore, junior, and senior year. I worked hard and put in extra time in order to set myself apart from others. Succeeding in both school and athletics made me a responsible, reliable, and an organized individual. These experiences made me a versatile individual and have given me a work ethic that has benefited me with my academics in college and with my work and volunteer experiences.
1. List and briefly describe the two most significant distinctions or awards you have earned at university/college/CEGEP, or upper years in high school.
Public school systems need to be more sensitive to their students. Parents play the major role in determining a child’s academic outcome, but the school system needs to notice children who don’t necessarily acknowledge their gift. These children need guidance -- I believe it is the schools’ responsibility to provide it to them. I have been through a situation that makes me feel strongly about the subject. My example is an indisputable case in point.
I began Mrs. Chambers’ interview with the first background question, like in the first two interviews, tell me about your educational experiences in school. Mrs. Chambers’ responded:
I guess my school experience has been one of many trials and tribulations, more of a story of redemption. My intent is to shed a beacon of light onto what I deem to be the beginning chapters of my educational journey.
Striving to reach my fullest potential has always been a long term goal of mine, I can recall studying hard for spelling bees in the first grade and running around the yard hoping to better my mile time. When I began high school I had the ambition to be one of the best students. I recall exploring the school and seeing a list of former graduates recognized as “high honors” and others who were remembered as students with great community involvement. I began my high school career in a few clubs and as years flew, I became more involved in the school community and volunteering at school blood drives and other vents. Eventually I was even elected onto the board of the National Honor Society. I strived to receive excellent grades and I did so through immense dedication. I have always been a motivated individual but my dedication runs to my roots. My roots in which began with two anxious hearts flying to the United States in the 1980s.
Before reaching high school, I had never understood true adversity. I relied on my seemingly developed skills and prior knowledge of basic fundamentals in sports to set me apart from others. I was used to excelling in almost every activity I involved myself in if I worked hard enough, so failure was something I had not encountered. It wasn't until ninth grade that I truly faced hardship in a place I had thought was my comfort zone. Although the threat of failure was surfacing, my perseverance and determined mindset were ultimately the catalysts for success.
Being able to attend college and further my education is a true blessing. This is an oppurtunity I have wanted for many years. Self motivation and determination will help me succeed in reaching my educational goals. I am the key to my own success. Failure is not an option.
Education is a journey through the universe. The universe is enormous and seems to have no end. If a person wants to be truly educated, he or she must spend years in school studying both important and trivial information. The material in the solar system represents the years a student spends in school. The remaining space in the universe is the endless learning one does outside of the classroom.
My family, culture, educational, professional experiences have all been positive. The different teachers that I have had; guided me into considering the teaching career for many reasons. First, my family has guided me, my mom and dad have always found the right schools for me. They have pushed me to do hard things that make me scared. They have had faith in the school’s that I chose were the right choices, and they will grow on me. My cultural experience is also a factor of why I want to be a teacher. My schools have been centered on helping students who have learning differences, so I have always been open about having a learning difference to other people. My educational experience has been amazing. It has been positive for me because the schools I have gone to were safe places that I could be myself. The teachers at my schools made a significant impact on me starting at a young age. The professional experience has been limited but beneficial. I worked at Stratford Friends School; I learned it is so much fun to work with children who were just like me. I love the children and school. I get excited about going back to school shopping. I love to dance in the isles, and I love to look at all the beautiful school supplies.
For this I also took the challenge of learning everything I could and build on my knowledge. Throughout my life there has being several achievements that I am proud of just like any other person but their is one I am most proud of. It was a little before high school that I made a major decision that changed my life forever, my life took a new course.. It was one of those situations that you never expect, I had being accepted to this new program in the district called Early College Academy. This program gave the opportunity to students to be able to take high school classes while taking college credits, with the opportunity of getting their Associate’s Degree with their high school diploma. This was not just a great opportunity for me but it was also a gift, the district was paying for my higher education. As I set myself in this journey I grew up mentally and started to act as a college student, also, I learned to be on top of my classes and go a mile further in what I did. Although, I also encounter new struggles, for example, I was expected to pass a college level test when I was barely starting high
