Bullying is very common in most schools in the United States Around three million United States students miss class every month just because of bullying. When Alex Libby shared his story he gave a voice to millions of children who suffer from bullying, because he shared his story it changed the way most people think of the effects of bullying. An example of bullying is there was a girl named Kelby Johnson who was mocked by teachers and students because she was a lesbian, she had to stop playing basketball because her ignorant teammates didn’t want to be near her. Alex Libby is one of the 13 million school children in the United States that is being bullied. Alex’s mom said “ Kid’s back in the day, could go home and be safe you can’t do that a lot now, now you can get bullied online.”

Bullying is very bad and because of this about 160,000 of 13,000,000 kids stay home so they don’t get bullied by anyone. Also out of that 13 million 2,000 commit suicide because of the harsh bullying. Since many kids around the world are being bullied schools have been starting an anti-bullying system which brings bullies down by 15%. When kids reported bullying 80% of it is name calling, 39% is hitting or shoving, 38% is threats, 29% is rumor spreading, etc. Everyone should always remember one rule and that is the golden rule, the golden rule is to treat others how they want to be treated, but some bullies just don’t understand so they make everyone feel bad about themselves.

Anti Bullying Policy – Schools, by law, have to have a policy in place to prevent all forms of bullying between pupils. These policies need to comply with Education and Inspections Act 2006 which gives head teachers the ability to discipline pupils for poor behaviour even if it occurs outside of school premises or under the lawful control of school staff. It also provides that every school must reward and encourage good behaviour. These should be communicated to all pupils, staff and parents and be part of the behaviour policy. There is no single solution that will suit all schools that will deal with all forms of bullying as there is soo many e.g. virtual bullying, physical bullying and mental bullying. What is the most effective way to stop bullying? According to the article “ Teenage Bullies” by Jenifer Goodwin, the author discusses that the reason why teenage bullying others is because they want attentions to be more popular. First,the bullying level is also relate to the ability. Second, most of the teenage bullies are the popular kids but not the most popular kids. Third, the majority of kids did not bullying others. In addition, the author suggested that if we want to solve the bullying problems we should consider to encourage all the bystanders to speak up to stop bullying. Finally, the author also mentions other solution is the victims should know how to protect themselves. The article makes an important point when it discusses the popular kids’ intention of bullying, and the witnesses should help to stop bullying.

I believe schools should be free of bullying because it is a place where we need to study and build fundamentals for our future. Bullying damages the bullied individuals emotionally, academically, and intellectually. I know this from a personal experience, I suffered from bullying for about three years in high school, and I know how it feels to be bullied and to be afraid to assert myself. The bullies used to bully me by calling me “ugly” and “stupid” and many other phrases…I used to hear these negative words and phrases daily. It even affected my academic performance, and I used to tell myself that it is okay, I am not the only one who has been through this and not survived. Plus, I was scared if I faced them and tried to defend myself, it will be worse, so I used to deal with it by silence. It stopped when I decided to speak up about it to my teacher. After talking to my teacher, who took care of the problem, nobody bothered me after that day. If I had not spoken up and stood up for myself that issue would have never been solved. It is up to everyone to be aware of kids who are getting bullied in order to stop it. If students at school held the example that bullying is not at all cool it would reduce greatly considering many of them copy their friends. As it is obvious many of the kids who commit suicide are so young more help should be sent out to them in order for them to escape the torment. When a bully out of nowhere just triggers on an innocent kid and just hurts them for no good reason it’s where it all begins.
