I wanna start this essay by first define what is reading and writing is ,everyone could agree that reading is a process where the student get meanings from everything that they see around.Writing is basically your free choice of words.I was in Preschool when i first realize that i love reading and writing.I remember my mom walking to my class and me not knowing that i would be walking out with knowledge to read and write. My Preschool teacher Ms.Newman was a artistic teacher and she would express herself through her clothes.she would have colorful words on her walls that each letter in the alphabet had a picture to represent it.she would wear different colors sweaters that would have a bunch words on them and she would read to us as a class and it had me really excited to read.I instantly wanted to read anything i put my hand on!Often, I would read the cartoons comics in the newspaper every Sunday and I felt so smart reading it.In class,We would spilt into groups and talk about how we felt about the story Ms.Newman read to us.As the year progressed, we would cut out letters, magazines, and newspapers etc and put them in our journal. This is how my love for reading and writing all begin.
When we move on to writing,it was a weird experienced for me.In kindergarten i had a black and white journal i always would love to write it and decorate with a lot of colors and scribbles.I could now express myself not only through reading but writing.I can now write
As a child, reading and writing always came with craft activities or competition. In Kindergarten, we studied a letter a week, so this consisted of learning its sound, location in the alphabet, and the written form of the letter. Each letter had a craft activity which grabbed my attention because I love arts and crafts. Because it was something I was interested in, I soon began catching on to simple words which lead to bigger words, and then eventually to books. Competition for “Top Reader” was also a great way to grab the students’ attention because this caused every student to compete for a prize even if the prize was just an eraser. These activities may seem simple and small but I guarantee you that I am still thankful for them each day, because those simple activities got me involved in a world of reading and writing
I Remember that time I had that one page essay assigned back in my 5th grade English class and I thought to myself, “How on earth will I possibly write one page on something I hardly know anything about or share little to no interest on”. Well that 1 page essay is not looking so terrible now that college is here and the minimum amount of pages for most essays is up to 3 pages. Writing has been something that has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was first introduced to it in my preschool days, it wasn’t anything too insane, mostly just single words with a picture of whatever the word was above it. But for the amount of time writing has been in my life the one concept that truly defined literacy for
Some of my earliest memories of reading and writing took place in preschool. My former teacher, Mrs. Williams always made reading a fun and new experience which helped encourage us to read. I remember always being excited to read a new book as if I were embarking on a new adventure. My mother also encouraged me to read by reading to my brother and I at bedtime. She also gave us plenty of genres to choose from. Even though my dad did not reach much, my mom was very much interested in books about British crime mysteries. My brother, on the other hand, read anime’ comics and video game instruction pamphlets. Although reading has not been my strongest subject, the subject has always been part of my life.
I 've loved to read and write ever since I was taught my ABC 's for the first time. It 's been a huge part of my life in a lot of different aspects. I learned how to read when I was three years old because I went to a daycare where I was the youngest kid and the only one who couldn 't read. Reading and writing just stuck with me after that. After I started reading better than my older daycare-mates, school was ready for me to conquer. The school put me with older kids right away and I was in English class with 3rd graders when I was in kindergarten. It helped me out with making friends and I always got along with older kids better
From a young age, I have had an interest in reading and writing. When my mother found out she was pregnant with me, my sister, Kaitlyn, was four years old. Kaitlyn had just begun reading when she found out she would soon have a baby sister. My sister, eager to share her reading skills, begged my mother if she could read stories to me while I was still in the womb. Once I was born, the story-telling continued. I gravitated towards books at an early age, most likely because my sister was reading by the time I was big enough to hold a book. Reading has always been around me. Bright colors caught my attention as a child. If a book had a colorful cover, I wanted someone to read it to me. When I was three years old, I started learning how to read in my preschool class. While learning to talk, my way of telling someone I wanted or needed something was to point. My mother would tell me, “use your words”. Because my preschool teacher
Last week we wrote a blog and one of the questions was “How did you learn to read and write?” I found this question interesting because I never had really thought about the moment when I actually learned how to read and write. My mom was the first person to expose me to reading and writing. A popular tactic she did to make sure I was staying engaged was to read aloud stories and make me follow along with her. My mom would read me many different stories like Tarzan, Bambi, Aladdin, Peter Pan, Lion King, The Jungle Book, and Hercules. whatever I wanted to listen and follow along with, she would read with me. This really helped with my want to read. The books contained a lot of adventure, which made it easy as a kid to follow along with. I became to gain an imagination and then all of a sudden reading was easier.
Perhaps one of the most pressing issues faced by women in Many African countries today are the many barriers preventing them from having access to sexual health and family planning services. “The World Health Organization (WHO) defines family planning as “the ability of individuals and couples to anticipate and attain their desired number of children and the spacing and timing of their births. It is achieved through use of contraceptive methods and the treatment of involuntary infertility” (Tessema, Gizachew Assefa, 2). By examining the causes of what is preventing women in areas Africa from taking control of their sexual health, and the number of children they wish to have, possible solutions can be contrived. In Kenya for example, “20.9 percent
With reading came writing. The stories were no longer confined to the boundaries of my mind. I could write the stories I had dreamed up in my head down with words I had learned from the books that lined the library shelves. I painted my stories with words. It was then that I became an
My mother always told me that if I wanted to be a proficient writer, then I would have to first be a proficient reader. Looking backwards at a childhood full of all sorts of warm memories and events, writing was something I always wanted to excel at. I immediately think of one of the first times I was able to comprehend literature, for instance, which was when I was seven years old. My mother would read to me out of the classic Dr. Seuss books and my expression was similar to that of other children my age, in total awe at how amazing it was to listen to the words and actually understand what the words meant by identifying them with the pictures drawn in the script.
I was about four years old when I first learned to read. I remember how excited and proud I was. As a kid, I never really enjoyed reading. Most times, reading put me to sleep. It was just so boring to me. As i got older, I still never learned to enjoy reading often. However, when I had to read, I was able to get really into the books and imagined myself being right smack in the middle of everything that was happening in my book. The more I read, the bigger my vocabulary got and the more proper my grammar became. I learned to write when I was in kindergarten. The teacher was having us make a gift to give to our moms for Mother’s Day. The first words I learned to write was my name, but my first sentence was “I love you mommy” , which was what
At this point in my life, reading would definitely not make a list of my favorite things to do, but this wasn’t always the case. Some of my youngest memories involve reading, and many of these memories are enjoyable. Every night before bed my mom would read to me, and I remember begging to read just one more before she tucked me in almost every night. This is when my love for reading sparked. Throughout grade school, I continued to read frequently and never found it to be a chore; however, once middle school hit I no longer included reading as a past time or found it pleasurable. Looking back now I realize this was when English class included more forced literature, and school consisted of reading extensive pages in textbooks. Reading
Writing has always played a huge role in my life. I’ve been reading writing for as long as I can remember as I have an immense love of reading. This love would grow into a love for writing as well; I still stumble upon journals and writings from my five-year-old self about the happenings in my kindergarten class. As time would go on I would discover academic writing, and how to convey my thoughts on what was the topic of student that particular year or semester in my schooling. Later, writing would become a constant for me, and a comfort; I was known to my friends as always having a journal, and a pen on my person. I learned to write down my feelings and my thoughts, song lyrics that were in my head, reflections for the day. I learned how
I remember reading since my earliest memory. I had spent the majority of my middles school life in the library checking out books. In high school I didn’t have much of a chance to read as much as I had wished to, but I still went to the library enough for the librarians to remember my name and face out of the hundreds of other students who walked through the library doors. My junior year of high school, I had the privilege of being able to take a creative writing course. It was in this class I fostered my love of writing. It gave a scheduled time in the day to learn different styles of writing and experiment with different genres. From poetry to fiction, short stories to playwrite, I was able to express myself through my writing. Books were my source of comfort. Writing was a source of
“Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.” – Maya Angelou. Many people feel this way about music mostly musicians. Just like Maya Angelou I can tell that Dale and Sonny felt the same. Music can help you in many ways more than we know, for example music has been proven to help you relax, help you find love, reduces pain, improves your work, and music can even save someone’s life who is dealing with something in their life. Also, music can help you remember things. I remember making up songs and using songs I knew to help me elicit what I studied for a test or just understand what my teacher taught, for example, I made up a song to remember PEMDAS in my 5th grade math class. What I like about music is that it is not just one sound or one meaning, that there are many types of music and many ways to express your love for music. There are many types of music from gospel, rap, reggae, pop music, rock music, blues, orchestra, jazz, and even instrumentals which is no words just a beat and many more! I personally don’t have a favorite type of music, but I listen to gospel, R&B, and much more.”The things are difficult for me to put into words and speak about I put it into my music” Kevin gates he is a Hip Hop rapper. That quote means to me that sometimes speaking my mind is hard I can go and start writing and put all my feelings into music , and will be able to let people feel like how i feel. Music isn’t just for
Written word and reading came to me in the way oil is introduced to a cup of water, a sudden disagreement. I have never Liked reading or writing, but in 6th grade I began to truly despise it. I was always a math and science person ,but I knew could write a well versed and attention grabbing story and essay. My downfall however, was that I could never write them the right way. Being that I always have went through school each year writing wrong. The description of my 6th grade year is what conjured up my decision to change that. This is the year I buckled down, and I told myself that this will be the year I become a better reader as well as a better writer.
