My Interest In My Volunteering Program

1. The two most important things I learned from my volunteering experience are that all kids need attention and positive support. Whether they effectively seek it out or not and that kids comprehend significantly more about what is going on than they can express in words and therefore the environment provided at child care centers can have a big impact on the child’s early development. While working with the kids I thought that it was anything but difficult to pay attention to the cutest kids who were continually smiling and needing my attention. The children who were the trouble makers, and the initial few times I volunteered, these were the children who got the majority of my time. I want to work at camp because I would like to give back. I have attended MFU camp for the past 11 years and I want to give back to MFU and the experience that I had during my years at camp. I would like to make an impact on kids’ lives and help create amazing memories, just like how previous councilors have done for me. I want to help change kids’ lives and give them a week that they will not forget.

Adults and peers have described me as dependable, fair, honest, trustworthy, intelligent, empathetic, respectful, and friendly and I do my best to live by these characteristics. One of my main mottos is to treat others the way you want to be treated. I am by no means a perfect person and I try to accept help and criticism whenever it is offered in an effort to keep improving upon my character. I would love to participate in Lakeland Regional Health's Teen Volunteer Summer Program because I want the opportunity to learn more about my future career. By doing the Teen Volunteer Summer Program, I will be able to understand just how much my future Career encompass and get a heads up on what to expect. By volunteering in the summer program, I would also be gaining the amount of hours that I need to graduate high school with honors on my diploma. I hope that I am able to volunteer in this summer program to put all that I have learned in health class to good use.

There was is no interview process. However, there was a 22-page application. I was told to complete the application and return it with a copy of my driver’s license, two non-family references. Skills I have that can be utilized in this position are my able to relate to children, my keen desire to work children, my willing to learn, my enthusiasm, tact, patience and a sense of humor. Skills I wish you to use more are my problem-solving skills, my literacy and numeracy skills.

Currently, I volunteer and participate at numerous places; that include recreation centers, my current high school, public library, and etc. I commit my time to serve the community and the school with events like open house, food drives, school tours, and etc. I volunteer for different programs like lifeguard, link crew leader, tutor and etc. Throughout my high school life, I always took charge as a leader to help the community and the school with any occasion. Throughout the course of my life I have been surrounded by the same type: people who see themselves in the same farm town, going to a school close to home, and getting a safe, steady job. I, on the other hand, have always yearned for a future apart from that. My plan has always been to make a change in this world. Whether that is helping to fight the threat that is global warming, finding a solution to the clean water crisis, or simply raising money to help those in need, I do not yet know. The agency that I will be volunteering with this semester is Give Kids the World in Central Florida. Give Kids the World is a non-profit organization that assists in providing free accommodations for families and children diagnosed with health conditions that are life-threatening allowing them to carry out family vacations at the Give Kids the World Village. As a volunteer, Give Kids the World allows a variety of different ways to get involved, such as being able to work within Guest Dining, Transportation Services, Entertainment etc. Being a Health Sciences Pre-Clinical major and interested in wanting to pursue Medicine in the future, allowed me to gain a significant interest in wanting to volunteer at this agency as I have always been intrigued by willing to help and give back. Furthermore, the reason I chose this agency is that it will allow me to gain experience from a different perspective while giving me the opportunity to provide help, care, joy and hope to children and their family members. Overall, being able to participate, as a volunteer will allow me to give back by providing assistance and care in different areas that are available, enabling me to have a great chance at being able to contribute and make a difference within the community.

Service learning has given me the new opportunity experience helping others and including myself. I enjoy volunteer work because It’s a way of giving back to the community, but also I’ve become confident in public speaking. In addition, volunteer work is a great rewarding experience, and it 's also helped me develop social skills, by supporting others. The contribute can make a positive impact in many ways, Barack Obama said, “ the best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. During high school I was one of the leaders of our high school volunteering organization. I have volunteered NTFB, Texas Discovery Garden, Angel Tree for the salvation army, Race for the cure, YMCA turkey Trot, Blood Drive of 2014, the Balloon Festival, and the MLK convention. I was also the founder and the leader of the middle eastern club. I was a member of our high school student council and a member in LULAC. I was also the treasure in our high school’s choir. I worked at my high school’s admissions and testing center. I also volunteered at the GO center which helps the students apply for scholarships and FAFSA/TAFSA paper work. Volunteerism positively reflects an individual's character, showing others of their benevolence and compassion. Organizations such as Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) as a whole is very community based, meaning we partake in and organize activities that positively affect the school, its students, and the rest of the community. As President of FCCLA, I participate in numerous community service and community awareness activities. FCCLA has done numerous community projects, such as food drives, coat drives, and toiletry drives, and eventually all of these items were given to the homeless whom we have also volunteered to feed. Moreover, the numerous volunteer opportunities that I have grasped have helped me to establish what career path I want to take in the future, nursing. Doing community service helped me realize that I want to spend my life helping others, doing things that could make a sick person’s day better and help them to stay positive as they heal.
