My Simple Dreams
My name is Alexander Roman. My future is now composed of dreams that I have created throughout the years since I was young. At eight years old, I already had planned out my future: at twenty two, I would have already been working as a paleontologist, excavating skeletons of dinosaurs, in Africa, and then I would have become the first person ever riding a hover board down the hill in front of my house in Puerto Rico. I would also have become the best person I could be to make my parents and friends proud of me. Growing up has taught me that the only paleontologist that I looked up to was Dr. Alan Grant from Jurassic Park and that owing a hover board would mean that I would have to be filthy rich. However, growing up has also taught me that I could still become the outstanding person that I aspire to be. My future dreams have drastically changed as I have grown older. Now, I have become aware that sometimes it does not matter what you plan for because life will always have a different plan for you. Because, like a drop of salt water in the ocean, I walk next to life itself patiently waiting for what happens next. Even though my perspective of my future dreams has changed, I do have dreams that I strive for, each and every day. I strive for relationships that are full or love, compassion, and honesty. I strive for being proud of who I am. I strive to celebrate humanity’s uniqueness, to fight
You’re never too youthful to dream dreams and never too mature to fan into flame a smouldering dream or dare yet to dream another. Mark Twain once said; “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Have you ever sought out to change something for the better but ended up making it worse? In the novel Animal Farm, by George Orwell, animals take over a farm. The leaders of the new farm want to be nothing like humans but end up practicing many of the practices that were hated. Orwell’s story was criticised and ridiculed for its portrayal of the history of Soviet communism. The story points out what a leader should not do, and more importantly what we should not let happen. It also takes a blow at the Soviet Union, especially Joseph Stalin. In Animal Farm, the animals wanted equality through democracy but obtained it through socialism. This eventually led to communism and the destruction of the farm and it’s animals. Animal Farm shows how equality through socialism is detrimental to society through the portrayal of the Soviet Union during Stalin’s reign.
When I was six I wanted to be Hannah Montanna. When I was 12 I still dreamed of becoming a pop-star, but figured I could have a second job too – just in case. I’m seventeen now and I’ve have read Maya Angalou and Ralph Waldo Emerson; I’ve studied American history, marvled at astounding scientific discoveries, and cheered for political revolutions. I've traveled to different states and analyzed geological features for the aesthetic beauty and for the geological history. I've done many things, the logical step here would be then for me to pick; speak or forever hold my peace, but in all honesty, I don't know what I want to be. My six-year old self would say it's because I've seen too much, I think it's because I haven't seen enough. I want to
I am writing about the time I first went tubing with my best friend Gracye. It happened when I was 13 years old. I was invited for the second time to my best friend's lake house and she forced me to go on her Parent's speed boat. Before all this took place, on the way to her lake house we watched the “Teen Beach 2” movie and there was a saying in that movie it was “Gonna march to the beat; gonna do my thing”this was significant quote because i chanted it while I was tubing when I got scared. When we got to the lake house Gracye and I unloaded our things along with the stuff for her Mom’s party. We sat on her bed eating Cheez-its and Pub Mix while drinking raspberry iced tea, waiting for her Dad to take us on the lake. While
In my future, I would love to go live somewhere warm like sunny South Carolina and play golf, my main and favorite sport. I've always wanted to do something with medicine like both my parents. I aspire to be an anesthesiologist. Since so many of my family members work in the medical occupation it seems suitable. The only problem with this plan is the fondness I possess when it comes to science, my favorite subject is actually global. I think that it always makes sense and I'm able to remember anything we discuss in class. However, I am very good at overcoming difficult obstacles that life often allots and base my attitude about it to rise above the rest. That is what I would like people, especially my friends, to say about me; strength and persistence are her strong points. I am very determined to improve so my goal is to better myself in all aspects from school to
“Your dreams, what you hope for and all that, it’s not separate from your life. It grows right up out of it.” --Loyd Peregrina
I’m a high school senior from a small town in Central Washington. Since I was thirteen years old, I’ve known exactly what I want to do “when I grew up”: I want to become a professor of linguistics at a major research university. I want to research and write papers and teach. Because I have had this answer ready for so long, people started to ask me what I want to specialize in. I’d say that I wasn’t sure, but perhaps an indigenous language family in Central America, because I already spoke Spanish and had studied the culture and politics of the region. Then it struck me: what has made me who I am does not have to be what I become.
Life is unpredictable and no one could gifted with a foresight. I still remember that day when I boarded the plane, from China to America, up to eighteen hours of travel. When I step on the land of America, my life instantly changed. The exaggerated graffiti on the wall with a twisted smile looks like the one who is saying “Hi.” to me. When I go in to my “home”,mice and cockroaches are all around. The teen who stand near the door says, “Welcome to America.”
The specialist skills of the Health Visitor are crucially important in safeguarding children (HM Government, 2010). In the past decade there has been significant change in nursing and healthcare that has led to a much wider remit for those involved in working with children and subsequently child protection (Hall and Elliman, 2006; Department of Health, 2004); indeed Health Visitors are responding to a national drive to further enhance their contribution to public health (Department of Health, 2009).
Throughout grade school, I struggled with what my future would hold. I had an idea about what I wanted to achieve. For example, I know I did not want to live pay check to pay check, but I didn’t have a clue about how to achieve that. My entire life my mother taught me to work hard for what I wanted, and then I could reap the benefits later. I didn’t want to wait for later. I wanted to have my cake, and eat to. I knew I love books so maybe I could become a writer. The school Counselor suggested I take a career vocational test to determine what would work best for me.
Grass, hemp, wacky tabaccy, ganja, and many other names are what you might have heard as slang for marijuana. It is a cannabis plant that is most commonly used when the leaves are shredded and then hand rolled into cigarettes to be smoke. Many people see marijuana as a gateway drug, leading to other more hardcore drugs. Which is why it has been made illegal by the United States Federal Government in all 50 states. But some states have decided the federal government does not know what the people of their state do or do not need, so they have legalized marijuana for either just medical or recreational as well. This action by some states has lead to people wondering; does allowing a state to take action that opposes or violates federal law undermine the government’s authority? In order to reach an answer for this question we will need to look at both sides of the subject, the federal government and the states’.
Many people are already thinking about what they want their life to be like in the future. My future begins in college. I’ve been waiting to go to college since middle school. I’m interested in taking anything in the medical field such as nursing, pharmacist, medical technician, etc. I believe this will benefit me, my family, and other people because I want to take care of my family, other patients, and also myself by learning more about health science. To me, successful is happiness, and happiness is not necessarily being wealthy. My happiness is having to help people and also having a family who cares and supports me.
My future is something I often think about. Most often, the questions that arise include the common doubts of “Am I doing this right?”, or even the occasional midnight philosophical questions such as “Why are we here?”, and so on. For the purpose of this essay, I will focus on the factors that have allowed me to reach this point in my life and how these factors influenced and continue to influence me, in order to provide me with a visualization of my future.
When I was 12 years old, people would always ask me what I wanted to be when I grow up and my answer was always the same; I want to be a professional football player. I was convinced at that age that was what I wanted to be so I trained extremely hard to make that dream come true. I ran extra after practice and worked on speed and agility drills at home to hone my skills. However, when I entered high school, my dream had changed. I no longer enjoyed football and I worried about what I was going to do with the rest of my life. I have always been fascinated with technology and have been curious as to how they function so in my sophomore year of high school, I finally decided that I wanted to be a computer engineer and this time, I will do whatever it takes to make this dream come true.
