I enjoyed my filed placement experience! The only concern that I have is the number of hours I have completed. This was a unique experience for me as SPARC hours are Monday through Friday 9 am to 1 pm. I only worked there 4 days per week. In having to complete 250 hours to pass the term I am worried about this. In addition, we had 2 days off for weather related reasons and one full week off due to the spring break for SPARC. SPARC is a unique agency as I have never heard of another agency that provides the services SPARC provides. In working with this population, I feel I developed a lot of skills in the area of cultural competency. Working with disabled adults helped me to become aware of what I was thinking, interventions that worked

For two years I worked as a camp counselor for the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA). In this time, I have worked day camps, inclusion camps, social program,s and even an overnight camp for children, teens, and adults with special needs. My responsibilities were to plan crafts and activities that were inclusive to the various needs and abilities of the campers. Most of all, being a camp counselor meant creating a safe and fun environment for each
Social service agencies have played in intricate role in our society for many years. They are rooted in the values of charity work, preventing poverty, inequality, and injustice. Social service agencies aim is to maintain the national declaration on Human Rights by having different agencies in the community that is tailored for the specific needs and skills for society. Though, they are many the agency in which I found to be empowering, and supportive that places clients at the center is HASC Center, located at 5601 1st avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11220. This agency provides a place for a person who is living with mental and behavioral challenges at this place they will be able to express themselves using verbal and non-verbal clues. This agency

As a Program Director working with this population of people my focus is for physical, social and psychological integration. However, for this to materialize it is essential that those that provide the direct and indirect care are properly trained. Without the wherewithal to know yourself and continually having a reflective practice incorporated in human service routine, it is quite easy to be part of the
The complexity of the case meant I had to draw on a large range of social work skills to facilitate my engagement with the service user and carers and to complete my recommendations for panel. My Skills strongly developed throughout the process of assessing the service user and carers and they were acknowledged by my practice assessor.
I was assigned to the African American diverse group. My group chose Disability and Solution Focus as our two interventions. The group members in my group included Narsa, Kelvin, Rehan, Jennie, Danna, and myself. Our project was to research depression in African American community and how solution focused therapy can apply to eight cross-cultural curative factors to help African American individuals.

As a Social Worker, I have had the opportunity to work with children and families from diverse socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. My time in my internship has exposed me too many direct social work practice procedures and techniques. I have gotten opportunities to write grants, practice ethically/professionally, and learn how to use community resources. During my time at the BSW program, I have learned the process of assessment and how it is important in identifying the challenges that exist in the clients’ environment and how to alleviate these challenges. My past employment has helped me understand the qualities of leadership and professionalism.
My interest in the PACT program stems from wanting to gain more experience working with an older population of clients. After graduation from Temple this spring I intend to pursue a doctorate of Audiology. As a field that is undeniably involved in treating and working with a diverse base of clients, I feel it is important to jump at any opportunity to work with individuals with experiences and difficulties that are different than what I have previously encountered. So far in my life, my work experiences have revolved around interacting with children. My recent experience has been working as a camp counselor for children with developmental disabilities. This experience has taught me how to be patient and understanding when working with individuals
Through the certification course, I will be able to understand how historical, cultural, and social issues impact the lives of people living with developmental disabilities and will help in differentiating different forms of disabilities especially neurodevelopmental ones. I will also be able to develop skills of working in an interdisciplinary team, working with families, as well as the skill of working with communities. Training and certification will also ensure that I understand family centered services, as well as the cultural competencies needed to address specific
This has provided me with an added insight into what interventions may be beneficial when working with clients. My aptitude for ¨thinking outside the box¨ has facilitated effective problem solving in situations that had no single or clear-cut solution. I hope to enhance this attribute during my time in field placement by refining my critical thinking skills and increasing my knowledge of community resources, so that I can gain a strengthened awareness of how to best advocate for and support clients. My ability to integrate personal goals, values, culture and socioeconomic background into treatment planning and in the treatment process has allowed me to develop realistic and attainable goals that are relevant to each individual. This strength stems from the steadfast belief that cultural relevance is essential to provide effective services. My social work experience has refined my organization and planning skills and I have fine-tuned my ability to manage a chaotic schedule. When I have encountered challenges in the field, I have overcome them by seeking supervision and consulting with more experienced colleagues. I also dedicate extra time to learning about cultures, concepts, and practices that I may have a difficult time understanding or am not familiar with. A final strength I believe will be an asset when working as a professional social worker is my dedication to the social work mission and
In order to deliver effective services it is necessary that professionals are able to work with culturally diverse populations successfully. Social workers must commit themselves to the profession’s enhancement and to their own professional growth in career long learning (National Association of Social Workers, 2010).
